The 2023 Genesis GV80 now comes with an AWD drivetrain as standard on all trims. There are three main trim level categories of the 2023 Genesis GV80 SUV: Standard, Advanced, and Prestige. Release Date

The release information for the 2023 Genesis GV80 is yet to be confirmed. However, given that the SUV has been made available for purchase on the internet and that customers can place orders, we think it will be ready for delivery at dealerships by the late end of 2022.

Engine and Performance

The GV80 offers a choice of two engine options: a standard 2.5L Inline4 turbocharged and an optional 3.5L twin-turbo V6 engine. These two different engine options come equipped with a standard AWD drivetrain. The base engine when paired along a direct-shift 8-speed automatic transmission can generate an output of 300 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the optional 3.5L V6 when paired along with 8-speed automatic transmission generates an output of 375 hp and 391 lb-ft of torque.

The base variant can complete a 0 to 60 MPH run in 6.1 seconds while managing to breach the quarter-mile mark in 14.6 seconds. However, if you select the 3.5L V6 engine can shuttle the SUV from 0 to 60 MPH in 5.3 seconds while completing a quarter-mile mark in 13.9 seconds.

The standard four-cylinder engine of the GV80 offers quick and confident acceleration, but it occasionally sounds a little strained. Along with that, it takes a little longer to reach highway speeds or to complete a two-lane pass. On, the other hand, the standard engine provides a better fuel efficiency than the optional 3.5L V6 and has impressive power particularly offered in the turbo Inline4.

The BMW X5 offers a strong engine performance which generates an output of 335 hp and 331 lb-ft of torque. It provides a much swift acceleration that can run a 0 to 60 MPH in 5.3 seconds while completing a quarter-mile distance in 13.6 seconds. The towing capacity statistics aren’t known yet, however, while considering the above statistics it is expected to be the most efficient in towing capability too.

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 doesn’t offer the same powerful engine performance as other adversaries do but it surely compensates with a top speed of 130 MPH which is nearly the same as its rivals. On the other hand, the Genesis GV80 outperforms with a much better top speed of 143 MPH when compared to other adversaries it also offers an exceptional towing capacity of 6,000 lbs, which is more than enough to pull a small camper or a boat trailer easily.

2023 Genesis GV80 Ride and Handling

The 2023 Genesis GV80 provides a pristine & elegant driving experience. GV80 uses multi-link axles with steel coils at both ends, instead of the air suspension that most of its rivals do which penalizes either the handling or ride quality. The GV80 comes with standard adaptive cruise control as standard which maintains lane position without making frequent steering adjustments. The steering is medium-weighted and has an oily and slippery feel, it responds at a constant rate once the vehicle body has met with a constant pace, making it rather simple to drive this vehicle. However, with the absence of steering wheel feedback, it generally doesn’t offer a warning when the front tires give away which they will as the roll intensifies.

To suit your driving experience you can adjust along with five different drive mode options to choose from which are Eco, Comfort, Sport, Snow, and Comfort Advanced. We will recommend the 2023 Genesis GV80 sports mode option, as it comes with adjustable damping as standard, allowing you to somewhat tighten your body control in the Sports mode. Although in the same mode the car’s seat bolsters tighten up a little bit, it offers a very minor effect and if you have a small frame then you will find plenty of space between the bolsters for you to move around.

2023 Genesis GV80 Braking Performance

GV80 comes equipped with anti-lock brakes which can automatically detect when a tire has stopped rotating under extreme braking, and it will adjust the brake pressure which allows the tire to rate which further increases the vehicle's ability to turn while braking. The new Genesis provides good stability control that can automatically detect when the vehicle handling limit has been exceeded and it reduces the engine power or applies select brakes to help the driver prevent losing control of the vehicle. It also offers automated emergency braking that uses sensors to detect obstacles ahead and automatically apply brakes to reduce the severity of the collision or to avoid it completely.

This midsize SUV is equipped with front brake rotors and rear brake rotors each measuring 14.2 inches which is one of the largest present in its segment. While the 60-0 mph results are not yet known it offers some standard features which are 4-wheel ABS, 4-wheel disc brakes, brake assist, hill descent control, front and rear vented discs, and an electric parking brake.

The BMW X5 braking performance statistics are not known yet while considering the overall statistics we are quite confident to believe that though it might offer some changes it will practically turn out to be like its adversaries when it comes to braking experience. On the other hand, the Volvo XC90 comes equipped with a small set of 13.6 and 12.6 inches rotors at the front and the back which are small when compared to other adversaries, however, it compensates with a least curb weight of 4,522 lbs making it feel much lighter and easier for the car to travel at high speed.

GV80 has the highest curb weight which is around 4,850 lbs which feels the heaviest when compared to other contemporaries, however, the benefit of this heavier car is that it protects the occupants much better than a lighter vehicle. The new Genesis has the least turning radius which measures around 23.95 meters which generally results in a pleasant driving experience until you plan for a three-point turn instead of a U-turn.

Fuel Economy

The 2023 Genesis GV80 comes with average fuel efficiency in its class. According to EPA, the 2.5L Inline 4 engine delivers 20 MPG in the city, 24 MPG on the highway, and 22 MPG combined. While the 3.5L V6 engine gives a sheer performance, it certainly affects the fuel economy by 18 MPG in the city, 23 MPG on the highway, and 20 MPG combined. The gasoline tank capacity for the base engine and the optional 3.5L engine is the same measuring a total of 21.1 gallons.

The BMW X5 provides an exceptional range with a maximum of 570 miles on the highway. It also provides a much better mileage in the city with 21 MPG and 23 MPG combined. On, the other hand the Mercedes-Benz GLE 350 and the 2022 Volvo XC90 offer much better mileage on the highway with 27 MPG. on the other hand, Mercedes Benz GLE 350 offers the largest gasoline capacity with 22.5 gallons followed by the X5, which offers 21.9 gallons. Volvo XC90 falls at the bottom of the table with the least fuel tank measuring a maximum of 18.8 gallons. When comparing the overall statistics, we can say that the BMW X5 is a better fuel-efficient option in the midsize SUV present among all other options available.

Interior

The 2023 Genesis GV80 has a remarkable design that justifies its MSRP price. The 2023 Genesis interior design offers a feeling of simplicity that seems very exquisite in person despite the pricey materials. The inside of the car is sleek and simple, with lines that have a function running from the dashboard to the back doors. The cabin is decked with burled-wood trim, metal highlights, and integrated ambient lighting. Along with that, the GV80's cabin does a great job of reducing wind and road noise, creating a quiet and peaceful environment. The front seats are made from leather upholstery that looks sturdy yet comfy and includes a massaging feature that is genuinely soothing.

Genesis GV80 offers respectable performance and decent handling, the same cannot be said concerning the ride quality or comfort of the car. It manages to combine an elegant and comfortable primary ride, however, the rear passengers might experience travel sickness when it comes to a loud and unpleasant secondary ride. Along with that, the potholes and road surface noise are too harshly conveyed in the cabin. The new Genesis is equipped with a ride preview feature that employs a camera to analyze the road ahead and adjust the suspension in advance, but this feature is insufficient to lessen the impact of the 22 inch alloy wheels.

GV80 comes with an overall seating capacity of 5 passengers and it offers adequate headroom and legroom up front for taller passengers, also the front seats are soft and quite supportive. Similar comfort can be found in the second row, which has room for three children or two adults to fit comfortably. Adults, however, cannot sit comfortably on the available third row because of its confined space, however, it can be reserved for kids. It also offers a tri-zone climate control that meets and maintains the idle temperature with the use of simple controls and shortcuts available.

Genesis GV80 offers the best cargo capacity in all three rows when the second-row seats are folded down, the cargo capacity increases to a massive 84 cubic feet and 34.9 cubic feet. Additionally, the second row features a split layout of 40/20/40 and may be folded flat with the push of a button. BMW X5 offers plenty of room for adults in both the first and second rows, while the third row is solely available for children.

Mercedes Benz's cargo capacity statistics aren’t known yet, however, it offers an adequate first-row and second-row spacing capacity when compared to its adversaries, which highlights that the cargo capacity would be adequate. On the other hand, the Volvo XC90 has bench seats in the second and third rows, all trims come standard with a 7-seat layout which is affected by the least cargo capacity offered to the third row which measures 12.6 cu-ft, and the first row offers a 65.5 cu-ft space compared to its adversaries.

Some standout interior features of the 2023 Genesis GV80 include

  • Synthetic leather upholstery.
  • Heated 2nd-row seats.
  • Ventilated 2nd-row seats (outboard).
  • Power 2nd-row seat recline.
  • The tri-zone climate control.

Additionally, one of the best systems in its class, the smart cruise control with highway driving assist allows for some hands-off driving when conditions persist. An A14.5-inch touch screen is spacious, responsive, and high up on the dashboard, making it simple to see but difficult to access.

The center console is equipped with a click-wheel controller that allows the driver to manage the system, and it functions fairly well. The sound quality of the optional 21-speaker premium audio system is likewise extremely outstanding.

Some of the standout infotainment features include

  • 12-inch Heads-up display.
  • Lexicon premium audio with 21 speakers.
  • Genesis digital key along with Android locks/unlocks the door easily.
  • Qi wireless charging pad.

Additionally, the exterior lighting design provides two lines of light that wrap around the sides of the car and imitate the wings of the Genesis logo. The Genesis GV80 comes with a diamond-mesh grille look that makes its exterior stands out from others. The standard specification of the exterior dimensions offers 194.7, 77.8, and 67.5 inches in length, width, and height, respectively. Along with that, it offers a high ground clearance i.e. 8.1 inches which makes it better to drive in uneven places. Additionally, the 22-inch alloy wheels with all-season tires maximize your on-road performance. Nonetheless, its sizable wheelbase of 116.3 inches ensures that the SUV provides appropriate space on the inside.

Other SUVs also offer good numbers in ground clearance, however, the 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE-Class lies at the bottom of the table at 7.1 inches. Competition

2023 Genesis GV80 vs 2022 BMW X5

A fantastic premium midsize SUV, the 2022 BMW X5 outperforms the 2023 Genesis GV80 in certain respects but falls short in others. The 2022 BMW X5 has more precise handling and a wider selection of engines that provide more powerful performance and engine torque. Additionally, the 2022 BMW X5 claims to have a larger towing capability, and its infotainment system is a little bit simpler to operate. On the other hand, the 2023 Genesis GV80 offers a longer warranty, a cheaper starting price, and a better braking system. Along with that the interior features and it also offers high-quality leather upholstery that is far more highly speculated than its competition.

2023 Genesis GV80 vs 2022 Mercedes Benz GLE 350

The Mercedes Benz GLE 350 SUV has a wide range of potent engines, with even the entry-level 2.0-liter 4-cylinder producing 255 hp. The GLE is made of soft, high-quality materials and is exceptionally well-built. There is plenty of head and leg room in the back, and the seats are really comfy. On the other hand, the 2023 Genesis GV80 offers better engine performance and is equipped with synthetic leather upholstery and upscale materials that make it feel comfortable and lively. Along with that, it comes with tri-zone climate control, a huge cluster, and extensive warranty coverage.

2023 Genesis GV80 vs 2022 Volvo XC90

Volvo XC90 offers more seating capacity to the passengers i.e. overall 7 passengers can sit easily. Along with that, it offers fuel-efficient mileage numbers and a comfy, high-end interior. However, the gas tank size falls the least with 18.8 gallons. On the other hand, the 2023 Genesis GV80 has a better cargo capacity in different row levels, along with that it has a better top speed and 0-60 MPH acceleration.

Final Verdict

Yes, we recommend the 2023 Genesis GV80 as it offers better engine power and exquisite interior looks that add to its class. It has a brilliant specification list and is speedy, roomy, and fully loaded. Additionally, it seems much more nimble and eager, mostly because of the straight, rapid steering rack. It also offers better braking quality and has good front and rear rotor brakes sizes i.e. 14.2 inches. This is one of the quietest premium SUVs available thanks to standard active noise reduction, leather upholstery, sophisticated and well-equipped, with a blend of comfort and agility which is difficult to match.
