Ever since the first generation launched back in 2006, the Ridgeline has always focused on finding the perfect balance between a pickup truck and SUV, aimed at customers looking to transition out of smaller models and want the practicality of a pickup truck without any typical pickup characteristics like average ride quality and dynamics. The second generation continues that trend and shares most of its mechanicals with the latest Honda Pilot. Marketed as a lifestyle and family-friendly choice, the Ridgeline gets a spacious and well-equipped cabin that we’re used to on modern Honda offerings. However, it is limited to just one bed size and is exclusively available with the crew cab configuration. The 3.5L V-6 engine is included as standard along with standard all-wheel-drive and a 9-speed automatic transmission.
2022 Honda Ridgeline Dashboard
Some notable rivals in the mid-size pickup truck segment include the Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger, and the all-new Nissan Frontier. All the features and the potent powertrain has made the 2022 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab a lot more expensive than its rivals with a starting price of $37,715. However, it justifies its higher price tag with a potent V-6 powertrain and standard all-wheel drive.
2022 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort
Like the Honda Pilot, it's based on, the Ridgeline carves out a surprising amount of space on the inside. The cabin gets the usual Honda design with several functional touches and is one of the nicer ones in the segment. After taking on customer feedback, several features were added last year including a physical volume knob and more switchgear. Since the Ridgeline is only available with the crew cab body style, both rows get plenty of space for five passengers. The higher price tag is also justified with several creature comforts and features included as standard.
2022 Honda Ridgeline Front Seats
The familiar dashboard design continues with the infotainment system placed in the middle and the climate controls getting a separate layer below it. The shift by wire system also liberates plenty of space on the center console for cupholders and a clever smartphone tray. As usual, build quality is impressive and silver trims are provided to break the monotony. Honda has provided individual armrests for the front passengers, which has liberated more space for center console storage. The red start-stop button and 4-spoke steering wheel are typical Honda design elements like the rest of the lineup. All the controls are within easy reach of the driver and the recently added volume knob is also placed on the left.
Unlike a traditional pickup truck, the seats are placed lower than usual, making it easy to get into the cabin. Once inside, all the controls fall easily to hand, and finding a comfortable driving position will only take a few minutes. Even the cloth seats of the lower trims provide plenty of support and cushioning, similar to an SUV. Power adjustability and seat heating are also available on the higher trim levels.
Thanks to its unibody construction, the Ridgeline is by far and away, the most spacious pickup truck in the segment. Even larger adults will be comfortable at the back. However, the middle passenger doesn't get a dedicated headrest and the folding armrest makes longer journeys uncomfortable. For cabin storage, the rear seats can be folded up in a 60/40 configuration.
To improve comfort, the front passengers get individual armrests instead of the usual central unit, liberating more space in the middle for storage. Honda also includes tri-zone automatic climate control as standard which cools the cabin effectively. The rear passengers get separate vents and a climate zone. The RTL and higher trims also get a powered sunroof.

As the only pickup truck here with unibody construction, the Honda Ridgeline manages to carve out a lot more space than its traditional competitors and is available exclusively with the crew cab configuration. The latest Nissan Frontier is not far behind, while both the Ford Ranger and Chevrolet Colorado trail the pack even in the crew cab configuration. The Honda Ridgeline also feels well built for the price with high-quality materials.
2022 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab Infotainment
The 2022 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab gets a run-of-the-mill 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system running their latest software. A separate volume knob and some shortcut buttons are provided for easier access. While the system looks modern and user-friendly, it's not the smoothest interface around and some lag sets in when browsing the colorful menus. Honda also includes all the latest features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, Bluetooth connectivity, and a 7-speaker sound system with a subwoofer.

Higher trims also get SiriusXM satellite radio, HD radio, built-in navigation with voice commands, and an upgraded audio system with an additional speaker. A unique addition with the Ridgeline is the truck-bed audio system on the RTL-E model with six in-bed drivers that use the bed as a speaker.

2022 Honda Ridgeline Cargo Space

Unfortunately, the focus on interior space has limited cargo capacity on the Honda Ridgeline. The Ridgeline is also limited to just one bed size, while almost all of its rivals offer a larger bed option with the crew cab configuration. Even when comparing standard bed sizes, the Ford Ranger is the most practical option here, followed by the Nissan Frontier and Chevrolet Colorado.
Additional Interior Storage Spaces
Like most Honda offerings, the cabin is packed with clever storage areas like the ergonomically placed cupholders at the front, a neat and deep center console storage, sizeable door pockets, and a sunglass holder. The rear passengers also get a set of cupholders and front seatback pockets.
2022 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab Creature Comforts
Since the Ridgeline focuses a lot more on comfort and features than the traditional pickup truck, even the base models get features like keyless entry and ignition, tri-zone automatic climate control, while the RTL trim adds a noise-reducing windshield, a powered sunroof, power-sliding rear windows, leather upholstery, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, heated front seats with 10-way power-adjustability for the driver and 4-way power-adjustability for the front passenger, and heated mirrors.
Stepping up to the RTL-E model adds blue ambient lighting, a heated steering wheel, wireless smartphone charging, and more, while the range-topping Black Edition gets black leather seats and red ambient interior lighting.
Verdict
With the Ridgeline, Honda has redefined the pickup truck segment, offering a lot of the qualities of a typical monocoque construction like ride quality and interior space without sacrificing practicality. The high-quality interiors provide plenty of space and practicality to help the Ridgeline double up as a family hauler on the weekdays. The feature list is also impressive for the price and higher trim levels enjoy SUV levels of creature comforts and features.
Overall, the 2022 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab strikes the perfect balance between a pickup truck and an SUV, making it an ideal choice if you want more practicality than the latter without sacrificing any comfort or features.
