GMC is known for making big muscular cars and is quite popular around the States. The Yukon is one of the hottest SUVs available in the GMC’s lineup. Although most of its parts are shared by the Chevrolet Tahoe, the GMC Yukon is still a lot more different than that. The 2021 model year went through a complete redesign that got sold like hotcakes and boomed in the SUV lineup. The new 2022 Yukon will roll out in the markets unchanged as of now. The GMC Yukon is a three-line family carrier with amazing off-road capabilities with an emphasis on modern technology. The towing capacity of this car is impressive too.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

Available in four trim levels with a starting base price of $51,995, the GMC Yukon is expected to be one the best cars in the market and will be very tough to beat. The main competitors of the 2022 GMC Yukon in the segment are the Chevrolet Tahoe, Ford Expedition, and Nissan Armada. Each one of them is equally appealing as compared to the others. It’s just a matter of time to see which car emerges as the best SUV for 2022.

2022 GMC Yukon Features

Just like the 2021 model, the 2022 Yukon will be offered in four trim levels with a starting MSRP of $51,995. The pricing of the new model would go up for obvious reasons. The SLE, SLT, and AT4 trims are powered by a 5.3L V8 engine that brings out 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft. of torque.

The Denali gets an exclusive 6.2L V8 engine that makes 420 hp and 460 lb-ft. of torque. All engines are paired to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The GMC Yukon trims are available in both rear-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive configurations.

We Recommend

We believe that the mid-range SLT trim would be sufficient for most buyers. The reason behind choosing this trim is that it is less costly than the base model and adds features such as ventilated front seats, leather upholstery, and good quality audio system.

2022 GMC Yukon Price

The prices of the 2022 GMC Yukon are expected to go up but not too expensive. The base model for the car will go up for $100 more regardless if you choose the standard RWD layout of the optional AWD layout. So, expect the SLE RWD trim to be priced around $51,995 and the SLE AWD trims at $54,995. The larger variant i.e the XL SLE RWD is expected to be priced around$54,695 and $57,695 for the XL SLE AWD variant. Meanwhile, the off-road-focused AT4 trim is expected to start at$66,095.

Now coming to the Denali trim which almost 60% of the customers preferred for the 2021 model is expected to be at least $69,695 which is$700 more than the previous version and likewise $600 more for the XL Denali than the previous version.

2022 GMC Yukon Release Date

The exact date for the 2022 GMC Yukon hasn’t been released so far. However, it is expected to be released soon this summer. The exact date will be published and we will continue to update the latest information.

2022 GMC Yukon Engine and Performance

The 2022 GMC Yukon will be available in three engine options. Most of the trims will carry a 5.3L naturally aspirated V8 engine with 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque which will be hooked to a 10-speed automatic transmission. The SLT trims will carry a 3.0L turbo-diesel six-cylinder engine with 277 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque regardless of the transmission. The engine rooster also includes a 6.2L naturally aspirated V8 engine with 420 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque which is available only on the Denali trims. The base 5.3L engine can accelerate from 0-60 in 7.1 seconds and a quarter-mile in 16.5 seconds.

Now replace the 5.3L engine with the 6.2L V8 engine in the Denali trim and it can do 0-60 in just 6 seconds which is impressive for an SUV. However, because of the size of the car, it affects the ride quality and handling, also the top speed and performance are a bit less as compared to its rivals.

0-60 MPH (seconds)

Quarter-Mile (seconds)

Here the 2022 Nissan Armada beats its competition in the 0-60 and the quarter-mile race because the car is light and nimble as compared to its rivals. The Yukon on the other hand is the slowest because of its heavy size which affects its performance.

2022 GMC Yukon Fuel Economy

The base engine 5.3L V8 for the RWD provides 16 MPG in the city and about 20 MPG on the highway. However, the AWD variant is a bit less efficient and gives 15 MPG in the city and 19 MPG on the highways. The bigger engine in the Denali trim gives 15 MPG in the city and 20 MPG on the highway for the RWD variant.

For the AWD variant, the MPG figures are reduced further by 1 MPG. The MPG figures are better than its previous models all thanks to its Dynamic Fuel Management System. This system allows the engine to turn off its cylinders when not required.

Range (City/Highway/Combined; Miles)

Although all of the 2022 GMC Yukon’s competitors hit the same ballpark in terms of the MPG figures, the 2022 Ford Expedition has an edge over others with a better range in the cities as well as in highways. So, if you are a buyer who is looking for better mileage then the 2022 Ford Expedition is a better choice for you.

2022 GMC Yukon Interior

The 2022 GMC Yukon sees a little interior change than its previous models. The materials used in the interior are more upscale.  The dashboard is covered in soft-touch material. All the buttons and controls are finished in chrome. The steering wheel is butter smooth and all the buttons are also arranged symmetrically. The space in the front is good so there are issues for taller folks getting in and out of the car.

The 2022 GMC Yukon can seat 8 people in three rows. The overall space on the car has been increased by 40%. Cloth seats come standard which can be upgraded to genuine leather. The seats are very comfortable for long rides. The armrest is comfortable and wide enough for both the driver and the passenger. Towards the back, there is sufficient space for three adults.

Third Row (HeadroomShoulder Room/Legroom; inches)

Trunk Capacity (cubic feet)

Towards the third row, there is space for your children as for adults space is a bit less but still more than most of the SUVs. Coming to the infotainment system, every GMC Yukon gets a 10.2 -inch floating infotainment display. The display is of excellent quality and there is no screen glare issue even in bright sunlight. The display includes HD and satellite radio with seven USB and auxiliary ports.

It also has Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in its tech suite along with wireless device charging. A dual-display rear media system will keep the passengers entertained. A 9 speaker BOSE sound system will take the party to the roads. Overall the entire interior layout of the car is excellent but could be better in terms of its premiums. The GMC Yukon kills the competition when it comes to interior space. Because the size of the car is very huge, it offers sufficient passenger space. Apart from this it also has a larger cargo trunk as compared to its rivals. Some notable interior features of the 2022 GMC Yukon are:

  • 10.2-inch floating touchscreen
  • HD and satellite radio
  • Seven USB ports
  • Nine-speaker Bose sound system
  • Wireless device charging
  • Wireless Apply CarPlay and Android Auto
  • The dual-display rear media system
  • Leather upholstery
  • Heated power front seats
  • Power-adjustable heated steering wheel
  • Panoramic sunroof

2022 GMC Yukon Exterior

The 2021 model year of the GMC Yukon received a massive change in terms of the interior and exterior styling along with some advanced features. The 2022 model year has the same sense of style as that of the 2021 model year. The Denali trim adds LED headlamps and taillights with a large chrome grille. The chrome grille on the front is actually satin chrome that adds to its life. There are approximately 10,000 individual chrome parts used in the car overall that are claimed by GMC itself.

The grille has a very bold look and is one the meanest looking front grilles on a car ever. The AT4 trim changes the chrome grille to black and matte black. It also includes a red tow hook in the front and a skid plate with an angle of 31 degrees that make off-roading easier. It also gets 20-inch tires that provide optimum grip on the road as well as on no roads.

2022 GMC Yukon Safety

The National Crash Test Agency NHTSA keeps a safety record of all the cars that roll on the streets in the US. For this, NHTSA conducts crash tests to determine the crashworthiness of the said vehicle. The 2022 GMC Yukon is yet to be crash-tested by NHTSA.But for the 2021 model year, NHTSA rates it an overall safety rating of 4 stars for its crashworthiness. This rating is assigned based on the other crash tests. For example, the 2021 GMC Yukon gets a 4-star rating for its overall frontal crash protection. IIHS is another trusted road safety organization associated with keeping a safety check on all cars on the streets.

Unlike NHTSA, IIHS is an independent private organization that conducts its own set of crash tests for the said car’s safety. The 2022 GMC Yukon was not one of their crash test subjects. Even the 2021 model year was not tested by the IIHS because the price of the car is very high and becomes difficult for an independent organization to perform crash tests for the same.

Some of the safety features of the 2022 GMC Yukon includes anti-lock brakes, stability, traction control, trailer-sway control, hill start assist front and rear parking sensors, front knee airbags, front second and third-row airbags along with full-length side curtain airbags, and active front head restraints. It also includes nine cameras for better outward vision. Some of the standout safety features of the 2022 GMC Yukon in a nutshell:

  • High-Definition surround vision camera

2022 GMC Yukon Competition

2022 GMC Yukon vs 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe

Coming from the same family genes, the 2022 GMC Yukon and the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe have many things in common like the powertrain, chassis, etc. but still different. The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe has a more luxurious interior with more passenger space. So, if you can pay the extra price tag then the 2022 GMC Yukon is the better option to go.

2022 GMC Yukon vs 2022 Ford Expedition

The 2022 Ford Expedition is a direct competitor to the 2022 GMC Yukon from Ford Motors. The 2022 Ford Expedition is a subtle car like the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe with less price tag. It can do what the 2022 GMC Yukon can do but will not provide you the luxury just like the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. So, the 2022 Ford Expedition can be a good choice if you don’t want the luxury and want to save some bucks.

2022 GMC Yukon vs 2022 Nissan Armada

The 2022 Nissan Armada is one of the most practical cars in the large SUV segment. The engine performance along with its speed is also a plus point for the 2022 Nissan Armada. The most important thing is that the 2022 Nissan Armada did not get a full redesign nor did the 2021 model year of the car. The 2022 GMC Yukon is more likely to be loved because of the looks of the car. So, the 2022 GMC Yukon is a better option if not the most practical option.

2022 GMC Yukon Final Verdict

The 2022 GMC Yukon has carried the styling from the completely redesigned 2021 model year but with more features. The 2022 GMC Yukon gives everything that you may need. If you are ready to pay the extra bucks, you won’t have any issues as it proves its worth and is a masterpiece. GMC did not take any chances and looks like it has killed its competition from what it seems now.
