With the introduction of the Veloster N recently into the US Market, Hyundai wants to up its game by introducing N models for other cars as well. The first car to get this treatment is the popular Elantra GT. Making world debut at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, The Hyundai Elantra GT N Line replaces the Sport trim that was present last year in the lineup. But don't take the Elantra GT N Line as a car similar to the Sport. It is bigger, faster and stylish than ever.

The one thing, however, in common between the Elantra GT N Line and the car it replaces is the engine. You still get a 1.6L, Turbocharged, gas-powered motor that generates 201hp and 195lbs.-ft. of Torque. The 2019 Elantra GT N Line gets sportier-looking front and rear bumpers, leather seats with the N logo and other sporty features. Transmission options still include a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic and both cars have been priced at $24,220 and $25,320 respectively. The 2019 Elantra GT N-Line takes on the likes of some well-established rivals such as Volkswagen Golf GTI, Ford Fiesta ST and Honda Civic Si.

2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line Hatchback Features

5.0/10

Hyundai has started to give the N Line treatment to its Cars, following the launch of the Veloster N. The First car in the range, to get this treatment is the popular Elantra GT. The Elantra GT N-Line is essentially the Elantra GT Sport from 2018 but with changes in the exterior and treatment from the N performance division. The Elantra GT continues to get the same 1.6L Turbo Motor from the sport and comes paired to a 6 speed manual or a 7 speed dual clutch automatic depending on your taste.

The Elantra GT N Line comes in just one trim but is available in 2 Transmission options, namely the 6 speed Manual and 7 Speed Dual Clutch Automatic.

2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line Hatchback Engine and Performance

5.0/10

The engine mounts, transmission mounts, and springs have all been made stiffer-Caranddriver.com

Despite having the same Engine as the 2018 Elantra GT Sport, the 2019 Ealntra GT N Line's engine gets a few subtle tweaks that tends to improve the feel of the GT N Line. The Engine Mounts and the Transmission Mounts have been stiffened up over the 2018 model in lieu of a more sporty performance from the Engine. Power is still derived from the 4 Cylinder, 1.6L Turbocharged Motor that belts out 201hp and 195lbs.-ft. of Torque. The Engine is plenty powerful for most times while the best performance is extracted after the Turbo Lag ends past the 1800rpm mark.

Transmission duties in the Elantra GT N Line are still handled by a 6 speed manual transmission or a 7 speed dual clutch gear box with stick shift. People wanting faster responses from the engine will opt for the Automatic as this unit is faster than the manual by 0.3 seconds. Both perform decently well in all conditions while the Automatic gives the option of hassle free driving during heavy traffic conditions.

Acceleration

The Elantra GT N Line is one of the fastest cars in the segment it comes in. With just 6.3 seconds to do the 60MPH mark with the Automatic Transmission, the GT N Line manages to give many supercars of the past, a run for their money.

From the competition's view point, the Volkswagen Golf GTI is still the fastest in the segment with its sub 6 second timing to reach the 60MPH while the Civic Si claims lost ground in a dash to the quarter mile.

Ride and Handling

The N Line in the Hyundai is not only a cosmetic upgrade to the Elantra GT but is a functional update as well. Hyundai has added 18" Rims and Michelin Pilot Sport 4 Summer tires to the Elantra GT N Line for 2019 which not only increases the grip on the road on normal conditions but lower the rolling resistance of the tires to offer a slightly better performance.

The Suspension Springs have been stiffened by 14.3% in the front and 21.9% in the rear while the sway bars been revised as well for added stiffness. The Steering has been recalibrated as well to aid cornering abilities and high speed stability as well. To reduce the wobbliness of the GT, the Anti Roll bars have been stiffened by a massive 37.1% as well.

Braking

Hyundai claim that the Brake rotors of the GT N Line have been increased in dimensions over the model it replaces. While we don't have the exact dimensions for now, we do feel that the braking performance of the N Line with the updates mechanical tunings, would be slightly better than the 2018 model.

2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line Hatchback Fuel Economy

6.0/10

Since the Engine of the Elantra GT N Line remains unchanged from the 2018 Model, we expect the MPG figures to be similar to what used to be offered in 2018. The 26MPG may not be the best number when compared to the segment but take into account, the 14 gallon fuel tank and you will get a higher range than most of the rivals.

In terms of the competition, the Frugal Honda delivers the Best MPG figures in the segment and translates that, into the Range as well. The Ford and VW are nearly at par with each other in terms of the MPG figures with figures of 28 and 27 MPG respectively.

Layout, Seating and Comfort

The Seats inside the Elantra GT N Line offer decent levels of comfort and bolstering however, they could have been provided with some more support and padding.

One of the best aspects about the Interiors of the Elantra has to be its driver centric dash layout. The Controls for the Audio, Climate and the others are actual buttons unlike the touch screen systems used in the competition. This makes it easily accessible for the Driver while on the go without offering much distraction from the road.

2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line Hatchback Competition

Hyundai Elantra GT N Line vs. Volkswagen Golf GTI Hatch

The VW Golf GTI, is a true Hot Hatch and a segment benchmark for Rivals. It offers Tank Like build quality and durability on both the outside and the inside, breath taking performance and superb handling dynamics. The New Hyundai on the other hand claims to offer all these and much more. While we can't deny these claims, we do think that the Hyundai deserves a fair shot considering its performance oriented tires, stylish looks and a outrageous cargo space.

Hyundai Elantra GT N Line vs. Ford Fiesta ST Hatch

While it will be unfair to compare the tiny fiesta to this Elantra GT N line, we feel we should still compare it considering that the Focus RS has been discontinued in 2019. The Fiesta ST is a pocket rocket that offers nearly 200hp in a very compact size. It is easily one of the best driving hatchbacks in the segment and offers good levels of equipment as well. The Elantra GT N Line on the other hand offers a similar performance but with a bigger interior space, cargo space and slightly higher features.

Hyundai Elantra GT N Line vs. Honda Civic Si Hatchback

The Honda Civic Si has been a popular choice among the masses looking for a performance oriented, practical Car. The Civic Si offers a highly spacious interior and cabin which haven't been built to a cost. The Engine is a gem as well which is high on both Efficiency and performance. The Elantra GT N Line isn't as well built as the Civic but is definitely not inferior to the Honda in any way. The Elantra offers tons of features on the inside and with the sporty tires, retuned suspension makes for a better track weapon than the Honda.

2019 Hyundai Elantra GT N Line Hatchback Final Verdict

The 2019 Elantra GT N Line is definitely a step up from the Elantra GT Sport. The N Line gets sporty elements on the outside and on the inside which are not just cosmetic but functional as well. With a voluptuous Cargo Capacity and extensive set of features, the N Line is true delight for all the VFM Package looking people. So is it worth a shot? Well, sales are already underway and we wouldn't want you to wait and head straight to your nearest Hyundai dealership to check out this Korean Hot Hatch.
