The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel is powered by a powerful 6.6-liter DURAMAX turbocharged V8 diesel engine. The engine is capable of producing 495 horsepower and the maximum torque output is rated at 910 pound-feet. This is the same engine that powers Sierra’s corporate twin Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Diesel Double Cab. The engine is mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels. The 10-speed transmission does a great job and manages the power very well. 

The gasoline engine powering the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab is very powerful and does the job pretty well. The biggest advantage of the diesel engine is the extra torque that it offers. It means it is easier to pull heavier loads with the 910 pound-feet of torque. The power is available in the lower range of the rave range which makes it easier to drive in the city. It also helps you counter the turbo lag that usually comes with the diesel engine at a lower speed. The power never feels on the lower side, and there is always enough power on reserve when you want to make a quick overtake on the highways. 

The pickup trucks are not made for racing on the tracks, and you do not expect them to handle like a hatchback. The GMC Sierra 2500HD comes with vague steering wheels that are not at all communicative. It works just fine and changes the lanes with ease. However, it lacks precision and you can not call it an engaging steering wheel at all. The driving dynamics are also not that good for the 2022 Sierra 2500HD. It is a good truck for practicality and highway cruising for people who do not care about driving engagement at all.

The ride quality of the Sierra is also not very impressive but considering the segment, it does a good job in terms of the ride quality. The 2021 Ford F-250 Super Diesel Duty SuperCab has the most powerful engine on offer, yet it takes 8 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill. It manages to deliver a combined fuel economy of 14 miles which is good enough considering its capabilities. The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Diesel Double Cab which shares the same engine that powers the Sierra 2500HD manages to deliver 10 mpg in the city, 15 mpg on the highway, and 12 mpg of combined fuel economy. There should not be that much of a difference between the fuel economy of the Silverado 2500HD Diesel and the Sierra 2500HD Diesel. The 2021 RAM 2500 Crew Cab has the least fuel-efficient diesel engine and also comes with the smallest fuel tank in the segment. 

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel comes with a surprisingly good quality interior for the segment. The space inside the interior is managed very well. The seats are comfortable and provide good support over long journeys. The driver sits high and gets very good visibility of the road ahead. The driving position is also comfortable. All the controls for the driver are designed ergonomically and can be reached from the driver’s seat without much hassle. The space between the driver and the co-passenger is generous too.

The rear seats of the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel are also practical. The legroom is sufficient for accommodating adults in front and rear seats at the same time.
