The new Ford F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab will be available in three trims with a 6.2Lv8 and 6-speed automatic transmission coming in as the standard drivetrain option. You also have an option to go for a bigger 7.2L V8 gasoline engine or a 6.7L Turbo diesel engine at an additional cost. All models will come in the rear-wheel-drive configuration as standard and all-wheel-drive is a $3,000 option. The base price goes from just under 40 grand and at this price, will be competing against the likes of the GMC Sierra 2500HD, Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, and the Ram 2500.

2021 Ford F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab Features

The 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab will be primarily available in three trims, namely XL, XLT, and Lariat. The base prices would start from around $39,230 while the fully-loaded all-wheel-drive truck would cost you over $53,195. Every trim gets a similar 6.6L V8 gasoline engine as standard coupled to a 6-speed automatic transmission. You get an optional 7.2L V8 gasoline engine or a 6.7L Turbo diesel engine on the list and these would come with a 10-speed automatic transmission. The former is a $2045 option while the diesel engine adds a whopping $ 10,495 to the base price. Also, AWD is a $3,000 odd option on every trim as the standard truck comes in as rear-wheel-drive only.

As for the features on offer, the base 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab only offers basic equipment and comes about itself as a proper work truck. Going for the XLT trim brings in a lot of features including an updated 8-inch touchscreen, bigger driver information center, power tailgate, a bunch of exterior design upgrades, cruise control, and most importantly the inclusion of some advanced driver assistance tech. The top-end trim does bring in luxury features like leather upholstery, bigger infotainment, dual-zone climate control, and a premium audio system, but that would bring about a considerable jump on base pricing. Which trim should you buy?

For those who are looking for a truck that doubles up as a personal mobility machine, the base XL truck would turn out to be a bit too barebones. Our choice would be to go for the XLT trim as it brings in a lot more convenience features including a full-fledged media system and most importantly driver assistance system that includes blind-spot warning, cross-traffic alert, and emergency braking support. There is always an option to go for the Lariat trim but the jump in the base price is a bit too high and the mid-trim is the one that packs in the best value.

2021 Ford F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab Engine and Performance

The2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab sports a 6.2L V8 that is good for 385 hp and 430lb-ft of torque. The figure is pretty decent and with one of the lowest curb weights in its class, it sprints to 60 mph in around 8.5 seconds. The quarter-mile time comes in under 15 seconds and has claimed a top speed of around 95 mph. There is a lot of punch from the engine and there was no instance where we thought this truck needed a better engine. It gains speed rapidly and maintains highway speeds rather effortlessly.

 You always have an option to go for the $2,045 upgrade, which brings in the 7.2 L V8. This engine is rated at 430hp and could bring down the 0-60 sprints under 8 seconds. If that isn’t enough, the 475hp Power Stroke turbo diesel engine should be the one for you, and the boatloads of torque it has are perfect for any kind of job. While the gasoline V8s are rated at a max towing capacity of around 14,000 pounds, the turbo-diesel variant can haul more than 15,200 pounds.

The GM twins manage to perform best here with the base engine options posting a 0-60 run in just 7.5 seconds which is almost a second quicker than the rest of the competition. Even though the RAM 2500 is the most powerful truck here, the crude 6-speed automatic it houses bogs the whole truck down making it the slowest of the bunch. The 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab, being the least powerful truck here, does fall to second place when it comes to outright performance. That said, with the bigger engine on offer, these results could vary drastically.

2021 F-250 SuperDuty SuperCab handle?

 Like every other heavy-duty truck out there, the2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab is not that big of a handler. Even though the steering is light and easy to operate, you always have the sense of rolling around in something that is substantial. This is especially noticeable in tight city streets and in traffic, where you have to be extra careful of the outboard dimensions. This added size also makes it a handful to maneuver and pretty much impossible to park on regular spots.

 Once you hit the highways with the 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab, things get much better. The ride feels surprisingly poised and there is an inherent sense of stability thanks to all that weight. That said, this is definitely not a truck to have fun with and if you do so, the ladder-on-frame chassis does start to feel a bit unnerving with its unbridled body roll. It also doubles up as an off-roader, but with the lowest ground clearance in the segment, you most definitely need a spotter for the same.

The2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab comes with 14.3-inch rotors at the front and 15.4-inch rotors at the back, which is one of the biggest we have measured in this segment. This along with the lowest curb weight in its class, makes it stop from 60mph in about 130 feet, which is respectable for a truck of this size. The brakes themselves are not the most feedback-rich unit out there, but they drop anchors quite well. Ford has also dropped in an anti-lock system on all four wheels with basic traction control software which takes care of you no matter what the drive conditions are.

The2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab, on getting the biggest hardware and being the lightest of the bunch, manages to stop the quickest, registering just 130 feet from the point of breaking. The GMC Sierra 2500 does a similarly impressive 134 feet stop despite the higher curb weight. The Silverado 2500 should also manage similar numbers given they share the same hardware and weigh almost the same. The RAM 2500 meanwhile, takes the most distance, taking almost 140 feet to come to a complete halt.

We do not have any official data on the fuel economy figures of the 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab as the EPA does not test heavy-duty vehicles. But based on our tests and customer feedback, we have come up with a rough number on what it could deliver. With the base 6.2L V8, the 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab is good for around 13.5mpg of combined efficiency while the highway efficiency may go as high as 16 mpg. With a 34 gallon tank, you are looking at a highway range of about 544 miles while a combined driving cycle will limit you to 459 miles.

The 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab, being the one here with the least displacement and lowest output, manages to eke out the best efficiency figures in this list. The RAM 2500, despite churning out the most power, manages an average of 15.4 mpg on the highways while the GM twins fall to the back of the pack, returning 15 mpg each. The smaller tank on the GMC does compromise its range, but the GM twins hit back with their class-biggest 36-gallon fuel tank to extract ranges similar to the Ford F-250.

The2021 Ford F-250 does offer a rather spacious cabin even in the SuperCab format. The vinyl front seats feel nice and 66.7-inches of shoulder room is enough to fit anyone of any size. That said, the front seats come with manual adjustment as standard and only gets power-adjustability in the top trim. The second-row bench also offers class-leading 65.6-inches shoulder room and decent amounts of legroom. The cargo bay is also decently large and measures 65.4 cu-ft.

Coming to the equipment on the inside, the base 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab comes more or less bare-bones as it primarily is meant to be a work truck. Opting for the subsequent trim does bring in a lot of features including a big 8-inch infotainment system, advanced driver info screen, and driver assistance safety tech. Luxury features like leather-appointed power-adjustable seats, premium audio system, and dual-zone climate control unit are all reserved for the top-end trim.

The 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab is one of the better-looking heavy-duty trucks out there. Drawing inspiration from the latest generation of F-150 trucks, it blends in a sporty and sophisticated look, despite the grand proportions. There is a whole lot going on the front of the truck, but somehow it manages to stay without offending anyone. The 17-inch wheels are a bit too small to the overall sizable proportions, but there is always an option for going with a higher size.

The standard truck will come with halogen exterior lighting all around. The headlamps are automatic in function and also get high beam assist. Chrome front and rear bumpers only come in as standard fitment from the XLT trim and so is the power tailgate feature. Heated mirrors are also an option only available from the mid-trim. All trims do get a standard bed step for this year though.

The GMC twins are the biggest trucks when it comes to dimension and offers the best room both inside the cabin and on the cargo bay. They also offer the best ground clearance aiding in better off-road performance. The F-250 does come close in cabin dimensions but does fall short when it comes to the wheelbase. It also is the lightest one in this comparison. The RAM 2500 has similar dimensions as the F-250 but weighs more and the crew cab arrangement causes it to lose when it comes to cargo capacity. That said, for the extra money it packs in a more powerful engine while bringing in a noticeably more opulent and capacious cabin. The GMC also has the best cabin room and also offers better cargo capacity than the Ford as well. The only thing that Ford does better is with safety equipment and fuel economy while the GMC compensated for the latter with a bigger fuel tank. The Ford might be the king of regular-sized trucks, but here, we have to go with the 2021 GMC Sierra 2500 HD.

Both trucks are identically priced when it comes to the base trim. While the Ford offers better fuel economy and reliability, the Chevrolet Silverado hit backs with its lavish cabin and expansive cargo bed. The higher ground clearance also makes the Chevy deal better with broken roads. But if you plan on picking a higher trim, the Ford just makes the better sense as it offers a whole lot more equipment, most importantly driver assistance systems, something which the Silverado 2500 completely misses out on. So, opting for the best work truck from these two completely relies on personal preference but if you plan on going up a trim, the Ford F-250 is just plain better.

Dodge offers the best value proposition with its 2021 RAM 2500 range of trucks with low starting prices and boasting the most powerful base engine options in this segment. That said, the crude automatic transmission and the heavy curb weight does cause it to fall behind the F-250 despite the considerable bump in power. This added power does cost it in the fuel economy numbers and the tiny 31-gallon tank is no help either. Also, the Dodge is only available as a 4-door cab, you would be compromising a lot on the cargo area on the standard configuration as well. So, we have to go with the Ford f-250 on this one.

With multiple engines and transmission on offer, there is definitely a trim for everybody and with starting prices on the lower spectrum, the 2021 Ford F-250 SuperCab is a desirable mid-level heavy-duty truck.
