The 2022 Honda CR-V will be a carryover model, with prices starting at $25,750 for the base LX trim. The model year 2023, however, is going to see the next generation of the popular SUV from Honda. The 2023 Honda CR-V brings new updates with all-new features, a longer wheelbase, and a stretched front end. According to spy shots and rendered photographs, there's a new honeycomb design grille that is massive and looks gorgeous.

The bonnet is also revised as it seems flatter than the current variant. Then, there are all-new slimmer LED headlamps and horizontal tail lamps, which look phenomenal. According to rumors, buyers will also get a new hybrid petrol engine with all-wheel drive, which will be more fuel-efficient than the current CR-V Hybrid, and the 1.6L turbocharged engine would be carried forward too, along with a new alloy wheel design and increased tire size.

2022 Honda CR-V Engine and Performance

"The hybrid setup relies on a 2.0-liter inline-4." - Motor Trend

The 2022 Honda CR-V is going to carry forward with the 1.5L Turbo engine that produces 190 horsepower and 179 lb-ft torque. It is mated with a CVT transmission and offers choices of both FWD and AWD drive types. The hybrid 2.0L engine is mated with two electric motors and produces 212 horsepower.

The 1.5L Turbo engine on the CR-V pushes it from 0 to 60 mph in 9.3 seconds, which is nowhere close to being called fast. Although, there's plenty of refinement and the engine does not feel stressed in most situations. For better performance during launches, opt for the hybrid engine. It offers slightly better acceleration and amazing fuel economy.

The Honda CR-V produces the most power, while Chevrolet Equinox produces the most torque. But the Chevy trades power for more torque at the lower end of the curve. This shows in the acceleration and fuel economy too, with Honda being more fuel-efficient than the Chevy, but also slower. The Nissan and Ford compact SUVs offer the exact same figures in terms of power.

2022 Honda CR-V Fuel Economy

6.0/10

"The EPA estimates the gas-only model will earn up to 28 mpg in the city and 34 on the highway. " - Car And Driver

We can expect the 2022 CR-V's fuel efficiency to be the same as the outgoing model. The 1.5L Turbo inline-4 engine returns 28 MPG city, 34 MPG highway, and a combined 30 MPG. With the 2.0L hybrid engine, it manages to return 40 MPG city, 35 MPG highway, and a combined 38 MPG.

The Honda CR-V returns similar fuel efficiency as its rivals, despite trading off class-leading economy for the smallest gas tank. It is, in fact, one of the best offerings in the segment for its gas mileage. However, the 2022 Chevrolet Equinox equips itself with a 14.9-gallon tank yet fails to deliver the best range. That position is taken over by the Ford Escape.

2022 Honda CR-V Interior

9.0/10

"A stylish and spacious interior creates a cool and comfortable environment in the CR-V." - Car And Driver

The interior of the 2022 Honda CR-V is not expected to get any changes. The base LX variant gets standard air conditioning system, manually adjustable seats without ventilated seats, and a heating option. The upper trim will get leather upholstery with power-adjustable heated and ventilated seats with a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The upper trim feels more premium with lots of luxury touches. Moonroof comes only in upper trims which makes the cabin airier and less claustrophobic. The seats offer much comfort with an adequate amount of legroom, knee room, under-thigh support, and enough shoulder room. The upper trim offers ventilated seats for the driver and front passenger.

2022 Honda CR-V Exterior

"Entering its sixth model year since going on sale, the 2022 Honda CR-V is expected to arrive without any changes." - CarsDirect

The exterior of the 2022 Honda CR-V will remain unchanged. However, a facelifted model has been spotted with minor changes, which include new slimmer LED headlamps, longer wheelbase, new grille with a honeycomb design, new machine cut alloy wheels, and a new front bumper with new fog lamps housing as well.

The 2023 CR-V gets updated on the rear also. It gets new horizontal tail lamps with all LED elements, which look fabulous. The rear spoiler also seems to be new with a stop lamp integrated. Currently, the SUV gets moonroof as optional for the mid and top variants. The Honda CR-V is lighter than its rivals, making it more fuel-efficient. Moreover, it has a shorter wheelbase, which makes it more agile and fun to drive. Overall, the 2022 Honda CR-V is a handsome vehicle to drive, with eye-catching styling that turns head on the road.

2022 Honda CR-V Safety

9.0/10

" We expect the list of standard and optional features to remain the same for the upcoming model year." - CarsDirect

The 2022 Honda CR-V is not yet rated in any safety ratings. Anyhow, Honda has loaded all the basic and advanced safety features in the CR-V. NHTSA gave the 2021 CR-V an overall rating of 5 stars. Even IIHS awarded it the ‘Top Safety Pick’ title because it managed to get a ‘Good’ rating in almost every crash-test category.

CR-V comes with airbags for all the occupants, which include front and rear side curtain airbags too. The CR-V also comes standard with Anti-lock brakes, EBD, Traction control, cruise control, lane-keeping assist, tire pressure monitor, lane departure warning, and other driver-assistance features present across all the trims.

Some of the notable safety features of the 2022 Honda CR-V are:

  • Six airbags
  • 4-wheel Antilock Braking system
  • automatic high beams
  • Post-collision safety system

2022 Honda CR-V Competition

9.0/10

Honda CR-V vs. Chevrolet Equinox

Equinox looks better than the Honda CR-V. Apart from this, the CR-V has a better fuel economy and a better interior. The CR-V produces more power with the hybrid engine and its transmission is also better than the Equinox. Both the cars are expected to score well in the crash tests and have all the necessary safety features. The Equinox being pocket-friendly has an advantage here.

2022 Chevrolet Equinox

Honda CR-V vs. Nissan Rogue

The CR-V has a more attractive design language than the Nissan Rogue. The Rogue has only one engine option whereas the CR-V has two engine options. The CR-V has better fuel economy and a powerful engine too. That being said, with better engine and fuel economy, it has a less price tag than Rogue and is hence our recommendation.

2021 Nissan Rogue

Honda CR-V vs. Ford Escape

The Ford Escape is a better-looking car than CR-V and has more trims to choose from. But the top trims are not value-for-money as they lack features compared to that of CR-V’s top trim. The CR-V produces more power than Escape and returns better fuel economy too. Interior quality is also at a low in the Ford Escape, while the latter offers a much better interior.

2021 Ford Escape

2022 Honda CR-V Final Verdict

The CR-V has been a dominating com[act SUV which gives tough competition to its rivals. Even though there will be no changes this time, the 2023 CR-V is rumored to get a new hybrid engine that will produce more power and torque than the previous generation, and this engine will return a better fuel economy too.

It will get new slimmer LED headlamps, new fog lamp housing, a new bigger grille, and new LED horizontal tail lamps. The 2023 Honda CR-V is rumored to have changes on the interior too. According to the spy shots, it also gets a longer wheelbase, a flatter front end, and new machine-cut alloy wheels. So keep your fingers crossed on this one.
