Detailed Review

Three decades ago, the Hyundai Accent made its entry to the American market. Since then the buyers with some budget on mind have shown interest in Hyundai. As of now, the 2019 Hyundai Accent has displayed itself as a Value for money Sedan. The Sedan received minor updates for this year as it went through makeover last year.

Hyundai has offered a single powertrain option throughout the trim levels. A 1.6-liter inline-4 cylinder makes a decent 130 horsepower. This is somewhere lesser that the previous generation model but instead offers better fuel economy. The 4-cylinder engine is offered in two transmissions- a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic.

2019 Hyundai Accent Engine

5.4/10
“Economy cars aren't known for performance and the Accent doesn't break the stereotype. That doesn't mean it's bad to drive, though. Aside from stiff steering, the car is communicative, and although the engine is weak, it's responsive. The manual shifter is intuitive with positive shifts.”- Edmunds

Engine and Transmission

With the 130 hp 1.6 Liter DOHC Inline-4 engine, the Hyundai Accent goes neck to neck with Toyota Yaris, Chevy Sonic, Kia Rio and Ford Fiesta. The Toyota Yaris churns out a maximum power output of 106 hp.

The Chevy Sonic on the other hand, holds biggest engine among the competition set. It gets a ECOTEC 1.8-Liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission. The Kia Rio returns 130 hp with the help of 1.6-liter engine. Kia offers similar power figures as that of the Hyundai.

Acceleration

The only thing to talk about the new Hyundai Accent is its driving dynamics. Hyundai has really worked well in the enhancement of this particular section. Since the Accent is more like a budget-oriented commuter car, anybody can drive it peacefully around the city.

The transmission is ultimately smooth that it takes less time to decide the best gear required for smooth performance. The “Sport” mode is not taking you anywhere though.

2019 Hyundai Accent Interior

8.0/10
“No different from any other small car, the Accent prioritizes size over comfort. Front seaters can get in and out just fine, but taller rear seaters will be compromised due to a low roofline. And be prepared to get cozy with your seat mates. We wish for a telescoping steering wheel.”- Edmunds

Seating and Comfort

The Accent’s cabin is beautifully arranged for five passengers. The interior material provide premium feel to the occupants. There is lot of plastic, which would be used purposely to ensure comfort to the passengers.

2019 Hyundai Accent Competition

Hyundai Accent vs. Toyota Yaris

Offered with a smaller engine, the Yaris clearly makes its way ahead of the Accent in terms of handling, braking and acceleration. The Yaris is fun-to-drive car. Toyota has also provided an array of safety features with the Sedan, making it most reliable sedan so far. The Yaris costs thousand bucks more than the Accent.

Hyundai Accent vs. Chevrolet Sonic

The Chevy Sonic is offered with a 1.8 Liter engine and comes with a price tag of extra $2K than the Hyundai Accent. The Sonic has been priced competitively. If you are looking for more value for money car, the Accent is a clear winner here.

Hyundai Accent vs. Kia Rio

The Kia Rio comes with similar engine profile as the Accent. Interestingly, it is also $1K cheaper than the Accent. Kia Rio is known for its good build quality and impressive features. Now, it comes to your personal choice that you make while making buying decision.

Hyundai Accent VS Ford Fiesta

The ford Fiesta fails to impress us on the road due to its lower torque. It is not good at transmitting power to its wheels like the Hyundai Accent. The Fiesta comes with a larger turning radius than the Accent, making it more difficult to maneuver in tight spots. However, the Ford Fiesta would be a good financial choice over Accent but, again, with some extra cost, the Accent comes with an extensive warranty offering.

2019 Hyundai Accent Final Verdict

The 2019 Hyundai Accent is a practical and reliable car with an attractive price tag. It offers spacious cabin that could accommodate your family comfortably. It offers an array of safety equipment that is need of the hour. Being a family Sedan, the Sedan lacks the fun-to-drive ethics. We believe that you may consider Toyota or Kia as better options against Accent.
