Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2023 GMC Acadia SUV doesn’t offer any significant changes from 2022, however, it has been a part of the second Acadia generation which was introduced in the year 2017. Along with that, the 2023 GMC Acadia provides quick acceleration, has an adaptable interior, and has an easy-to-operate infotainment system. The 2023 GMC Acadia SUV comes with four different trims: SLE, SLT, ALT4, and Denali. The GMC Acadia starts at $36,500 which can range up to $40,800 and, while we keep in mind the class it falls in it will always receive competition from the likes of the Kia Telluride, the Honda Pilot, the Toyota Highlander.

The 2023 GMC Acadia returns to the markets with considerable modifications. It comes fully equipped with potent features, and along with that the 2023 GMC Acadia comes in four different trim levels to choose from, however, our website has separately written articles for the ALT4 and Denali trim. Both the SLE and SLT trims come with an FWD drivetrain as standard and an optional AWD drivetrain is also offered in both of these trims.

The SLE trim and SLT trims start at an MSRP of $36,695 and $40,995 with a 2.0L turbo Inline4 cylinder engine as standard. GMC also offers an optional 3.6L V6 engine whose MSRP starts from $42,990. The new Acadia comes equipped with some standard specifications which are LED headlamps, GMC pro safety plus, HD rear vision camera, heated driver and front seats, a 6-speaker audio system, and an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen.

We Recommend

We would recommend the SLT trim for the 2023 GMC Acadia SUV, which comes with an optional 3.6L V6 engine providing better engine performance than the standard 2.0L Inline4 engine. Also, the SLT trim offers better radio above the standard model, plush interior, updated power-adjustable seats, etc. The foglights and roof rails enhance usefulness at a reasonable cost, further aligning the GMC Acadia with its luxury image.

Release Date

The release date information hasn’t been confirmed yet officially. However, customers can go to the official GMC Acadia website and can place orders we believe that the midsize SUV will be ready for delivery at dealerships and showrooms at the quarter end of 2022.

Engine and Performance

The 2023 GMC Acadia SUV continues to be a part of the second Acadia generation which was introduced in the year 2017. GMC Acadia offers a 2.0L turbo Inline 4 as standard in both SLE and SLT trims. It also offers an FWD drivetrain, as standard. Additionally, the SLT trim offers an optional 3.6L V6 engine. However, both the SLE and SLT trim also come with an optional AWD drivetrain. All the GMC model options are paired along with a 9-speed automatic transmission that provides smooth and effortless automatic shifting. The base engine produces a maximum of 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. On the other hand, the optional 3.5L V6 engine delivers better accelerating performance with 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque.

The base engine can sprint 0 to 60 MPH in 7.7 seconds and can run a quarter mile in 15.6 seconds. However, these numbers decline in the optional 3.6L V6 engine which can accelerate 0 to 60 MPH in 6.5 seconds and can run a quarter-mile of distance in 14.7 seconds. The base engine offered in both the SLE and SLT trims provides adequate power for driving around in the city and on the highway along with much better fuel efficiency than the optional engine available. A standard 3.47 axle ratio allows the engine to achieve its top performance and stay there for a longer period easily. However, the 3.6L engine offers more liveliness in the ride and anyone who is driving around a full complement of passengers or a trailer behind should consider the benchmarks of its engine performance.

The Toyota Highlander offers a standard 3.5L V6 engine that offers a high engine power performance and makes it mark at the top of the table which can produce a maximum of 295 hp and 263 lb-ft of torque.

On the other hand, it lurks at the bottom of the table with a relatively slow top speed of 112 MPH against its adversaries. Although it compensates with a swift acceleration that can run 0 to 60 MPH in 6.8 seconds while completing a quarter mile mark in 15.4 seconds. The Honda Pilot can complete a run of 0 to 60 MPH acceleration in 6.2 seconds while covering a quarter-mile distance in 14.7 seconds which in terms is the quickest when compared to other adversaries. On the other hand, Kia Telluride outperforms with a better top speed of 141 MPH against its adversaries, and the engine has enough muscle for passing and getting up to highway speeds.

2023 GMC Acadia Ride and Handling

GMC Acadia provide an elegant and comfortable driving experience. The newly introduced Acadia has an independent multi-link suspension at the front and rear which allows the vehicle to flex more which means the suspension can move easily to varying angles in off-road driving. The steering on the Acadia has an adequate weight and offers a responsive turning around the corners so that you don’t feel unsteady. When driving at high speeds, Acadia seems to be heavy-footed but when driven less aggressively, the ride is steady and gentle. Additionally, on wavy roads, Acadia drives steadily, and with little body lean it is not difficult to navigate in congested parking lots and garages.

Acadia’s Traction select system that comes as a standard feature offers added confidence by allowing you to switch up to different modes and provides a good performance in varied road conditions. Along with that, the newly introduced GMC feels comfortable to pilot across winding mountain roads which is provided through a well-balanced steering control and a firm suspension, however, a little noise around the windshield pillars is a bit concerning. It also comes equipped with standard specifications such as automatic start/stop, traction select, and dual-outlet exhaust.

2023 GMC Acadia Braking Performance

GMC Acadia provides good potent features when it comes to deceleration. The braking performance is not known yet. Along with that, both the brake rotor sizes and the SUV's performance in the 60-0 mph stopping test are unavailable. All the GV80s come equipped with 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes that prevent wheel lock on all four wheels that offer improved driving control over steering, however, in an emergency stopping situation the drivers of the 4-wheel ABS should step firmly on the brake and maintain foot pressure on the pedal. It also offers automatic emergency braking as a standard that can often detect obstacles with the help of a sensor and automatically apply brakes to reduce or completely avoid collision severity.

Compared to the GMC Acadia all the adversaries have the statistics of their front and rear rotor brake size respectively. Toyota Highlander provides a better combination size in its front and rear rotor breaks measuring 13.3-inches each. However, the Honda Pilot feels the lightest among its competition with a minimal 4,030 lbs curb weight. On the other hand, Kia Telluride has the highest curb weight i.e. 4,211 lbs among all its counterparts which makes it feel much heavier than other SUVs, however, it feels much more stable while accelerating at higher speeds.

In practical life, GMC Acadia performs well with a firm and responsive brake pedal that often results in short stopping distance in both dry and wet conditions. GMC Acadia offers minimalist features that make braking performance a lot easier. Some features include a forward collision alert, front pedestrian braking, and the StabiliTrak feature that automatically helps to enhance control during emergencies.

Fuel Economy

GMC Acadia's fuel efficiency seems to be on par average with other conventionally powered midsize SUVs. The EPA estimates that and FWD drivetrain gives a mileage of 22 MPG in the city, 29 MPG on the highway, and 25 MPG combined. However, the optional AWD drivetrain offers 22 MPG in the city, 27 MPG on the highway, and 24 MPG combined. The newly introduced GMC Acadia along with an FWD drivetrain offers a maximum of 19.4-gallon tank both for the SLE and SLT trims. On the other hand, the AWD drivetrain offers a better and bigger gasoline tank in all four trims which measures a total of 21.7 gallons.
