The American automobile market has plenty of options when it comes to sedans. Still, most people seek a car with a stylish outlook, an efficient engine, a modern interior, and a good amount of safety features without burning a hole in their pocket. That’s where the Honda Civic comes; it has been the key player in the sedan segment for more than four decades. And the company has always been serious about the 2016 Civic, its best-selling vehicle. To continue to attract profits in the upcoming years, Honda has introduced the tenth-generation Civic this year with some critical changes.

2016 Honda Civic Dashboard

The 2016 Honda Civic has been redesigned inside and out. It comes packed with more standard features and better cargo capacity. You’ll also never have to worry about entertainment or storage space during a getaway with your friends. Coming down to pricing, the 2016 Honda Civic is available for sale for $19,515 and it competes with the likes of the Hyundai Elantra, Ford Focus Sedan, and Volkswagen Jetta.

2016 Honda Civic Sedan Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

The 2016 Honda Civic is now built on the new Compact Global Platform. As a result, the sedan now boasts a larger body and a longer wheelbase. That being said, it translates to a roomier cabin with 97.8 ft3 of total passenger volume (3.2 cu-ft more than its predecessor). You get a practical cabin built with decent quality materials and a contemporary layout to make the cabin look upmarket and roomy. The dashboard layout is functional yet modern.

Controls are ergonomically placed and are easily accessible even while driving. Moreover, the dashboard is covered in soft-touch surfaces and comes with metal accents. Also, as standard, you get a urethane multi-function steering wheel, but you can upgrade to a leather-trimmed steering wheel. You also get a power sunroof from EX trim onwards. What remains constant is the 3 interior upholstery color options offered by Honda.

2016 Honda Civic Rear Seats

Coming to the seating space, you have plenty of headroom and legroom on offer, but the features depend on the trim you buy. The lower trims come standard with manually-adjustable bucket seats but as you step up the trim ladder you get power-adjustable bucket seats with adjustable head restraints and a heating function. Similar to the front, the rear row comes with sufficient headroom and legroom. Coming to the features, the base trims come standard with gray, ivory, or black fabric seats, with leather upholstery as an option.

All the sedans in the competition can seat five, but the amount of interior seating space varies. Honda Civic comes with the largest and most stylish cabin this year. Like the German-made Volkswagen Jetta, the Civic feels top-notch in every aspect. Elantra has the second-largest cabin, but it has the best legroom up front. Jetta, on the other hand, comes with a more balanced cabin.

2016 Honda Civic Infotainment

The entry-level 2016 Civic LX arrives with a 5-inch multimedia screen, a 4-speaker audio system, Bluetooth, radio, Siri Eyes Free support, a USB port, and a speed-sensitive volume control system. The EX trim includes a larger 7-inch touchscreen display with HondaLink interface, an 8-speaker audio system, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Pandora Internet Radio, and two USB ports.

2016 Honda Civic Infotainment System

Honda Link provides crisp graphics and a user-friendly interface. However, the base trim infotainment system comes with button controls and that may take some time to get used to. The EX-T and EX-L trims come with SiriusXM satellite and HD Radio. The top-line Touring model comes standard with a 10-speaker premium audio system and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

2016 Honda Civic Cargo Capacity

2016 Honda Civic now comes with a larger cargo trunk than in previous model years. As standard, you get about 15.1 cu-ft of cargo space, good for storing the bags and suitcases of all five passengers.

2016 Honda Civic Cargo Space

The cargo opening is now larger and the floor is low enough to allow easy loading of larger and heavier items. If you still need additional room for loading larger and heavier items, you can fold down the rear seats.

Volkswagen Jetta has the longest body length among all sedans in the group. And that means it has a larger cargo trunk. Elantra and Focus have slightly lower cargo space but the difference isn’t huge.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

At the front, you get a mobile cubby in the lower dashboard, two cup holders, a multifunctional storage compartment under the armrest, and a glovebox on the front passenger side. At the rear, you get two cup holders, two seatback pockets, and an under-seat storage box.

2016 Honda Civic Creature Comforts

The entry-level LX comes with black, ivory, or gray fabric-covered seats, manually adjustable front bucket seats with driver height adjustment, and automatic climate control. The Civic EX adds a power sunroof, keyless ignition and entry, and 60/40-split folding rear seatbacks.

The EX-T adds remote start, heated front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control. EX-L adds leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat. The flagship Touring model comes standard with perforated leather seats, power-adjustable front seats, heated rear seats, a wireless phone charger, and a navigation system with bilingual voice support.

Verdict

While the market has plenty of affordable sedans, very few of them are well-equipped and built like the 2016 Honda Civic. This year, Civic got a facelift and a redesigned cabin. We must say, Honda has done an admirable job. The cabin incorporates a sleek layout and feels upmarket. Besides that, the infotainment system and cargo capacity have seen a significant improvement. So, if you are looking for a sedan that provides a modern cabin as well as a stylish outlook and impeccable safety, the Civic tops our list.
