2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Complete In-depth Review & Buying Guide

American car market has seen a lot of changes, primarily from homebred Auto-manufacturers like GM and Ford. A lot of passenger cars will be ending production soon, with all but truck selling strong in the market. Ford's strategy of becoming a 'mobility company' will see them focusing on their F-series trucks and the lovely Mustang only. As such the 2019 Ford F-150 is probably the most significant vehicle for Ford at the moment.

Overall Rating

Ford F-150 is one of the best trucks available in the market currently. The Super Cab has plenty of variants too, like the four engine options and two bed sizes. There are three V6s and a V8 motors to choose from, along with a 5-and-a-half-feet standard box and an 8-feet Long Box. Apart from the above, you also get different trims on each variant, which means you have an option for every pocket. You get a lot of space and comfort along with significant road presence as well.

The XLT trim is the most value for money proportion, but if you have a little money to spare, get the Lariat trim. If gets better engine options, and even a diesel too! If you’d like to consider a diesel as well, read our expert review for 2019 Ford F-150 Diesel as well.

2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Engine

8.6/10

The F-150 offers a pair of twin-turbo V-6 engines in the quest for V-8 power with better-than-V-8 fuel economy. -Car and Driver

Engine and Transmission

The default engine on the Ford F-150 is the rather modest 3.3-liter V6 motor, capable of producing 290 horsepower, and more importantly, 265 pound-feet of torque. All this grunt is harnessed via an electronic 6-Speed Transmission, with Tow/Haul and Sport Modes for easier driving. The engine pulls neatly from a standstill in a very calm fashion but struggles to get to highway speeds.

The V8 is much more powerful, rated at 395 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The smallest engine on the 2019 F-150 is the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6, which is, rather surprisingly, more powerful than the 3.3 V6, producing 325 horsepower and 400 lb.-ft. of torque. There is an additional EcoBoost engine too, a 3.5 V6, with 395 Horses and a massive 470 pound-feet of torque. These optional engines get a 10-speed auto, with tow/haul mode, snow/wet mode, EcoSelect mode, and a Sport mode as well.

Acceleration

When it comes to rapid acceleration, trucks don't fare as well as smaller, nimbler cars. Even with the V8, you won't see the needle rise too fast in the speedo. Still, the Ford isn't a slouch either. Even in its least powerful avatar, the F-150 does a 0 to 60 mph run in 7 seconds, which is quite fine for a vehicle of these dimensions.

The fastest truck in the segment is the Chevy Silverado 1500 which completes the 0-60 mph run in 5.3 seconds. Second in line is the Toyota Tundra which completes the same run in 6.5 seconds.

Ride and Handling

The 2019 Ford F-150 is an extremely potent handler, much better than bulk should allow. Sure, there is some body roll and ride-quality does turn a little bouncy at speed, but this truck has everything under control. The F-150 can carry plenty of cornering speed into a corner and still come out alive on the other side. Even when compared to the rivals, the Ford comes out on top as the best handling truck in its segment.

Braking

Just like everything else on the F-150, the brakes are quite big as well. The front wheels sport a set of 13.8-inch rotors, and the rear has a pair of 13.7-inch rotors. The pedal feel is fine, neither too spongy nor too hard, with just the right length of travel.

2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Fuel Economy

This large truck sure does burn a lot of oil. The fuel economy numbers on the 3.3L V6 Ford-150 make for a combined rating of 25 MPG, which is fine for the size. The EcoBoost engines are surely the best bet if you're looking for a great gas mileage.

2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Interior

8.6/10

There's a lot to like about the F-150. All seats provide both appropriate support and all-day comfort, and the climate control system is a model of effectiveness. Plus the cabin environment is quiet and calm. -Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

The F-150 has a lot of space on the inside, courtesy its large dimensions. People in the front have much more space than they would ever need, while the rear seats are just a slight squeeze. The seats are extremely comfortable, and not only does the Ford offer a lot of space, but a lot of equipment as well. You can have things like Pre-Collision Assist, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System as standard.

Ingress into the back requires you to fold the front seats down. There are plenty of cubby holes around as well, and the doors have bottle holding spaces too. Overall, the cabin is lovely to be in. You also get interior lighting, and lighting for the bed behind as well, which are some neat practical touches.

While the onboard Wi-Fi system has been replaced, the Infotainment system hasn't. You'll find the Sync system still on duty in this vehicle, but only if you tick the box. If you wish for an update, you can have Sync 3 system, which is much better. The touch response time would have certainly been better but the overall system is really good to use.

2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Exterior

There's plenty of storage space in the F-150. It's a pickup, after all, so you can carry a couch as easily as a ham sandwich. -Car and Driver

Dimensions and Weight

This full-sized truck has had the same body for a few years now, which means the dimensions have remained identical for quite a few years. The Standard Box (6 and a half feet) variant is well over 230 inches long, while the Long Box (8 feet) variant is even longer, at a healthy 250 inches.

Weight may have altered a bit though, but not enough to be noticeable under practical situations, mainly due to the updated engines and transmission. Ford F-150 weighs in at 4069 pounds for the lightest model (LX Standard box with 3.3 V6).

Design and styling

The Ford F-series has always been a looker, even back in the 50s. Fast forward a few decades, and we have ourselves the modern iteration of this vehicle, in its glorious thirteenth generation. It's a big, bulky looking pick-up with a massive front grille, two shapely dual headlights on each side of the face. The vehicle gets 17-inch steel wheels as standard, with 20-inch machined alloys as an option. You also get LED DRLs and Chrome front grille on the equipment list by default.

2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Safety

2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Competition

Ford F-150 vs Nissan Titan

The Nissan Titan is a full-sized heavy-duty truck from the oriental car makers. The car certainly falls shorts on looks especially when compared to the rivals like the F-150. However, the car features tried and tested rugged V8 engines that are known for their bomb proof reliability and the base price even with options is fairly considerate.

The Nissan Titan is a capable vehicle but it still falls short of the Ford F-150 as a truck overall.

Ford F-150 vs Chevy Silverado

The Chevy Silverado is one of the more traditional looking trucks amongst the rivals. The vehicle features a rock solid and sturdy built. The cabin is nice to look at and even comfortable for the passengers.

But, the Ford F-150 is certainly the more modern vehicle both inside and outside while the Silverado is a more traditional vehicle.

Ford F-150 vs Toyota Tundra

The Toyota Tundra is one most reliable truck out there in the market. The interior quality on the truck is far superior than a lot of trucks in the segment. Even when it comes to the looks dept. The Toyota looks fairly modern and pleasing to the eye from all the angles.

The Tundra still certainly falls short of the pedigree of the Ford F-150 in terms every possible angle there is.

2019 Ford F-150 SuperCab Final Verdict

The 2019 Ford F-150 is one of the top trucks currently on sale on American soil, and is home-bred too. It's an extremely capable truck, the best in the class actually, owing to its long list of features, a spacious and comfortable cabin, mighty engines, and last but not least, capturing looks.
