The Honda Civic is a bread and butter car for the average American and has been the same for eternity. The sedan has seen 6 generations already while registering upwards of 325,000 in sales last year. It is priced at $20,995 and competes against pretty tough rivals like the Toyota Corolla, the Kia Forte, and the Hyundai Elantra. The line-up spans four trims and offers a variety of choices, especially inside the cabin.

The cabin of the 2020 Civic is pretty good for the people and has ample cubby spaces to store stuff for long trips. The seats are comfortable and can easily fit four people for long trips. Apart from this, the infotainment system entails all the latest gadgetry and technology to make lives easy. Let’s take a closer look at the interior and how comfortable the cabin is.

How comfortable is the 2020 Honda Civic?

Inside, the Japanese sedan justifies its price tag with the materials in use. The Honda 2020 Civic starts off with soft-touch materials at the top of the door panel and on the armrest. The overall design is smooth and includes a chrome-ish panel to break the black monotone. The dashboard carries on with a similar treatment of soft-touch materials. There’s a black trim spanning across the dashboard which culminates into a gloss black trim on top of the AC vents. The materials and the designs get better as the trims get more expensive.

The center console houses the infotainment screen and other media controls. Below are the AC controls which have good tactile feedback on the knobs. To add to the visuals, the controls are surrounded by a chrome trim. Following that is the gear shifter that controls the CVT underneath. Around the base of the shifter are the buttons for sport mode, economy mode, and the electric parking brake. There are 3 interior upholstery color options on offer with the 2020 Civic.

The seats come upholstered in cloth, as standard, but can be upgraded to leather upholstery in the higher trims. The design is very simple and doesn’t carry much jazz. The support is good via strong bolsters and an accommodating design. The seats are manually adjustable on the base trim while electronic adjustability is reserved for the higher trims. The rear seats carry on a very similar design language but offer good thigh support for utmost comfort.

All the sedans here sit five, but the Kia Forte takes in the victory for having the most cabin space. At least on paper. The Toyota and the Honda share the same passenger volume, which is lower than the Hyundai. The Elantra gets the most headroom up front for adults to fit in comfortably. This is doubled with comfortable legroom which is on par with the competition.

How good is the 2020 Honda Civic’s infotainment system?

In the center of the 2020 Honda Civic’s cabin sits a 5-inch colored infotainment system. The screen might feel a bit small for most but for the average commuter, it is a good unit. The 5-inch infotainment screen brings in all the necessary connectivity features like AM/FM/SiriusXM, Bluetooth, and voice commands. There are physical shortcut buttons around the init to make navigation easier. This infotainment system comes paired with a four-speaker setup for audio needs.

Upgrading to the Sport trim replaces this unit with a 7-inch one that brings in crisp colors and animations. The upgraded infotainment screen carries one knob and integrates all other controls. It also adds in Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to make connections seamless. The audio system also sees an upgrade to an eight-speaker audio system with much better quality at higher volumes. If one shells out more $ for the Touring trim, they get a built-in navigation system and an upgraded 10-speaker audio system. Some of the most highlighting features include:

  • A 5-/7-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Bluetooth
  • Voice commands
  • 4-/8-/10-speaker sound system
  • AM/FM/SiriusXM
  • Android Auto
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Navigation

What are the creature comforts in the 2020 Honda Civic?

The 2020 Honda Civic is a pretty simple car with a no-frills character and low maintenance costs, making it one of the best-selling bets in the segment. This no-frills attitude does not compromise on the creature comforts of the Civic and gets it everything that its rivals offer. As standard, the sedan gets quite a lot of features including automatic climate control, a four-speaker sound system, a 5-inch central display screen, and the Honda Sensing safety package.

Updating the trim levels gives an upgrade to the infotainment system, as discussed earlier, and adds in 60/40-split folding rear seatbacks, keyless ignition and entry, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, a sunroof, dual-zone automatic climate control, a power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, a power-adjustable passenger seat, and Honda's LaneWatch blind-spot camera.

What is the cargo capacity on offer?

The trunk of the 2020 Honda Civic has a wide opening and is very deep to accommodate more luggage. For utility, the boot also has a tab to fold down the rear seats.

The sedan gets a mat in the cabin for visual purposes and to prevent dust from accumulating. Under the cargo area, there is a spare tire for added utility.

The one area which disappoints the buyer is the amount of boot space on offer in the Civic. Although the opening is wide, the overall area is way lower than what the competitors have to offer. The other Japanese, the Corolla, gets nearly 10% more capacity. The Koreans steal the game away, with the Kia Forte being able to swallow the most luggage.

What are the other storage spaces inside?

There’s an appreciable amount of cubby spaces inside the 2020 Honda Civic. The door panels come with massive bottle holders and a small cubby with them. In the center console, there is a two-tier cubby space that also includes various connectivity outlets. The center armrest has a good amount of space, and the same is with the front cup holders.

Is the interior of the 2020 Honda Civic luxurious and opulent enough?

The 2020 Honda Civic is, again, a simple car with segment-necessitated features and creature comforts. Though the feature list for the base trim might be pretty dry, the other trims get a very well-thought list of many creature comforts as discussed before. The Civic’s line-up provides a lot to the customer and is definitely worth the asking price.
