One owner has reported that when the dealer removed the inspection sticker from the window, it was revealed that it had gouges from either manufacturing or shipping. The window was promised to be replaced but further action was not taken.
Safety problems:
One owner reported that the forward collision avoidance system gets engaged for no reason. The owner also reported that the car braked for no reason when the owner was at a traffic junction. The same issue was reported by several owners.
Multiple owners have reported that the cruise control intermittently shuts off and does not re-engage unless you restart the car. In fact, this is one of the most common problems reported about this car.
Another common problem area seems to be that the forward-collision warning system brakes even when there is no obstruction upfront. It is ironic that a system that is developed to prevent accidents may be the cause for one.
One owner reported that the airbags have been displaying a warning message saying that there is a problem with the supplemental restraint. This problem has been reported by other people on online forums according to the owner.
The Lane departure warning system on the car has also proved to be an area filled with problems. The car jerks itself from side to side and goes beyond the control of the owner.

All the complaints that have been discussed above have been regarding the 2022 model itself. Honda can definitely do a better job in terms of the recalls but we understand that for a car that sells that these many units, it would be more feasible to solve issues on a case-by-case basis. However, several issues still remain in the car and some of them have been extremely serious and concerning safety. For this reason, we can conclude that there has not been a sufficient amount of recalls to fix all of the problems of this car.
Which model year of the Honda Civic hatchback should you avoid?
The current generation of the Honda Civic hatchback has just been introduced and the initial year has not been very smooth sailing. Usually, every car has a larger number of complaints in some of its initial years and the same applies to this car. We do hope that Honda gets on top of the active safety features and is able to provide some assurance to owners that have been affected by problems so far. If we have to pick one model year to avoid, then it would definitely have to be the 2016 model year.
