The 2022 Honda Civic sedan has been introduced with updated specs and a complete redesign this year. It scores a reliability rating of 84/100 from J.D power in their reliability tests. Having received a rating of 82 and 86 in the Quality & Reliability and Driving Experience respectively, it clearly showcases its mettle in the segment.

Moreover, the Honda Civic 2022 features to be one fine compact sedan with decent aftersales support and a pretty affordable 5-year cost of ownership of just $26,600. The J.D. Power rating is also amongst the best at 84/100 against the rivals such as Hyundai Elantra, the Subaru Impreza, and the Toyota Corolla.

2022 Honda Civic Problems & Recalls

Though the 2022 Honda Civic recalls stay at 0 to date but it has some noticeable problems and issues tagged to its stance that counts to 40 overall. While it is too early for the 2022 model year cars to be judged, we do get a fair idea of the quality control issues from the manufacturer. Some of them have been mentioned below:

Electrical issues:

  • Velocity Speed Control: The 2022 Civic tends to have issues with its undesirable acceleration and stalling at any time due to malfunctioning of its vehicle speed control.
  • Exterior Lighting: The 2022 Civic sedan will lose its automatic high-beam as soon as one goes for the automatic cruise control dynamics.

Mechanical issues

  • Service Brake: The Civic loses its brake efficiency and the brake pedal gets very stiff and hard which may affect you at the time of upheavals.
  • Steering: The Civic 2022 has steering problems as it makes the driver hold the steering very tight whenever the lane-keep assist functions simultaneously.

Safety assistance issues:

  • Lane Departure Warning: Many people have reported the lane departure warning in the new Civic to fail and not detect the lanes. The complainants have stated that the steering wheel locked up and did not let the driver control the steering. This issue has caused the car to collide with objects in proximity.
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance: People have reported the forward collision avoidance system to malfunction. This has also caused the cruise control to disable and cause unintended acceleration. This causes the car to accelerate unintentionally and causes a potential safety hazard.

What model year of the Honda Civic to avoid?

The Honda Civic’s current generation is less than a year in old in the American market. We cannot gauge the extent of niggles the new car would have. We do give the current generation the benefit of doubt given how well a reception it had in the market. Amongst the older generation models, the 2017 Civic is better to be avoided with plenty of issues and 4 recalls.

Should you buy the 2022 Honda Civic?

As per the current scenario, the 2022 Honda Civic sedan has minor problems that hardly dent its overall image. That being said, it comes as one of the most reliable family sedans in the space, without a doubt. Though only time will tell how the sedan will stand against the test of time, in our opinion, the 2022 Civic shall do well in the long run.
