Which Trim should you buy?

The top of the line Limited variant is one of the best variants to buy, all thanks to the long features list and a premium cabin. Having said this, it also gets all the exterior niceties and attractive 17-inch alloy wheels. Additionally, this trim also comes with other feel-good features like LED headlights and a sunroof. The base SE trim, however, will be a better choice for those looking for a more affordable car and are ready to skip on some of the creature comforts.

2021 Hyundai Accent Engine and Performance

5.4/10

Powering the 2021 Hyundai Accent is a 1.6-L naturally aspirated inline-4 engine. This engine churns out 120 hp, while the peak torque output happens to be 113 lb-ft. The base trim comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, while a CVT gearbox is also on offer with this trim. The other two trims are however available with CVT gearbox only. The manual gearbox is slick-shifting, and the clutch too is very light and easy to operate.

2021 Hyundai Accent Sedan driving view

The CVT gearbox, on the other hand, is smooth and effortless, but it does struggle upon being pushed hard. The NVH levels of this 1.6-L motor are impressive, and no harsh vibrations are observed while driving this vehicle. The engine sound, however, is intrusive inside the cabin, making the cabin a little noisy when being pushed hard. In the CVT avatar, it accelerates from 0-60 mph in about 8.5 seconds and quarter-mile drag is done in about 16.7 seconds.

All rivals in the segment offer almost similar power at around 120 hp except the Corolla. They all come with a CVT transmission. The Corolla comes with a larger engine than the rest of the competition but loses out in the acceleration battle. Kia Rio is the least expensive of the lot but is the quickest to 60 mph, covering it in 8.2 seconds.

How well does the 2021 Hyundai Accent handle?

While the performance figures of the 2021 Hyundai Accent are decent for its class, the driving dynamics are not the best. The steering wheel lacks feel and feedback from the roads. The suspension setup too is tuned to offer better comfort, hence compromising the handling traits of the vehicle.

2021 Hyundai Accent Sedan ride and handling

The high-speed stability, however, is decent, and the car stays planted at highway speeds. The body roll is well contained, and the tires provide a decent grip when the car is being pushed hard. Having said this, the 2021 Accent may not be a great choice for hardcore driving enthusiasts but suffice well for daily driving needs.

2021 Hyundai Accent Braking Performance

An all-wheel disc brake setup is available with the 2021 Hyundai Accent, and the car gets 11-inch brake rotors at the front while the rear gets 10.3-inch brake rotors. In addition to this, the car also gets features like ABS, brake assist, and traction control to further improve the braking performance and prevent the car from losing control under heavy braking. The car comes to a complete stop under emergency braking sans any drama. The stopping distance is about 119-feet, which is good but could have been better.

The 2021 Hyundai Accent offers decent fuel economy figures that are at par with the segment standards. The car also offers a decent-sized fuel tank, hence helping it boast a notable range on a single fuel tank. Kia Rio is a sister vehicle that offers a similar fuel economy. However, the Corolla beats all in the range battle with its larger fuel tank, despite being less fuel-efficient than all.

2021 Hyundai Accent Interior

8.0/10

The cabin of Hyundai cars are usually very good and boast incredible fit and finish levels. The 2021 Hyundai Accent too offers a similar cabin and gets extremely high-quality plastics and components. The seats at the front are very comfortable and offer decent under-thigh and lumbar support. The driver’s seat can be adjusted in multiple ways. The front seats in addition to this also come with a heating function in the Limited trim. The visibility from the driver’s seat is great. The rear seat space, however, is restricted and could have been better.

2021 Hyundai Accent vs 2021 Toyota Corolla

The 2021 Toyota Corolla gets an attractive design, while the build quality is decent too. The Corolla might outshine most of its rivals when it comes to long-term reliability. The cabin too is spacious, and the seats are extremely comfortable. The rear legroom is also better than the Accent. The 2021 Hyundai Accent, on the other hand, does offer a more extensive features list and a much better exterior design. It is also more fuel-efficient as well, and its sale starts at a lower price than the Corolla.

2021 Toyota Corolla

2021 Hyundai Accent vs 2021 Nissan Versa

The new Nissan Versa gets a lot of updates that make it a strong competitor in the segment. The Kia Rio and the Hyundai Accent are largely based on the same platform, being close cousins, hence sharing many parts and components. Both these vehicles however have to offer different exterior design languages and different interiors. There is no significant difference when it comes to performance and driving dynamics. It all pours down to the choice of the prospective buyers to select one between both of them.

2021 Kia Rio

The new Hyundai Accent is a good-looking and reliable sedan that makes it a great choice for anyone who is looking to buy a feature-rich car. The exterior design is attractive, thus the car offers a strong road presence. There is no dearth of features, and the in-cabin experience is great.
