Unveiled as the Vision T concept in the 2019 LA auto show by Hyundai, the concept car has now become a reality. The 2022 Hyundai Tucson has been completely reimagined and redesigned and enters its fourth generation with compelling panache. The exterior design can best be described as bold and edgy, with striking new design cues at the front and the back. The interior of the 2022 Tucson has also been revised to be more comfortable and high quality.

Both hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants of the 2022 Tucson are also available, but the regular gasoline model gets a pretty decent powertrain focused on being fuel efficient. Let’s dive in and see how great it actually is. The new 2022 Hyundai Tucson competes against the likes of Nissan Rogue, Toyota RAV4 and Mazda CX-5.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

For 2022 MY, the interior of the 2022 Tucson has been redesigned and it looks more modern. The interior has a straight dashboard that also houses the AC vents. The lines smoothly flow down at the center of the dash, where the infotainment screen is housed. The fit and finish is also excellent. The new Tucson uses stain-resistant cloth upholstery in the base trims and there is an abundance of hard-touch surfaces. However, the interior surely feels more premium when you jump to the SEL and Limited trims. Limited offers leather upholstered seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and also a leather shift lever as standard while these can be equipped in SEL trim via optional packages. The N-Line features leather and fabric combination for the seats. And to offer a sporty and racy theme, it makes use of red accents in the interior.

The base trim comes with a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat and 4-way passenger seat. But when you move up to the higher trims, you will be greeted with a heated and ventilated 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and also 2-way power lumbar support. Also, the passenger can enjoy an 8-way power seat. The steering wheel is heated and leather wrapped in these premium trims. The seats are comfortable and supportive; visibility is also excellent all around. Talking about the seating space, the front row is pretty spacious, offering a lot of headroom and legroom. Contrary to other crossovers and SUVs, the rear seating space is also excellent. The middle seat is a bit tight, since the shoulder room isn’t all that great. You could squeeze in 5 adults, but 4 adults would be absolutely fine inside.

Front Row (Head/Shoulder/Leg) (in)

Rear Row (Head/Shoulder/Leg) (in)

As we mentioned before, the Tucson has excellent seating space in the back, which is rivaled by very few. The 2022 CX-5 also comes with excellent legroom and headroom at the back, but the Tucson offers just a bit more. Also, in terms of overall interior space, Tucson is the best. RAV4 offers the least interior space in the lot. Nissan Rogue on the other hand offers the best front row legroom. But we feel the interior of the 2022 Mazda CX-5 looks the most premium in the competition.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Infotainment

Even the base trim of the Tucson is actually well-equipped when it comes to tech. As standard, you get an 8-inch touch screen display unit. However, the Limited enjoys the best system of the line-up with its 10.25” touchscreen display. The system is actually pretty good, bright, easy to use and intuitive. The display is crisp and most importantly, the touch response is pretty good too. Apart from the above, you can also opt for a 10.25-inch digital gauge cluster.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Infotainment System

Standard features in the base trim include wireless Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, Bluetooth, HD radio, USB ports, etc. From SEL onwards, you get SiriusXM satellite radio and also BlueLink. Coming to the Limited trim, it also comes with built-in navigation and traffic updates. The base trim offers a 6-speaker sound system and the higher trims come with an 8-speaker BOSE premium sound system for the best experience.

Key Infotainment Features

  • 10.25” touchscreen display
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • BlueLink
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Built-in navigation
  • Wireless charger
  • Traffic updates
  • 8-speaker BOSE premium audio system

2022 Hyundai Tucson Cargo Capacity

The 2022 Tucson comes with quite a lot of cargo space for storing all your items. Behind the rear row, you get a cavernous 38.7 cubes of storage, which should be more than enough for storing the luggage of 5 people.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Cargo Space

Grocery shopping in your new stylish Tucson would also be a breeze. Need more space? Easy, just put the 60/40-split seats down and now you have 80.3 cubes of storage to store almost anything big that you want.

Standard cargo capacity (cubic feet)

Maximum cargo capacity (cubic feet)

The 2022 Tucson easily beats out all of its rivals when it comes to cargo space, offering the most space by a good margin. It also has the best maximum cargo capacity and none can come close to it. Nissan Rogue comes close but the margin in terms of max cargo capacity is still huge- a difference of at least 7 cubic feet.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

You will find the typical storage solution inside the 2022 Tucson as you do in all other vehicles. There is a storage area in the armrest and a center tray to store items. There are cup holders at the front row, and also another pair at the back. You also get a decent-sized glove box and door pockets. The rear row also comes with a coat hanger.

2022 Hyundai Tucson Creature Comforts

Hyundai has made sure to provide a rather comfortable and smooth experience inside the new 2022 Tucson. Now, the base trim comes with features such as 6-way manual seat, manual tilt/telescoping column, odor and stain resistant cloth upholstery and remote keyless entry to name a few.

The higher trims offer much more, such as 8-way power front seats with 2-way lumbar support, heated and ventilated front seats, heated and leather-wrapped steering wheel, sunroof, a hands-free power liftgate, dual-zone climate control and leather upholstery.

The new 2022 Tucson is an absolute winner in its segment. Offering tons of new and interesting features, the interior of the 2022 MY has been upgraded to be more comfortable and more attractive than ever. Choices of materials are also excellent. As you move up the trim ladder, the experience becomes more and more premium. In short, the 2022 Hyundai Tucson has lots to offer in terms of technology, and practicality. We think Hyundai nailed it with this one.
