2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel Release Date

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel is already released and is available to book. The complete lineup of the 2022 GMC Sierra is available to book at the GMC website.

2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel Double Cab Engine and Performance

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel is powered by a powerful 6.6-liter DURAMAX turbocharged V8 diesel engine. The engine is capable of producing 495 horsepower and the maximum torque output is rated at 910 pound-feet. This is the same engine that powers Sierra’s corporate twin Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Diesel Double Cab. The engine is mated to a ten-speed automatic transmission that sends the power to the rear wheels. The 10-speed transmission does a great job and manages the power very well.

The gasoline engine powering the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab is very powerful and does the job pretty well. The biggest advantage of the diesel engine is the extra torque that it offers. It means it is easier to pull heavier loads with the 910 pound-feet of torque. The power is available in the lower range of the rave range which makes it easier to drive in the city. It also helps you counter the turbo lag that usually comes with the diesel engine at a lower speed. The power never feels on the lower side, and there is always enough power on reserve when you want to make a quick overtake on the highways.

The pickup trucks are not made for racing on the tracks, and you do not expect them to handle like a hatchback. The GMC Sierra 2500HD comes with vague steering wheels that are not at all communicative. It works just fine and changes the lanes with ease. However, it lacks precision and you can not call it an engaging steering wheel at all. The driving dynamics are also not that good for the 2022 Sierra 2500HD. It is a good truck for practicality and highway cruising for people who do not care about driving engagement at all.

The ride quality of the Sierra is also not very impressive but considering the segment, it does a good job in terms of the ride quality. The ride feels rather comfortable for a heavy-duty pickup truck. The performance is at par for the segment of the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD with the diesel engine. It takes only 6.7 seconds to reach from 0 to 60 mph which is quite impressive for the segment. The quarter-mile timing is also impressive as it takes 16.6 seconds to complete the quarter-mile run.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel is the fastest truck in the segment in the 0 to 60 mph sprint. The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Diesel Double Cab also shares the spot as it is powered by the same engine and is based on the same platform. The Silverado diesel is faster than the Sierra diesel with a very slight margin. The 2021 Ford F-250 Super Diesel Duty SuperCab has the most powerful engine on offer, yet it takes 8 seconds to reach 60 mph from a standstill. The 2021 RAM 2500 Crew Cab has the least powerful engine in the competition and is the slowest to complete the 0 to 60 mph sprint.

2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel Double Cab Fuel Economy

The fuel economy figures of the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel are not revealed by the GMC. Even the fuel economy for the regular gasoline engine of the GMC Sierra is not yet out officially. Being a heavy pickup truck, you can not expect high fuel economy numbers from the Sierra. The fuel economy also changes a lot based on the size of the truck and the terrains. The fuel economy on the road and off-road have a significant difference and the same goes for the load that it is carrying. Still, you can expect a pretty decent range from the massive 36 gallons fuel tank.

The 2021 Ford F-250 Super Diesel Duty SuperCab has the most fuel-efficient diesel engine in the segment. It manages to deliver a combined fuel economy of 14 miles which is good enough considering its capabilities. The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Diesel Double Cab which shares the same engine that powers the Sierra 2500HD manages to deliver 10 mpg in the city, 15 mpg on the highway, and 12 mpg of combined fuel economy. There should not be that much of a difference between the fuel economy of the Silverado 2500HD Diesel and the Sierra 2500HD Diesel. The 2021 RAM 2500 Crew Cab has the least fuel-efficient diesel engine and also comes with the smallest fuel tank in the segment.

2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel Double Cab Interior

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel comes with a surprisingly good quality interior for the segment. The space inside the interior is managed very well. The seats are comfortable and provide good support over long journeys. The driver sits high and gets very good visibility of the road ahead. The driving position is also comfortable. All the controls for the driver are designed ergonomically and can be reached from the driver’s seat without much hassle. The space between the driver and the co-passenger is generous too.

The rear seats of the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel are also practical. The legroom is sufficient for accommodating adults in front and rear seats at the same time. The second row is not as spacious as the first row but there is plenty of room in it and shoulder room is on the premium at the rear. One area where the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab really excels is the cargo area. It has a cargo-carrying capacity of 69.5 cubic feet which is really impressive for the segment.

How intuitive is the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel’s infotainment?

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab comes with an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The GMC provides a generous list of features to keep you entertained inside the cabin or at least they try well. The touchscreen is not of high quality and you can feel the quirks while using it. The system runs on a laggy user interface and the graphics are also not very impressive. The rivals offer a better interface for sure. The brightness is not an issue and the screen remains visible for most parts.

The other infotainment features include AM/FM stereo, Bluetooth audio streaming, Bluetooth phone, wireless Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay for seamless connectivity with smartphones, HD radio, SiriusXM radio, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot capable. 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel Double Cab Exterior

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel has a massive road presence. It looks like a real heavy-duty truck when you take it out on the road. The huge front grille looks big enough that small vehicles give you the way when they see you coming from behind. The LED headlights also combine well with the gigantic front grille and merge in the overall front design. The big side mirrors look great with the Sierra 2500HD design language. The vertical LED fog lamps and the front bumper complete the front look.

There is a considerable amount of gap between the wheels and the body of the car which makes it appealing among off-road lovers. It does not only look appealing to off-road lovers but is also a capable off-roader. The 10.2-inch ground clearance is clearly visible from the sides and it feels considerably above the ground. The black wheels look astonishing at the sides. The rear gets a long pair of vertical taillamps. The GMC and Sierra badging are also there at the back of the bed.

2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD diesel Double Cab Competition

2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel vs. 2021 Ford F-250 Super Diesel Duty SuperCab

The 2021 Ford F-250 Super Diesel Duty SuperCab is a strong contender in the segment and has always been a good competition for the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel. Still, the GMC Sierra comes out as a better option in many ways compared to its Ford counterparts. The more practical and comfortable interior, better performance, better fuel efficiency, more ground clearance, and more rugged look make the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel a better option between the two.

2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel vs. 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Diesel Double Cab

The 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD Diesel Double Cab and the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel are mechanically the same trucks. Both the trucks have a lot in common as both come from the General Motor family. But when it comes to choosing one of the two, then the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel comes out as a better choice with its more refined interior, comfortable ride, and better exterior design.

2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD Double Cab Diesel vs. 2021 RAM 2500 Crew Cab

The 2021 RAM 2500 Crew Cab is a good option for people who want a heavy-duty truck, but their priority is passenger comfort over practicality. The practicality of a pickup truck and the comfort of GMC makes it a better option over the rivals.
