Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

That is because although deemed sporty by name, it is only offered with a lackluster engine that is found in its regular counterpart with no intervention from the N Performance division here. However, the engine is the last thing sublime about this vehicle, as the rest of the interior and exterior have been revamped, making it live up to its sporty nature. Let us now dive in and take a look at if the 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line is any good.

Features

The N-Line is expected to be a separate trim in itself since there aren’t many substantial differences between it and the regular Tucson. The brand offers each variant with optional equipment packages to choose from, so as to have a car for everyone, depending on the creature comforts they’re looking for. Since the details are yet to surface we would like to reserve our comments and recommendations in this regard.

What’s the expected price and release date of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line?

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line is expected to cost right around $31,000 when it comes stateside as it has currently only been previewed for the European market and is expected. The sporty crossover SUV will probably be available for sale in the US in spring this year with more specs and details set to be unveiled in the coming months.

Engine and Performance

7.5/10

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line loses out on sportiness in the engine department, as it comes outfitted with the same 2.5L Smartstream GDI MPI engine that is offered in the regular variants of the Tucson as well. It makes a modest 187 hp and 178 lb-ft of torque, ensuring that it drives just like a regular family crossover.

The Tucson N Line is offered with both, a FWD, as well an AWD option, and is paired to an 8-Speed Automatic transmission. The performance is linear and does not feel lackluster in most scenarios but does not really feel fit for the N Line badging.

In comparison, the Toyota RAV4 is the quickest off the line with the Mazda CX-5 right at its tail with hardly anything to separate between them. The Tucson is almost half a second slower than the Mazda while the Nissan Rogue Sport is right behind the Korean SUV. But the fact that the Tucson would be considerably pricier for similar levels of performance as the competitors is what would bother most buyers.

How does the 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line handle?

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line retains the same suspension as the regular variant and falls short of being sporty around bends. The suspension is pliant and tuned for comfort rather than to invoke and satisfy the enthusiast in you.The Multi-Link suspension on the rear ensures that the ride is absorbent and whilst dismissing most road imperfections without feeling overly floaty. It does lack the firm ride that we’d have preferred when opting for the sporty N Line over its regular counterparts.

Fuel Economy

8.0/10

The upside to not having a powerful motor under the hood of the Tucson N Line is that it pretty much retains the fuel efficiency figures from its regular counterparts. The 2.5L Smartstream GDI MPI engine should return a healthy 26 MPG in the city and 33 MPG on the highway in the FWD version, and a decent 24 MPG in the city and 29 MPG on the highway in the AWD variant.

The larger 19” wheels on the N Line do affect the fuel efficiency a little, but it is negligible enough to be ignored. The 16.4-gallon fuel tank can take you a maximum distance of over 400 miles on a single tank, the Toyota RAV4 outshines the Tucson with a superior frugality. The Rogue Sport has the highest fuel consumption while the Mazda is marginally better in this regard.

Interior

9.0/10

The interiors of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line have been refreshed and redone for this particular variant to make it stand out from its regular counterparts and look sporty. Although the vehicle isn’t bestowed with the sports seats that the Sonata N Line offers, they have covered the seat in suede and finished it with red stitching in order to up the ante.

Red stitching is used throughout the dark cabin on the center console, grippy sports steering wheel, and doors to give the Tucson N Line a slightly sportier look. A black headliner, metal pedals, and Hyundai N door sill plates have also been thrown into the mix to complete the sporty theme. There are enough storage spaces on offer to store your knick-knacks.

The Nissan Rogue Sport has the best room at the front with superior headroom and legroom as compared to the others in the segment. That being said, the rear seat is a bit tight when compared to the Tucson and the CX-5. Out of the lot, the Hyundai Tucson offers the perfect balance between passenger and cargo space while the RAV4 is the most compact of the lot.

2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line: Infotainment and Connectivity

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line offers a 10.25-inch infotainment screen that packs wireless capabilities for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Audio duties are handled by an impressive 8-speaker Bose premium audio system. The head unit offers the rest of the charade as standard, while the rest of the interior looks very tech-heavy, as it displays all its information digitally.

The frameless digital instrument panel, buttonless center stack, and 64-color ambient lighting, escalate the futuristic feeling further. Not everyone would be a fan of the buttonless layout of the cabin, as people still prefer physical buttons and knobs for crucial controls like the volume and air-conditioner.

Exterior

8.0/10

The exterior of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson N Line has been completely revamped and redesigned for this model year with an incredibly futuristic approach. Although its looks are polarising, we find the slightly tweaked N Line version of the Tucson much better looking with its different bumpers, side skirts, and interesting color schemes on offer.

It looks a lot more aggressive and sporty than its regular counterpart, whilst toning down the crossover nature with its body-colored wheel arch extensions and larger wheels. The overall design and theme of the 2022 Tucson are expected to be quite striking. And such distinctive styling will surely make the car loom stand out, especially amongst the competition.

With the new redesign, the 2022 Tucson is expected to be the largest in terms of dimensions and also offer the longest wheelbase. The Toyota RAV4 is similar in dimensions but offers the highest ride height which makes going off the road that much more convenient and stress free. The higher weight affects the frugality of the CX-5 while the sportier stance means lower ground clearance as well.

Safety

9.0/10

The redesigned 2022 Tucson is expected to take the already top notch safety standards of the car to much higher level. Currently, the 2021 Tucson scores a perfect 5-star overall rating in the NHTSA crash tests and also bags the “Top Safety Pick” accolade from the IIHS. Add to that the high-tech safety gadgets and driver aids, most of which are offered as standard by Hyundai, provides a peace of mind experience. Some of the available safety features are listed below.

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist w/Pedestrian Detection
  • Blind Spot Collision Warning
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning
  • Lane Keeping Assist
  • Lane Departure Warning
  • Surround View Monitor 360-degree Back-Up Camera

Final Verdict

Along with a feature-packed equipment list and futuristic design, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson also sports a solid chassis, built with high-strength steel. A plethora of active safety systems are also available onboard, which makes this a great crossover SUV for people wanting to venture into this segment. The redesigned sporty exterior and interior bits do uplift the vehicle into the intended direction, but the lack of any mechanical upgrades does make the Tucson N Line fall sport when trying to please an enthusiast. If you can make peace with its polarising design and the fact that it drives exactly like its regular counterpart, this comfortable and spacious crossover is surely going to strike well with you.
