The GMC Sierra 2500HD is a no-nonsense and serious heavy-duty pick-up truck and is an easily recognizable and popular truck among the American market. For the year 2022, the Sierra 2500 HD Crew Cab will receive very minor changes and mostly remain the same. Since the car is very similar to the last model we do not have too much to explore or explain on this context. That does not stop us from wishing for more creature comforts and better performance.

We Recommend

There is no point going all the way up to the top trim unless you have a very good reason to flaunt the car. If you want your pickup to be comfortable and utilitarian, then the better choice would be one of the mid-range trims with an AWD drivetrain option which guarantees to be both utilitarian and comfortable.

The GMC is a premium brand, thus it is more expensive than the other pickup trucks. When the diesel powertrains enter the room with their exceptional torque output and amazing towing capabilities. With more than 19,000lbs towing capacity, both Ford F250 SuperDuty and the RAM 2500 are more capable in that regard. The GM twins fall a bit short with that front.

Fuel Economy

7.5/10

With the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab with the Duramax Diesel, you'll get a relatively better fuel economy. As the diesel engines output better torque at low RPM, they save fuel. Also, the Duramax gets more efficient with its 10-Speed Allison automatic transmission. It is said to have delivered 15 MPG in the city, an impressive 17 mpg on the highway, and a combined 16 MPG. It means you have more than 600 miles to spare on the highway which is unmatchable. The 36-gallon fuel tank helps quite a bit in this regard.

The Ford F250 SuperDuty is ahead with its better MPG. The RAM 2500 also manages to return better highway mileage. With its diesel powertrain, the Sierra 2500HD returns the best in class real-world 17 MPG which is better than any of its rivals. Put that together with a massive 36.0-gallon tank, you are all set for the distance.

The GMC Sierra 2500HD gets the most charismatic exterior design from the list here. Even with its overdone chrome accents, it gets its unique luxury touch. The wide-body stance and those huge side mirrors make it the widest truck in the segment. The Sierra and Silverado have a 10.1-inch ground clearance but a comparatively shorter wheelbase than the other pick-up trucks. The Ford F250 is the lightest truck where the heaviest and longest one is the RAM 2500. Highlight Exterior features are:

  • Massive chrome-trimmed grille
  • Chrome exterior accents
  • Hood scoop for air cooling
  • High intensity LED headlamps with DRLs
  • LED turn signals and roof marker lamps
  • MultiPro tailgate with 6 functions
  • 20-inch polished aluminum wheels
  • 34-inch all-terrain tires

Safety

3.0/10

Its boxed ladder frame combined with 9 high-strength steel cross members makes the GMC Sierra 2500HD a well-balanced, rigid, and confident pickup truck. The cabin and frame are strengthened with high strength and ultra high strength steel to give a robust structure. GMC has given the Sierra 2500HD some safety technologies. Standout Safety features are:

  • High strength steel cross members
  • Safety alert seat
  • Surround-view camera with 15 angle view,
  • Jackknife alert
  • Forward collision warning
  • Lane departure warning with lane keep assist
  • Blind-spot monitoring

Competition

8.0/10

GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab vs Ford F-250 SuperDuty Crew Cab

The GMC trumps the Ford With powerful engine options and towing capabilities, a practical cabin, tech for trailering, and high-end comfort and convenience features. Neither is the ford quicker but the Ford offers better infotainment features than the Sierra. The GMC clearly proves itself to be the best in class but the one feature of infotainment technology makes it a step lower than what it can be.

GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab vs RAM 2500 Crew Cab

We have the GMC Sierra 2500HD with its premium design. The available engine options are quite powerful where the Duramax Diesel even gives you decent mileage. Also, we have a spacious cabin with premium leather and wood accents. The RAM 2500 is the most rugged pickup truck in its segment. It gives a tough time to Sierra with more powerful engines. It also offers much more technology up the trims than the GMC.

GMC Sierra 2500HD Crew Cab vs Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Crew Cab

Both these have not too many differences except for a few styling elements and that is all. The reason is that these two come from the same maker. While the GMC has a premium appeal the Chevrolet has a more utilitarian on and is sold more than the GMC.

Final Verdict

The GMC Sierra 2500 Crew Cab is not a bad pickup truck but for a price point like that, there are some features that we expect it to offer and some features made even better. The safety might be there but the addition of a few more safety features will do the truck well. It is a premium pickup that is capable and priced like it but it can do a lot more for that price point.
