Introduced in 2020, the Palisade is Hyundai's answer to SUVs like Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot. The 2022 Hyundai Palisade returns essentially unchanged from the 2021 model year. Last year, the SUV received an all-new range-topping Calligraphy trim along with few optional packages. Living up to its reputation as one of Hyundai’s flagship cars, the Palisade is cut above the rest with its eye-candy styling, attractive gizmo, smooth maneuver, and spacious seating configuration.

The Palisade bears a close resemblance to its cousin, the Kia Telluride. Still, both the Korean bestsellers are fundamentally different in the sense that the Telluride is more geared for rugged terrains, while the Palisade offers a more upscale interior with smooth driving dynamics. For the 2022 model year, the Palisade carries forward most of its features and traits that made it a success in the mid-size SUV segment. The trim lineup remains the same, with the same list of onboard features.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Features

Just like the 2021 MY, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade will be available in four trims: SE, SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy. All the trims come powered by a 3.8-liter V6 engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive is optional, while Front-wheel drive is standard on all trims. The SE trim comes standard with a second-row seat, which also supports space for eight passengers. The SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy trims offer a seating capacity for seven passengers with the second row consisting of captain's chairs.

We Recommend

We would go with SEL trim as it brings a significant upgrade from the base SE trim. With a pricing premium of around $3K, the SEL offers an array of value-added features like a sunroof, keyless entry, second-row captain's chair, and leather-wrapped steering wheel. It also offers few packages like Convenience and Premium, adding more features to the trim.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Price:

As there are no significant changes involved, we don’t expect any major overhaul in the pricing range. However, there should be some sort of inflation in the price tag, with the new Palisade expected to be available at a pricing range between $33,700 to $48,925. We will stay tuned to the on-sale date to provide you further updates on its pricing.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Release Date:

Hyundai hasn’t revealed any particular date for the revealing of the 2022 Palisade. However, judging by the previous year’s pattern, we expect the upcoming Palisade SUV to arrive on the marketplace by the late quarter of the year.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Engine and Performance

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade retains its familiar 3.8-liter naturally aspirated V-6 engine that develops 291 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Hyundai mates this engine to the same smooth-shifting 8-speed automatic gearbox. The engine sends power to only the front wheels through its standard front-wheel drivetrain. Buyers can still opt for the more off-road capable all-wheel drivetrain for all the trims by shelling out extra bucks.

2022 Hyundai Palisade SUV in acceleration mode

The 2022 Palisade brings forth a selection of four driving modes to choose from like before. These include Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Smart- all of which cater to the ride as per the driver’s preferences. All-wheel-drive variants get an additional Snow driving mode to traverse through thick snow. The Palisade is quite a capable workhorse as well, possessing the ability to tow 5,000 pounds.

Speaking of the speed charts, the Palisade is a bit on the lower end of the spectrum with a 0-60 mph time of 7.2 seconds. Its powertrain often runs out of breath if you push it too far off its limits. Nevertheless, the Palisade is well geared up for swift daily commutes, although it may be lagging in terms of acceleration compared to its rivals. The Ford Explorer shines in its segment with its impressive horsepower and torque figures. The Explorer’s turbo 4-cylinder powertrain beats its rivals by quite a margin.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Fuel Economy

8.0/10

Since the standard powertrain remains unchanged, the 2022 Palisade is expected to shell out the same fuel economy figures as its predecessor model. With the standard regular V6 and the front-wheel drivetrain, the Palisade can return 19 MPG in the city and 26 MPG on the highway. This lends the SUV an equivalent combined 22 MPG, which is an average figure by its segment standards. Switching to the all-wheel-drive variant cuts off some MPG figures. The Palisade now lends a reduced highway MPG of 24 and a combined 21 MPG. Luckily, the Palidsade’s fuel economy in the city remains the same for the AWD variant.

The 2022 Palisade is just about average in its segment when it comes to fuel economy but offers very competitive MPG figures to the likes of the Kia Telluride and the Honda Pilot. However, all of them lose out to the efficient Ford Explorer, which has the upper hand in its segment with its impressive MPG figures and mileage. When comparing the overall range, again Ford has the upper hand with the class-leading range of 446 miles combined.

2022 Hyundai Palisade Interior

8.0/10

Hyundai has tried keeping the Palisade's interior fresh for this year with a clean dashboard design and a refreshed cabin. The large center console fits all the knobs and audio controls in one place. A small center stack houses all the climate controls. The dashboard sports a horizontal layout, giving an ergonomic as well as upscale look. The SE and SEL trims can seat up to eight passengers with relative comfort. The higher trim levels only fit seven passengers as standard but are upgradable to a seating capacity of eight. Headroom and legroom are sufficient enough in the first two rows, although traveling in the cramped leg space of the third row can be a tussle for tall individuals.

There is also plenty of space to store your luggage, with 18 cubic feet available behind the 3rd-row. Folding down the third row grants you access to 46 cubic feet of space while folding both the 2nd and 3rd rows opens up a cargo space of 86 cubic feet. The Palisade includes a variety of cutting-edge gizmo to appeal to the tech-savvy driver. It includes an 8-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple Carplay & Android Auto smartphone integration, and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster on the Limited trim. A 12-speaker Harman Kardon surround-sound system plays your favorite tunes in sync with the serene atmosphere of the cabin. The top-draw Calligraphy trim brings puddle lamps and a steering wheel covered with perforated leather to the equation.

It is quite a close battle in the interior dimensions between all the midsize SUVs in this head-to-head competition. The Palisade just comes second-best to the Explorer’s roomy interior specs, while the Telluride and Pilot are not far behind. The trunk capacity of the Palisade just falls short of its twin, the Kia Telluride, and other rivals as well. Kia offers the best-in-class cargo capacity of 21 cubic feet behind the third row of seats.

Some of the notable interior features are:

  • Height-adjustable driver's seat
  • Power-folding second-row seats
  • 8-inch touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Five USB ports (three up front and two in the second row)
  • Rear Seat Quiet Mode (silences the speakers in the second and third rows)
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control

2022 Hyundai Palisade Exterior

9.0/10

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade hits the ball out of the park with its mouth-watering exterior design. Viewers will easily distinguish the all-new chrome trim accents, which add a lot of character to the massive SUV. The massive honeycomb grille joined by attractive LED headlights showcases the brute persona of the Palisade. You can customize your Palisade with Convenience and Premium packages that offer an array of options.

Buyers also get a taste of different styling elements through the different trims. For starters, the SE and SEL trims get 18-inch alloy wheels. The Calligraphy and the Limited trim levels ride on more stylish diamond-cut 20-inch alloy wheels. The Calligraphy trim gets a custom treatment of its own, with its own LED signature front fascia and a large central LED brake light to distinguish itself from the rest.

The Palisade’s exterior dimensions are almost similar to most of its rivals. However, we await an official announcement from Hyundai to foresee if there are any changes in the exterior dimensions for 2022. When comparing the curb weight of the SUVs in the competition, Ford Explorer is the heaviest and still manages to outperform the rivals in the engine performance department. The notable exterior features include:

  • LED headlights
  • 18-inch alloy wheels
  • Wide LED brake lights
  • Bold honeycomb front grille

2022 Hyundai Palisade Safety

7.0/10

In terms of safety, the 2022 Hyundai Palisade is a well-equipped car with automatic emergency braking, rearview camera, LED headlights with automatic high beams, active lane control, rear parking sensors, and adaptive cruise control with stop/go function as standard. On the SEL and higher trims, safety features like a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert, a heads-up display, surround-view camera, downhill brake control, and front parking sensors become standard.

The Hyundai Palisade was a Top Safety Pick for 2021 by the reputed IIHS, with the highest rating of ‘Good’ in all safety aspects and a ‘Superior’ rating for its frontal crash prevention measures. The Palisade also received a 5-star overall safety rating from NHTSA. We expect the same safety ratings to carry forward to 2022. The notable safety features include:

  • Emergency braking
  • Rearview camera
  • Active Lane Control
  • Rear parking sensors
  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Heads-up display
  • Surround-view camera
  • Front parking sensors

2022 Hyundai Palisade vs Kia Telluride

These two SUVs are identical twins from the same family but yet sport several noticeable differences. Visually, the Kia Telluride has more squared-off looks than the Palisade that may appeal to the classic SUV enthusiast. The Palisade has a smoother ride quality over rough surfaces, while the Telluride has a stiffer and more rugged ride. The Palisade is more diverted towards the opulent side than the Telluride, while the latter has the advantage with better fuel economy and cargo space. In the end, it all comes down to brand preference.

Kia Telluride

2022 Hyundai Palisade vs Ford Explorer

The Ford Explorer leaves the Palisade tasting the dust in terms of outright acceleration, towing capability, and fuel economy. However, the Palisade is just better than the truck-like Explorer in terms of maneuverability and handling. The Palisade’s tech suite is also more driver-centric and intuitive than the one on the Explorer. In the cargo department, both the SUVs are neck-to-neck, although the Explorer just emerges as the winner. However, if you consider the overall style quotient, affordability, and value-for-money, the Palisade comes out on top over the Explorer. The Explorer is still the better option for performance geeks.

Ford Explorer

2022 Hyundai Palisade vs Honda Pilot

The Honda Pilot has been a value-for-money proposition in its segment, thanks to its trusted brand reputation, good resale value, and most important of all, it possesses roomy three rows of seats for your family and friends. The Palisade has its perks like three years of free maintenance to compete against Honda’s reliability. The Palisade is also the more luxurious of the duo with more tech features than the Pilot to appeal to the tech-savvy driver. The Pilot may have the edge in terms of fuel economy, but the Palisade is simply the better option to drive your family in style and comfort.

Honda Pilot

2022 Hyundai Palisade Final Verdict

The 2022 Hyundai Palisade is a jack-of-all-trades, offering all the positive traits of an excellent mid-size SUV in a respectable price range for families. Although the powertrain remains unchanged, the Palisade is still one of the best handling cars in its business. Hyundai’s reputation of excellence grants the Palisade a plethora of standard gizmo and safety techs. The three-row SUV sports roomy interior and cargo space to justify itself as a splendid weekend ride for families. Moreover, with Hyundai’s excellent warranty terms and customer service on the line, the Palisade emerges as the most well-rounded SUV in its segment.
