The Regular cab is only available with the base variant. For those wondering, a 4WD drivetrain option is available with this trim and is the one to go for. With prices starting from $29,195 only, the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab is definitely one of the most affordable and VFM pickups available in the market. Moreover, you can add the Convenience and Driver alert package to the list.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Engine and Performance

7.1/10

A 4.3-L V6 can be seen under the hood of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab. This engine churns out 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of peak power and torque output respectively. A 6-speed automatic gearbox is available as standard with this engine with no manual gearbox. The buyers have an option to choose from the 2WD and the 4WD drivetrain option. The 4.3-L V6 engine is also seen powering the Silverado 1500 and is known to have bulletproof reliability along with superior performance and capabilities.

Being a V6 engine, this engine does offer maximum performance in the second half of rev-band but also boasts a strong low end which makes it a great truck to tow and haul stuff. The NVH levels too are decent but the engine does get vocal as it nears the redline. The response to the throttle is a little laggy and could have been better. High torque however helps it have an edge over most of the rivals when it comes to performance and capabilities.

With a 0-60 mph timing of just 6.7 secs, the 2019 Sierra 1500 Regular Cab trails behind the Ford and RAM. However, the overall performance and power output from the engine too is impressive when compared to the rivals. In fact, it offers the highest torque figures on paper but it doesn’t translate well on roads due to its heavyweight.

How well does the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab handle?

With the launch of the fully redesigned 2019 Sierra 1500, it now features significant improvements in terms of handling. To begin with, there is a significant amount of weight reduction, all thanks to the use of aluminum body panels, a carbon-fiber cargo bed, and a lighter frame. In addition to this, the suspension too has been re-tuned while the frame of the vehicle is stiffer than before.

All this helped improve the driving dynamics of this vehicle. The body roll is now well restricted and the car remains planted during hard cornering. The steering may not have too much feel or feedback but is easy and light to use. In all, the 2019 Sierra 1500 Regular Cab does offer a decent driving experience.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab Braking Performance

Equipped with an all-wheel disc brake setup, the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab also comes equipped with a long list of driver assistance techs that enhances braking performance. The front wheels come equipped with 13-inch rotors while the rear wheels get 13.6-inch rotors. In addition to this, you also get ABS, EBD, and brake assist to help the driver bring the truck to a stop during emergency situations without any major drama.

Despite having a capable setup, the braking performance of the Sierra 1500 Regular Cab is not the best. It takes more than 130 feet to stop from 60-0MPH. The brake pedal feels could have been better. Competitors like the RAM 1500 Classic however offer better stopping power despite weighing nearly 5-ton.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Fuel Economy

3.0/10

The fuel economy on the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab is claimed to be 17 MPG for combined usage. Individually, the vehicle boasts a fuel economy of 16 MPG and 21 MPG respectively. In addition to this, the fuel tank capacity of the truck stands at 24.6 gallons. The V6 engine powering the Sierra 1500 is not known to be very frugal, hence may have a significant impact on the gas bills.

The fuel economy offered by the Sierra 1500 is decent but not the best in the segment. Rivals like the F-150 and the RAM 1500 Classic offer significantly better fuel economy. RAM is the overall winner here thanks to the above-average 22MPG combined fuel economy and with a large fuel tank at 32 gallons, it boasts 800 miles on the highway.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Interior

8.4/10

The interior of the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab is basic and has decent space for two or three passengers to sit inside comfortably. But the high ground clearance and high seating make it a little difficult to enter inside the cabin. The dashboard design looks basic but it features a touchscreen infotainment system. Having said that, the driver’s seat is four-way adjustable and offers decent comfort. The support and cushioning offered by the front seats are decent but could have been better.

The visibility from the cabin is great and maneuvering this truck through narrow spaces will not be a major concern. The quality of the materials used inside the cabin is not very premium and remains basic being a work truck. Apart from this, the steering wheel gets tilt adjustment while the IRVM does get manual day/night dimming functionality. Other features like rear window defroster are offered as an optional upgrade.

The space offered inside the cabin of the Sierra 1500 Regular cab is one of the best in the segment. However, the dashboard layout and the quality of the materials used inside the cabin could have been better. Chevy Silverado is a twin that offers almost identical interior space and features. RAM 1500 Classic despite being the longest of the lot falls short on interior and cargo space when compared to the rivals. Some of the interior features in the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab include:

  • Cloth upholstery
  • Tilt-adjustable steering wheel
  • Optional rear window defroster
  • Manual day/night IRVM
  • Front power windows
  • Steering mounted cruise control buttons
  • Four-way adjustable driver’ seat

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Exterior

5.0/10

Modern pickup trucks are now available with a strong design language that gives them a massive road presence and the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab is no different. The truck now boasts a revised front design, all thanks to the new hood, a larger grille, and new LED headlights. In addition to this, other body panels have been worked upon to give it a refreshed design.

While the truck now boasts revised styling, it continues to feature basic still rims and does miss out on body-colored elements like front bumpers and ORVMs. As standard, you get 17-inch steel wheels. Apart from that, you can opt for an EZ Lift tailgate, tinted glass, LED cargo box lighting, chrome accents, and skid plates through optional packages. In all, the 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab looks imposing and aggressive but along with this, continues to have basic elements that do take a toll on the overall looks of the vehicle.

The 2019 Chevrolet Silverado and the 2019 GMC Sierra not only share the same platform and the powertrain but in addition to this, they share almost all the components with each other. The 2019 Ford F-150 is the most popular and highest selling truck in the segment that is known for its supreme reliability and high capabilities. The 2019 F-150 offers premium design, more upmarket interiors and is backed by strong after-sales support. The 2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab in its base avatar looks lackluster in performance as well as capabilities.

2019 GMC Sierra 1500 Regular Cab vs 2019 RAM 1500 Classic Regular Cab

The RAM vehicles are now slowly gaining popularity in the market due to their well-built and premium products that also boast high capabilities.
