Be it the Recaro leather-trimmed seats or the ST badge on the gear-lever, the designers paid attention to even the smallest of the details. Chilly days won't be a problem, thanks to the heated front seats and steering wheel.

Engine and Transmission

Ford carries a performance packed engine at a relatively low cost when compared to the rivals. The 4-cylinder 2.0 L engine is economical and yet powerful enough (252hp) to deliver an ostentatious driving experience. The standard drivetrain is FWD and transmission is 6-speed manual. The company doesn’t give an option of automatic transmission or AWD.

Many would like the sound of revving up the Ford Focus ST. When it comes to performance, the car has a powerful acceleration. There’s not much difference in acceleration compared to competitors with the only exception being Honda Civic Type R which takes 1.2 seconds less than the ST to reach the 60-mph mark.

2018 Ford Focus ST Competition

Ford Focus ST Vs Volkswagen Golf GTI (S)

The 2018 Ford Focus ST has an edge over the Golf GTI (S) when it comes to aesthetics and interiors. The Volkswagen has an inferior engine (220 hp and 258 lb-ft). However, the Golf has slightly better acceleration and braking. But considering the fact that the Focus ST is a little cheaper and more appealing to the eye, we would recommend going with the Ford Focus ST.

Ford Focus ST Vs Mini Hardtop 2 Door JCW

The acceleration and braking figures of the Hardtop are almost similar to the Focus ST but the engine of the former is less powerful (228 hp). The biggest disappointment of the Hardtop 2 Door JCW is the tiny boot space of 8.7 ft cube which the Focus ST dwarfs easily. Further, the hardtop costs $6630 more than the Focus ST. So, it’s a no-brainer that Focus ST is the right option.

Ford Focus ST Vs Honda Civic Type R

Aesthetically, Honda gives a tough fight to the Focus ST but when it comes to power and performance, the Civic leaves the Focus ST far behind. Even after running on a more powerful engine, there is almost no difference in the fuel economy of both these cars. The only drawback of the Civic Type R is that it’s $8930 costlier than the Focus ST. So, if you can afford to shed more money for better performance, Honda Civic Type R is the best car in this segment.

2018 Ford Focus ST Final Verdict

The four-door hatchback is totally a value-for-money ride. It’s the cheapest in its segment and still gives a tight competition in terms of performance and handling. It’s loaded with advanced features which when combined with the athletic handling, sporty exteriors and power packed engine makes it literally one of the best car you can buy at this price. The car hasn’t gone through any changes since last year, so, upgrading is totally unnecessary. We’d recommend you to go with the ST2 or the ST3 package which comes with the convenient and advanced SYNC 3 technology and many other additional features.
