Years later, when Ford had finally established itself across the globe, it decided to celebrate this success by launching a bigger, road-legal, and occupant-friendly version of the GT40 to simply name it the Ford GT, revealing the first generation of this smooth operator in 2005.The 2020 Ford GT is the second generation that was introduced in the 2015 North American international auto show. The Ford GT has the best top speed of all and stands the second-best performer when put up with all other V8 and V10s. The McLaren GT and Lambo Huracan are way cheaper and have nearly the same power but not as much torque as the American counterpart. Clearly, the Ferrari 488 Pista takes the spot with the best performance and engine specs but it has an engine of the same size as that of the McLaren’s 4.0L. The GT has been a performer and it has a competitive testament and history to its name, which makes its price soaring like anything.

How does the 2020 Ford GT ride and handle?

The new Ford GT is basically a carbon-fiber tub surrounded by an aluminum alloy subframe and is incredibly light. The upcoming model is equipped with independent multi-link arms on all four wheels that are supported by an adaptive air suspension making it a decently smooth sportscar over small irregularities, however, hard and sudden impacts are not fully dampened.

The American-crafter coupe uses the same mechanism as any other car in the market but has a hydraulically actuated power steering, a smoother and more accurate method of steering actuation which is all that is needed in this half-a-million-dollar race car. The 2020 Ford GT has a 40-feet turning circle diameter which is quite enough for its wheelbase.

With all of that mighty power always pushing the mid-engined coupe to its fullest, there should be an equally brilliant braking system to bring things back under control. To do this, Ford has partnered with Brembo and installed a specialized and advanced braking system to make the GT a road-legal model. This makes the sports-coupe stop from 70 MPH to a standstill in just 145 feet.

The 3,000-lb sportscar is installed with huge carbon-ceramic disc brakes with the front rotors measuring 15.5-inches while the rear wheels have 14.1-inch rotors each. These furiously rotating discs are slammed upon by the 6-piston aluminum calipers in the front while the work at the rear is done by a pair of 4-piston calipers.

The McLaren and Lamborghini weigh almost 300-lb more which narrates their slower performance. Both of these cars are equipped with smaller brake rotors, however, Ford and Ferrari have opted for much larger ones. With the best MPG and one of the biggest fuel tanks, Mclaren is the most practical choice. The Ferrari is not way behind and can be given a preference over the former for its midway approach in its economy and power performance curve. But if one will give it a thought, spending more than $500,000 will hardly make the owner think about spending a bit more irrespective of finance with the Ford GT. Therefore, this is hardly a concern in this segment but what’s wrong with getting that extra so-called saving. 

2020 Ford GT Interior

As said before, the GT is made to perform with its track-focused build approach and not to impress with beautiful interiors like most other cars in the class. Having said that, the Ford GT has a fantastic interior with the cabin fully covered in Alcantara with dark metal inserts. On the flip side, the coupe has poor cargo capacity which hardly impacts the image.

Starting with the dashboard design which looks modern and carries the aggressive styling on the inside. There are limited buttons altogether and AC vents are only spotted on the doors and nowhere on the dashboard. The steering wheel is extraordinary as wrapped in more of that Alcantara and looks really awesome with those metal-finished paddle shifters. Moreover, the two seats are made out of carbon fiber which reduces weight furthermore and is wrapped in Alcantara with ribbed Aunde Canelado cloth inserts and GT-embossed head restraints.

Now there is no real competitor here because the Ford GT is the only car with known dimensions, although it has the least cargo space of all. The McLaren GT can fit in quite a lot of stuff for a class like this whereas the other two have also hardly given any consideration in this department. The driver posturing in all of these is quite a low-leaning one that’s because of the sloping roofline. The lower height tends to take up the comfort dimension a bit out of the scope. Ahead of the steering column, the bright and colorful display has good visibility and is customized to match different drive modes, bringing revs and gears more into focus for their performance modes. Now, this is what the car is all about, the holiest exterior design ever made by Ford is the GT. The first generation was all about power and weight balance but soon after 2016, Ford came up with a tear-drop-shaped styling which became one of the most technically strong and efficient ones. The 2020 Ford GT is not much different and has a drag coefficient of 0.388 which is an insane number.

On the front are aggressive-looking full-LED projector headlights with DRLs and GT-badging inside the housing. The front bumper has a fully functional vent that runs all the way up to the hood, gluing the front end to the ground. Moving over to the side, the cabin area is smoothly curved out whereas there are strong character lines all over the side along with 20-inch black-out wheels and the marvelously styled scissor doors put together are a breath-taking view to look at.

While both the cars are highly attractive to look at, Ford has a more functional and character-specific exterior styling. The McLaren is more compact and fuel-efficient than the Ford, however, it is not as fast as the American-made two-door coupe.

On the other hand, Ford’s GT is longer, wider, and closer to the ground just how a true sports car should be. Thus the price tag takes a toll on the choice altogether.

Ford did a fantastic job by reviving the GT and making it a road-legal vehicle. The new Ford GT is a modern-day high-performance beast that will make everyone at the track filled with fear down their spine of its mighty speed and lightning-fast lap times.
