wo years ago, Hyundai introduced the eighth generation of the Sonata with a complete makeover inside and out. The new Sonata arrived with a new exterior styling that included mean headlights along with a chiseled body. The interior design was always ahead of its competitors, and the eighth gen had a similar story. You get a new 10.25-inch touchscreen display and a much more appealing interior. Hyundai also has introduced the new N Line Night Edition and trimmed down the glowing yellow paint from its palette.

Apart from these, the SEL Plus comes equipped with the Technology Package as standard, and the Limited model offers dynamic voice recognition. The 2022 Sonata competes against the likes of Honda Accord, Toyota Camry, and Nissan Altima.

2022 Hyundai Sonata Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

The mean and aggressive exterior styling of the 2022 Sonata plays very well with the modern interior design. Step inside and you’ll notice how premium, clean, and spacious the cabin feels. The base trims do get textured plastics, but the flagship Limited trim comes with a leatherette-covered dashboard. The dashboard comes equipped with a parallelogram-shaped touch screen along with slim climate control vents and controls below. Moreover, the Limited trim gets a large 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a heated steering wheel. 

As standard, the 2022 Sonata can seat five people in two rows. Both the front and rear seats offer adequate head and legroom for uncompromised comfort. The front row comes equipped with a pair of manually-adjustable bucket seats wrapped in cloth upholstery in the SE trim, but the higher trims offer power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats. SEL Plus gets you suede and synthetic leather upholstery and the Limited trim gets you Leather upholstery. The rear row comes equipped with 60/40 split-fold seats with additional padding for extra support.

2022 Sonata is the largest among all the midsize sedans here. It offers the most spacious front row but the rear row space is compromised as a consequence. Though the cabin of the Camry is smaller than the Accord’s, the seats of the Camry offer better comfort. Design-wise, the 2022 Sonata impressed us the most.

Sonata comes equipped with an 8-inch HD touchscreen, a six-speaker audio system, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay as standard. The SEL includes features such as a SiriusXM satellite radio, a wireless device charger, and Hyundai Digital Key. 

The SEL+ and Limited trims come equipped with a larger 10.25-inch full HD touch display, a 12-speaker Bose premium audio system, dynamic voice recognition, and voice-assisted navigation. The Convenience package also gets you a bigger 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster.

2022 Hyundai Sonata Cargo Capacity

The 2022 Sonata comes equipped with a 16 cubic feet cargo trunk, which is enough storage space for storing 3–4 medium-sized bags. Additionally, the rear row comes equipped with 60/40 split seats, which offer additional storage space when folded.

The rear cargo opening is large enough to allow easy exchange of cargo items, and the cargo floor is neither too high nor too low.

The 2022 Honda Accord compromises seat space to offer a larger cargo trunk. Hyundai Sonata on the other hand compromised rear row space for extravagant front row space and decent cargo space. 2022 Camry offers a more balanced cabin and cargo space.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

2022 Sonata a small compartment in the lower part of the dashboard for storing mobile phones and other small belongings, an illuminated and lockable glove box, a pair of cup holders, and a storage compartment inside the center console. The rear row offers a pair of cup holders, seat back map pockets, and some space under the seats. Additionally, all the doors are equipped with door bins and bottle holders.

2022 Hyundai Sonata Creature Comforts

Hyundai has done an excellent job of equipping the 2022 Sonata’s cabin. The SE offers cloth upholstery in black or dark gray, manually adjustable front seats, power windows, keyless entry, a multi-function steering wheel, manual AC with air filter, ambient interior lighting. The SEL trim comes equipped with a 4.2-inch color MID, push-button start, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel, dual-zone automatic AC, a power-adjustable driver seat, heated front seats, and LED interior lighting. 

Upgrading to the SEL+ will get you a larger 12.3-color digital instrument cluster, power-adjustable front seats, black Dinamica suede seats, a voice-activated dual-zone automatic climate control and the Blue Link tracker system. The flagship Limited trim comes standard with a leatherette dashboard, leather seats in black, dark gray, or camel color, heated and ventilated front seats, customizable LED ambient lighting, a color head-up display, and a heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Verdict

The 2022 Sonata is undoubtedly the best in the competition when it comes to interior. It excellently balances between premiumness and practicality. The front seats are power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated and they offer an excellent view of the road. The rear seats offer adequate comfort and are foldable. Additionally, you get respectable cargo space.
