Overall Rating

For the 2022 model year, the crossover sees the plug pulled off from the base trim making the well-equipped SLE the new base trim. This also leaves the base 2.5L inline-4 replaced with the turbocharged 2.0L inline-4, leaving the bigger V6 as is. The 2022 GMC Acadia AT4 goes against the 2022 Kia Telluride, 2022 Chevrolet Traverse, and 2022 Honda Pilot

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 SUV Features

The 2022 GMC Acadia AT4 is the most off-road focused trim of all and is placed just below the Acadia Denali that carries an MSRP of $46,600 for the front-wheel drive powertrain. The AT4 carries all the amenities of the well-equipped SLT trim which makes features like an eight-speaker Bose audio system, eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat, HD radio, navigation system, fog lights, and leather upholstery as standard equipment. On top of this, the AT4 adds various other features which are listed down in the table below.

Key Features

310-hp V6 engine

Standard all-wheel drive

Special 17-inch wheels with all-terrain tires

Specific componentry to the AT4 for greater traction

Hill hold assist

Hill descent control

Black exterior trim

There are many packages that the company offers to load up in the AT4 trim. These packages include some of the prominent ones like the Technology Package and Preferred Package that add features like memory settings for the power driver seat, power passenger lumbar control, heated and ventilated driver and front passenger seats, power tilt and telescopic steering column, automatic heated steering wheel, head-up display, and HD Surround Vision. There are several other packages as well like the ‘Hit The Road’ Package, the Floor Liner Package, the Cargo Package, and Adventure Package which add various other bits and pieces.

We recommend

Since the Acadia AT4 is a standalone trim, it is going to be our obvious choice because of all the amenities it carries forward from the SLT and also due to the rugged appeal and the bigger V6 on offer with standard AWD. in terms of the packages on offer, the Preferred Package is a must due to all the features it adds on to the list for $995 while the Trailering Package adds a lot of towing-specific instrumentation.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 Release date

The 2022 GMC Acadia AT4 has started hitting the dealerships since the Summer of 2021 with the prices unchanged from the previous model year.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 SUV Engine and Performance

The 2022 GMC Acadia now gets a turbocharged 2.0L as standard but the AT4 trim gets the bigger 3.6L V6 that churns out a very impressive 310 horsepower and 271 lb-ft of torque that sends all the output to all the four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. In terms of quickness, the V6 has very strong acceleration and can hit the 60 MPH mark in just 6.1 seconds, with the quarter-mile done in 15 seconds flat.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 3.6L V6 Engine

The raised driving position makes it very commanding in the city and also gives very good visibility out the windows and the big side mirrors. There aren't a lot of blind spots in the cabin which aids in navigating through the busy streets as well. The suspension might feel a little bit firm because of the AT4-specific tuning done to them but they do alright. The turning circle is adequate and U-turns are no problem.

On a twisty road, the steering is light and it has tremendous feedback from the wheels which also aids in tipping the crossover rather quickly through the bends. The firm suspension settings do help a lot when being driven enthusiastically and make the crossover feel very sure-footed with minimal body roll. The suspension does a good job in soaking up these undulations on the highway as well but the ambient noise in the cabin increases which is largely due to the wheels the crossover comes equipped with.

All the crossovers come equipped with V6 engines that are very potent and have very similar torque figures, with the power figures varying by quite a bit. The Chevrolet Traverse’s engine is very similar to the GMC’s that makes both the engines the most powerful in the comparison, with the latter’s engine producing more torque. This also gives it a massive advantage of almost a second in the 0-60 MPH runs as well as in the quarter-mile. Talking of the acceleration, the Pilot is the quickest off the line clocking 5.9 seconds and is rather closely followed by the Acadia.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 SUV Fuel Economy

The Acadia AT4 comes equipped with the bigger V6 that comes in the crossover’s engine choices and that said, the EPA ratings of this naturally-aspirated motor stand at 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway, for a combined of 21 MPG from its 22.0-gallon fuel tank.

The V6 does a very good job of providing a strong performance from the engine, while also keeping the fuel economy in check. The numbers aren’t too far off but a combined range of 462 miles is the highest in the segment.

Range (City/Highway/Combined) (Miles)

The Acadia’s fuel economy is very much in line with what the rivals return but the big fuel tank lends it the most range in the comparison. The 22.0-gallon tank ensures a massive range of 572 miles on the highway. That said, the Kia is the most fuel-efficient one here averaging 23 MPG but the smallest tank in the comparison eats up its range. It is followed by the Honda Pilot that with its sizable tank averages 449 miles, allowing it to assume the second position after the GMC in this aspect.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 SUV Interior

The interior of the 2022 Acadia AT4 is very intuitive and the buttons and controls are well placed out with easy reach for the occupants. The door panels have a very soft-touch material covering them. The armrest is covered in leather and there is contrast stitching done to add to the visuals of the crossover. The door cubby is big enough to hold a big water bottle. The dashboard also has a leather finish with contrast stitching and soft-touch material on the top along with a trim piece that extends front the AC vent.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 Dashboard

The center of the dashboard houses the infotainment screen along with physical knobs and buttons to interact with the system. The center of the dashboard also houses the controls for the climate settings and the push-pull gear shifter below these settings. The center console gets a big cubby space housing the 12V and the USB ports. The console also houses a couple of cup holders, the toggles for heated/ventilated seats, and the AWD selector. The center armrest is huge and is covered with soft padding.

The seats have a distinct “AT4” embroidery with piping that goes around the seats and is of the same color as the contrast stitching that makes its way to the seats as well. The stitching feels solid and gives a very well-built vibe. The leather is very soft especially on the sitting area and the whole package is very supportive. The AT4 gets power-adjustable seating for both the passenger and the driver along with heating to increase comfort.

In the second row, there is a lot of space for the occupants and the sunroof adds a lot of light, making the cabin feel airy. The back of the front seats is also wrapped in soft leather and also included a storage pocket. The floor mats get a similar piping treatment as the front seats. In the center, there are controls for the rear AC, a home-style power source, two USB ports, and a small cubby. The second-row seats can slide and recline making for easy access to the third row.

Getting into the third row is as easy as pulling a lever that drops the seat down and moves it forward to open a nice spot for your foot to climb in. The seating position of the third row isn’t bad because the knees aren’t too high and there is ample headroom for the occupants. The rear quarter windows are huge and don’t make the seating feel cramped. In terms of practicality, the third row gets a USB point but only on one side.

Seating Capacity

Front Row (Headroom/Shoulder Room/Legroom; inches)

Second Row (Headroom/Shoulder Room/Legroom; inches)

Third Row (Headroom/Shoulder Room/Legroom; inches)

Cargo Capacity (cubic feet)

The Acadia AT4 gets very comfortable seating in the first and the second row but when it comes to the third row, the seating becomes a bit cramped and the occupants are found struggling for legroom. The seating posture is good, but the compact shoulder room doesn’t help in improving the case. The boot capacity of 12.8 cu.-ft in the crossover isn’t as great as the others, with the Kia and Chevrolet establishing a considerable lead, having a capacity of over 20 cu.-ft. That said, the interior does have a lot of versatility and comfort, which is highlighted by:

  • Keyless ignition and entry
  • Tri-zone automatic climate control
  • Active noise cancellation
  • Remote start
  • Heated front seats
  • Leather upholstery
  • Eight-way power-adjustable driver's seat
  • Six-way power-adjustable passenger's seat
  • Household-style power outlet for the middle row
  • Reclining and sliding second-row seats

What’s there to keep you entertained in the 2022 GMC Acadia AT4?

The 2022 GMC Acadia AT4 will be unchanged in terms of the infotainment equipment on offer which means that the crossover will come with an 8-inch touchscreen system that can also be controlled via buttons and knobs as well. This system brings in wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto while also loading GM’s OnStar-connected services that add a lot of versatility to the whole system. This also means that the infotainment system also gets an onboard Wi-Fi hotspot for added convenience. The standard music system on the crossover is a six-speaker unit but the Acadia AT4 comes with the upgraded 8-speaker Bose unit for a premium sound experience.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 Infotainment System

Behind the steering wheel, Acadia AT4 comes with two analog gauges and a digital screen in between which is very easy to use via controls on the steering wheel. This display shows everything from the trips to the tire pressure and the driving mode the crossover is currently on. The Technology Package adds a head-up display which does a brilliant job of showing the speedometer, the active gear, and the tachometer as clear as day. It is adjustable and large enough to be seen in sunlight as well. Some of the highlighting features of this system are:

  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Bluetooth
  • GM OnStar
  • Wi-Fi hotspot
  • 5 USB ports
  • Navigation system
  • 12V socket
  • Household-style power outlet for the middle row

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 SUV Exterior

The Acadia was redesigned for the 2020 model year and has seen no visual changes since. The redesign bought a new LED headlamp shape that looks more aggressive and handsome. There is a slight blacked-out design inside but works well with the AT4. The front bumper is a bit low for an off-road-centric trim but is still pretty good nonetheless. The grille is massive and gives the crossover a very imposing stance.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 Three Quarter View

The AT4 gets trim-specific 17-inch gloss black alloy wheels that are covered in all-terrain tires. There is good clearance between the wheel and the fender for off-road ability. The fenders are flared out by a bit to encompass the all-terrain tires. The mirror-mounted indicators are slim and look classy. The AT4 gets raised roof rails with crossbars which also add ruggedness to the design. At the rear, the glass looks wrapped around and the chrome trim piece above the number plate bracket provides a much-needed contrast to the rear.

Curb Weight (lbs)

Width (in)

Height (in)

Ground Clearance (in)

Wheelbase (in)

The Acadia AT4 is one of the heaviest crossovers in the comparison and tips the scales at nearly 4,300 lbs that places it just under the Traverse. In terms of proportions, the GMC is the most compact with the least length, width, and height of 193.4, 75.4, and 66.7 inches, respectively, which justifies the cramped third row and the low cargo area on offer.

The longer wheelbase does help with the driving and makes the crossover feel stable. The Chevrolet Traverse has the longest wheelbase on the offer of 121 inches, while the Kia Telluride has similar ground clearance as the GMC and is above the 8-inch mark. That said, some of the highlighting features of the AT4 are:

  • Black exterior trim
  • Special 17-inch wheels
  • All-terrain tires
  • AT4-specific roof rails
  • Fog lights
  • Hands-free liftgate

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 SUV Safety

The 2022 GMC Acadia is based on a tried and tested platform which is also seen in GM’s other vehicles as well. This platform helps to keep the weight of the crossover in check while not sacrificing the structural rigidity of the vehicle. Along with this, the Acadia AT4 also houses the latest driver-assistance features and comes with GM Pro Safety Plus as standard across the range. This adds driver-assistance features like:

  • Front and rear parking sensors
  • Automatic emergency braking
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Blind-spot monitor
  • Lane departure warning
  • Rear cross-traffic alert

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 Vs. 2022 Kia Telluride EX

The Kia Telluride is another feature-packed crossover that can seat 8 people with adequate comfort even in the third row. The engine on the crossover is decently quick and the ride comfort is very good when compared to the AT4’s firm suspension setup. The cabin of the Telluride is well sorted-out and looks well worth the price. The AT4, on the other hand, gets a more powerful engine, more range, handsome styling, and the pinnacle of driver-assistance from the American manufacturer.

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 Vs. 2022 Chevrolet Traverse LT

Both the GMC and Chevrolet share the same platform and hence have very similar output. The Acadia has more torque and has a very quick acceleration which is very evident in the times it clocks. It also has a blacked-out exterior which adds to the muscular looks, and also gets better fuel economy than the Traverse. The Chevrolet, on the other hand, has a more spacious third row and also has a better quality for the cabin. The Chevrolet Traverse is bigger proportionally but the shorter wheelbase helps in negotiating through the city.

2022 Chevrolet Traverse LT Three Quarter View

2022 GMC Acadia AT4 Vs. 2022 Honda Pilot EX-L

The Honda Pilot has a very refined engine and also has stronger acceleration, a more comfortable cabin, better quality of materials, and a very decent design with a fair bit of chrome. The Pilot is a bigger vehicle and also has more boot space than the AT4. The GMC has an advantage in fuel economy, looks, and the technology that is used inside in the infotainment system.
