The Honda CR-V is one of the most popular crossovers in its segment and rightfully so - one of the most accomodating and versatile compact SUVs. Entering its fifth generation, Honda has redesigned the 2017 CR-V now comes with an even more spacious and space-efficient interior – the roomiest CR-V cabin yet. The all-new CR-V boasts a top-class interior space, best-in-class rear-seat legroom, a more voluminous cargo area, and a dive-down 60/40 split rear seat. Inside, the cabin features upscale amenities, premium accents, and available leather seating in EX-L and Touring models. With 105.9 cubic feet of passenger cabin volume, and a cargo volume of 75.8 cu-ft. with the rear seats down, the CR-V offers impressive space and comfort. The 2017 CR-V has gained more than two inches of additional legroom.

2017 Honda CR-V Dashboard

The CR-V's interior color palette is sophisticated and is offered in black, gray, or ivory color – fabric in the LX and EX; leather in the EX-L and Touring. The new-generation CR-V offers the latest in-vehicle connectivity and audio performance - for the first time, the CR-V's infotainment system is compatible with the Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. With a 1.5L turbocharged inline-4 engine that offers adequate performance to cruise comfortably with your family, this all-new CR-V is offered in four distinct trims, each crafted to serve your specific needs. The 2017 Honda CR-V starts at $25,020 and competes against the likes of Ford Escape, Mazda CX-5, and Volkswagen Tiguan.

"One of the Honda CR-V’s calling cards has always been its smartly packaged interior, and the 2017 model takes that to the next level."- Cars.com

2017 Honda CR-V Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

The new 2017 CR-V's interior design has been carefully crafted to be in line with modern times. The dashboard features a pretty attractive design, offers an intuitive interface, and has handsome new instrumentation. Buttons and dials are within easy reach of the driver and the layout is quite ergonomic. The CR-V's interior space has improved, even though this redesigned model rides on a similar wheelbase as the outgoing model. The choices of materials are also quite decent, especially in the higher trims. Hard plastics are not in abundance, which is a good thing. Build quality of these materials is also admirable, along with the fit and finish.

The 2017 CR-V has a larger interior than ever before, offering an additional 2 inches of rear legroom. Design features like sleekly styled front seatbacks help give rear passengers a spacious feeling. WE like the new one-motion dive-down 60/40 split rear seat design, which folds completely flat. The CR-V interior is incredibly versatile with room for five people and a substantial amount of cargo.

2017 Honda CR-V Front Seats

Speaking of materials, both the CR-V base and EX trim come with a very basic array of materials, such as cloth seat trim, urethane gear shifter material, cloth door trim insert, and metal-look interior accents. The EX-L and Touring offer more luxury by adding leather seats, leatherette door trim insert, leather gear-shifter material, chrome interior accents, and also a leather-wrapped steering wheel. Moreover, all the trims get a manual tilt and telescoping steering column.

As for the seats, the base trim offers a 6-way manually-adjustable driver’s seat and a 4-way passenger’s seat. The EX upgrades to a 12-way heated power-adjustable driver’s seat with 4-way power lumbar while the EX-L and Touring also add 2-position seat memory. Despite what it says on paper, the seats are pretty comfortable and supportive, even during long journeys. Visibility out front is pretty good, and finding the perfect driving position is a breeze.

2017 Honda CR-V Rear Seats

The 2017 Honda CR-V offers tons of space up front, but the rear row gets plenty of room as well. Three people can easily fit at the back, without any issues. Even taller passengers won’t have much to complain about. As mentioned earlier, interior space and practicality are key selling points for the CR-V.

Both the CR-V and the CX-5 offer the most spacious rear row, while both the Escape and Tiguan fall short on legroom at the back. Moreover, the CX-5 slightly surpasses the CR-V in terms of total passenger volume. Nonetheless, both offer plenty of cabin space.

2017 Honda CR-V Infotainment Features

The 2017 Honda CR-V base LX model comes with a very basic 5-inch infotainment system, but theEX and higher models feature a 7” WVGA high-resolution touchscreen at the center of the dashboard. The touchscreen is decent, but not the most fluid or intuitive. It can be a bit clunky at times and often might not respond to your touches unless you apply a bit of force. The system could have been better, however, it is livable.

2017 Honda CR-V Infotainment System

The base CR-V LX trim only comes with Bluetooth, Pandora, RDS, USB ports, and 12V power outlets. However, from the EX-trim onwards, you get HondaLink, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, SiriusXM radio, customizable features, and more. The Touring also adds Honda's satellite-linked navigation system with voice recognition, HD digital traffic, Song by Voice capability, HD radio, and turn-by-turn directions.

As for the audio, the base trim comes with a 160W 4-speaker sound system while the EX upgrades to a 180W 6-speaker sound system. However, the best system is reserved for the Touring trim, which gets a 330W 9-speaker sound system with a subwoofer.

Key infotainment features

  • 7” WVGA touchscreen
  • Bluetooth
  • USB ports
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • SiriusXM radio
  • HD radio
  • Honda satellite-linked navigation
  • Song by Voice
  • 9-speaker sound system

2017 Honda CR-V Cargo Space

The all-new CR-V's redesigned cargo area boasts more space than the previous model. Behind the rear seats, there is a massive 39.2 cubic feet of cargo volume, which should allow you to store whatever you might want to fit inside. If you want even more space, you can fold down the 60/40-split rear seats to open up a massive 75.8 cubic feet of cargo space. The opening is wide with a fairly low load height which makes it easy to load and unload items. Furthermore, the cargo floor is also height adjustable.

2017 Honda CR-V Cargo Space

The 2017 CR-V has a lift-in height that is among the lowest in the class. The flat load floor is nearly 10 inches longer than before. Underfloor storage is available just behind the rear seats.

The CR-V easily beats out all of its rivals by a significant margin when it comes to cargo capacity. Even with the rear seats folded, none of the rivals even come close to the massive amount of cargo volume offered by the CR-V.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

As with most crossover SUVs, the 2017 Honda CR-V's interior has a wide range of storage features including a newly designed center console. Open the tray at the front of the console which is ideal for your smartphone or small items.  There are two large cupholders that are within easy reach of the driver and front passenger. There's a sizeable locking glovebox up front and a sliding, flip-up center armrest.

All trims include a 12-volt power outlet at the front of the console. A single 1.0-amp USB port is included inside the console on LX, while EX and above trims have two USB ports inside the console along with an additional pair of 2.5-amp USB ports on the rear of the console for use by rear-seat passengers.

2017 Honda CR-V Interior Features and Creature Comforts

The base trim isn’t stacked with creature comforts, but it still includes features like manually-adjustable seats, remote keyless entry, automatic air conditioning, cloth seat trim, manual tilt, telescoping steering column, and more.

The EX adds a heated driver’s seat with 12-way power adjustability and 4-way power lumbar, dual-zone automatic climate control, cruise control, push-button start, and more. The EX-L carries over these features and adds leather interior upholstery; along with leather seats and a leather steering wheel. It also adds 2-position memory for the driver’s seat.

Finally, the Touring trim adds proximity cargo access, voice-activated dual-zone automatic climate control, simulated wood instrument panel, navigation, and more.

2017 Honda CR-V Interior Verdict

The all-new 2017 Honda CR-V ups the antes when it comes to interior style and space. With more upscale amenities inside the cabin, this new generation CR-V's interior has improved vastly in comparison to the previous model. It blends affordability and practicality in such a seamless package, that it has become the go-to choice for most buyers. It easily surpasses its rivals with the class-leading cargo ratings, and it also offers one of the most spacious cabins in its class. Furthermore, the higher trims offer a plethora of standard features and tech while the choices of materials are also excellent for the price. Overall, Honda has nailed it once again with the 2017 Honda CR-V.
