Both a twin-turbocharged 3.5L V6 engine and a turbocharged 2.5L turbocharged inline-4 will be offered for the GV70. The base engine is a 4-cylinder with 300 horsepower, and the bigger V6 with 375 horsepower will only be available on the Sport variants. While the G70 sedan's turbo-4 is available with a manual transmission, the GV70 will continue to come standard with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. The twin-turbo V-6 engine had noticeable agility, especially when driven in Sport Plus mode. The GV70 with the -6 produced an excellent 4.9-second 0-60 mph performance. In the same test, the turbo-4 came in with a result of 5.6 seconds, which was almost as quick.

The Genesis happens to be the most affordable option in this premium lineup but that does not make the Korean-manufactured SUV any weaker in terms of performance. In fact, the GV70 packs in the highest power and torque, making it quicker and faster than its rivals. A part of the reason is due to the slightly larger engine that the Genesis packs and the closest car to the GV70 in terms of performance timing is the Audi, while both the BMW and Mercedes-Benz need at least 6 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill. This also makes the GV70 one of the most valuable deals in the segment.
2023 Genesis GV70 Ride and Handling
In our handling tests, the main differences between the two engine configurations became apparent. The GV70 3.5T's Germanic feel was commendable, but the 2.5T misses the last micron of precision, which we blamed on the tires. The 2.5T is a fantastic luxury SUV with an outstanding steering feel and input, but it lacks the 3.5T's extreme agility. It is hardly breaking news that a 4-cylinder vehicle with subpar tires can't match the performance of a vehicle with excellent wheels and tires.
2023 Genesis GV70 Braking Performance
The 2.5T GV70's 122-foot drawdown from 60 mph was two feet shorter than the 3.5T's. The brakes were smoking after some of our forceful, full-pedal stops, and there was a notable nose dive and tire screeching. Even yet, the stopping distances were very consistent across numerous testing, and the brakes held up. For what it's worth, the brake feel on both variants can be improved.

Genesis doesn’t pull off a party trick here and suffers from slightly weaker brakes when compared to its rivals. Despite being one of the lightest vehicles here, the 122 ft stopping distance is on the higher side, with the only car it beats being the Mercedes-Benz. Both the BMW and the Audi puts out performance car levels of braking performance. The lead here is taken by the BMW X3 despite it being the heaviest vehicle. The brakes equipped on the Genesis sit on the lower side of the scale and that explains the average braking performance that we got to notice.
