The Base SE Trim now comes loaded with a lot of features as compared to last year’s “S” trim. We specially like the addition of Torque Vectoring Assist that adds to the driving dynamics of the Sporty Fiesta.

We Recommend

The ST Line Trim adds features like Aluminum Pedals, Aluminum Wheels and a superb infotainment system and which is why, we feel that it is the Trim to go for.

2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Engine and Performance

6.3/10
Its 120-horsepower rating is average for the class, and although this isn't a necessarily brisk engine, its smooth power delivery makes it enjoyable to drive- MSN.com

Engine and Transmission

Ford offered the Fiesta initially with 2 set of engine options namely a 3 Cylinder Turbo and a naturally aspirated 1.6L motor. The former motor didn’t prove to be as popular among the masses due to its pricing matching some other bigger cars.

The 1.6L Inline 4 Cylinder is no slouch though. It offers 120HP and 112lbs-ft of Torque, which is similar to other Cars of the segment. The Engine is very smooth in operation and has enough left in store to wave through City Traffic.

The Transmission duties are handled by a Slick Shifting and Superb 5 Speed Manual Gearbox, This is probably the Best Performing Transmission in this comparison as the Gear Shifts are Precise and engaging to shift gears through.

For those looking for a more Hassle Free driving experience, Ford offers a Dual Clutch Transmission as an option on both the trims for an additional $1,000.

Acceleration

The Heft of the Fiesta and the dated 1.6L inline 4 Engine of the 2019 Fiesta doesn’t help its cause in its pursuit of being one of the fastest accelerating hatchbacks in the segment.

Performance Aficionados however have the option of moving to the Fiesta ST as it offers great acceleration from a very potent motor.

The Nissan Versa Note is the Slowest of this lot because of its underpowered motor. The Ford ranks second worst in the 0-60 run due to its hefty weight and Engine while the Chevy Sonic and the Honda Fit lead the pack.

Ride and Handling

One of the Highlights and the Top Selling Point of the Fiesta has to be its Handling. The new Generation of the Fiesta was developed in Europe and hence the Handling exudes Typical European Flair. The Steering is very responsive and reacts to driver inputs faster than any other car in this comparison while the Chassis keeps the Body stable during tight turns.

With a Stiff Tuned Suspension, the Fiesta doesn’t feel as Comfortable to ride in Cities. Speed Humps and potholes can be felt at speeds over 25mph and may become uncomfortable at higher speeds.

Braking

The Braking Performance of the Fiesta is similar to the other Cars in this comparison. They offer a decent bite and tend to perform fine in day to day use.

Under heavy braking conditions, there may be a bit of Nose Dive but is not unsettling in any circumstance with the brakes ensuring the Car stopping at the right moment.

While we can’t comment on the Braking Distance of the Fiesta for now, we do feel it will be similar to the Rio hatchback as the fiesta has some heft with it.

2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Fuel Economy

6.0/10

The Fuel Economy from the 2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback ranks among the top half of the segment. The Fiesta however could have done better if it wasn’t so heavy, which tends to reduce the MPG Figure.

“The Fiesta has a few touches here and there that let you know Ford is trying to make you feel special” –Edmunds.com

Ergonomics and Comfort

The Fiesta offers Seating Space for 5 Adults but in reality, things are a bit different. The Front Head Room, Leg Room and Shoulder Room will be decent for most passengers. Things however get a bit dodgy when we get to the back.

The Rear Seating area in theory can seat 3 Adults but in reality, it should be best left for Short Adults or Children. The Headroom isn’t great and taller riders may find their Head touching the Roof more often

The Rear Shoulder Room isn’t the best in Class as well and the dark interiors add to the Claustrophobic feeling inside the Hatch.

The Seating Materials aren’t of the best Quality as well and the Cushioning of the Seats could have been better. The Windows don’t fully roll down and this adds to the feeling of lack of space inside the cabin.

Infotainment

One of the Strong points of the 2019 Ford Fiesta Hatch is its Infotainment System. The SYNC Infotainment system from Ford is one of the most intuitive to use and learn.

Ford Engineers have spent a lot of time in enhancing the overall experience of the system and it shows. The Layout is plain and simple with the main display showing the various connectivity options like Sirius XM, Phone Connectivity via Apple Car Play or Android Auto, Bluetooth and more.

The Ford MyKey allows customers to put a limit on the maximum speed and volume of the Music you are playing.

Interior Features

The Ford Fiesta has a good set of Interior Features which are very intuitive and easy to use. Some of those include

  • Ford MyKey
  • 12V Front and Rear power point
  • Cruise Control
  • Ambient Lighting
  • 5” touchscreen infotainment system
  • USB, Bluetooth and AUX connectivity
  • Front Console Center Armrest
  • Rear Seat Heat Ducts
  • Multifunction Message Center with LCD Screen
  • 60/40 Split Folding Rear Seats
  • 4 Way Manual Adjust driver seat and 2 way manual adjust passenger seat

Cargo Capacity

Ford has worked on improving the Cargo Space of the Fiesta. The 2019 Fiesta has a 14.9cu ft Cargo Capacity on the SE and 10.1cu ft. on the ST Line.

The Loading Bay is wider than last year and allows for easier access in the Trunk of the Hatchback.

2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Exterior

4.0/10
Shoppers are probably not drawn into showrooms for the 2019 Ford Fiesta’s styling. The 2019 Fiesta hatchback has some nice curves- TheCarConnection.com

Design

Ford has continued with its Aston Martin inspired design for the Front Portion of the exteriors of the 2019 Fiesta Hatchback (Ford owned Aston in the 90’s with Volvo under a group called the Premier Automotive Group).

There is a generous use of Chrome in the Front grill of the Fiesta while the ST Line Trim and upwards gets a Dark Gloss Treatment on the Grill, Headlamps and on the rear view mirrors.

There are Sharp line running along the side of the hatch and on the bonnet.

The ST Line Trim gets Black Colored Rear Spoil and Alloys while the SE has body colored External Mirrors and Spoilers.

Exterior Dimensions

Seeing from the Outside, the 2019 Ford Fiesta hatchback does look pretty compact in size. The actual dimensions suggest the same fact the Height and Width of the Fiesta is smaller as compared to some of the other rivals.

Exterior Features

The 2019 Ford Fiesta has a decent set of Exterior Features, which differentiates it from the rest of the compact hatchbacks. Some of those features include

  • Cap Less Fuel Filter
  • Rear Windshield Wiper
  • Rear Deck lid Spoiler
  • Solar Tinted Glass
  • Keyless Entry
  • Twin Chamber Quad Beam Halogen Headlamps with Black Surround Bezel

2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Safety

2.0/10

The 2019 Ford Fiesta offers most of the Safety Features that other Cars in the segment offer. You have the usual suspects like Anti-Lock Braking systems with Electronic Brake force Distribution as Standard. You also get Remote Keyless Entry and a Securi Lock Passive Anti-Theft System has standard.

The other safety features include

  • Tire Pressure monitoring system
  • Rear View camera
  • SOS Post Crash Alert System
  • Side Curtain, Driver Knee and Front Airbags with 7 other Airbags
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Torque vectoring

2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Competition

Ford Fiesta Hatchback vs Kia Rio Hatchback

The Kia Rio is one of the most affordable options in the compact hatchback space. It offers higher number of standard features as compared to the Ford and better performance as well. The Ford however matched the Kia in terms of overall Fuel Average but outruns the Kia in overall range offered. The Kia also can’t match the handling that the Ford offers. Overall, we feel that at a difference of $200, the Ford offers much better proposition for Driving Enthusiasts.

Ford Fiesta Hatchback vs Honda Fit Hatchback

The Honda Fit has been one of the best sellers in the compact hatchback because of its powerful engine and its sheer practicality. The Fit continues to follow Honda’s famed “Man Maximum Machine Minimum” philosophy by providing acres of room inside the Cabin and a lot of Practical Storage spaces. The Ford Fiesta’s handling and Driving Dynamics however can’t be matched by the Honda, although it’s not mundane in any way.

Ford Fiesta Hatchback vs Chevrolet Sonic Hatchback

The Chevrolet offers the highest performance in this comparison with the Power and Torque Figures of the Ford falling pale in comparison. The Sonic’s 19.1cu ft. Cargo Capacity puts the Ford’s 14.1cu ft. (SE) of Storage to shame. The Ford however offers a far better MPG figure and Interior Space. The Ford also offers an engaging driving experience as compared to the Chevrolet’s boring drive.

2019 Ford Fiesta Hatchback Final Verdict

The 2019 Ford Fiesta has addressed some of the issues that the 2018 version presented. The Base Variant offers a higher level of Standard Features and the Cargo Capacity has been improved. The Interiors of the Ford still aren’t the best in terms of Space and roominess. However, what the Ford does offer is a Superb Infotainment System that has to be one of the best in class in terms of Usability.

In conclusion, if space isn’t your top priority and looking for a compact hatchback that does fine in completing daily errands while making that drive super fun and exciting, then there is no hatchback better than the 2019 Ford Fiesta.
