Infiniti offers an ideal blend of practicality and versatility with the Q50. The sedan offers an effortless city commute and adapts equally well when it comes to touring. The wider range of driver aids and features add more value to the car. Furthermore, the 2018 Infiniti Q50 aces when it comes to reliability. The registered record of 16 user complaints and 2 recalls provides enough evidence of this. However, the car comes across rare issues like low mileage and engine belt shredding. Even so, the Inifiniti tie-up with Honda aftersales resolves these concerns with prompt services and recalls. The Infiniti Q50 shares the marketplace with the likes of the Acura TLX, the BMW 3 Series, and the Lexus IS 300. The sedan holds the 6th spot on the CarHp list of top-10 sedans of 2018. Here’s a closer look at the car.

User Complaints and Problems

Mechanical Problems

  • Fuel and propulsion system - User complaints report a dropped down fuel efficiency with the sedan. This violates the official manufacturer’s claims of the on-paper fuel efficiency figures.
  • Brakes - The car comes across a few complaints regarding the braking system. Users report instances wherein the car speeds up on depressing the brake pedal. This results in the crashing of the vehicle. Braking defects compromise the safety of the car and its occupants. This increases the risk of crashing or injury.
  • Engine - Engine issues are common with the sedan. Multiple cases report shredding of the drive/serpentine belt. This results in a squealing noise while driving and idling. Few cases also report instances of snapping of the serpentine belt. This can result in engine stalling. The fix to these issues needs the users to replace the serpentine belt frequently. Engine issues increase the chances of a crash.
  • Vehicle Fire - The records report a one-off case of engine fire with the car. The user reports the car abruptly slowing down followed by the emission of white smoke from the hood. This progresses to an engine compartment fire. This eventually gutted the vehicle and results in a total loss of the vehicle.

Electrical Problems

  • Connectivity - User complaints report that devices connected to the car’s BlueTooth intermittently disconnect. A repeated disconnection of devices may distract the driver.

Safety Problems

  • Airbags - A few users report cases of intermittent airbag malfunction warnings on the dash. A loss of drive power and engine stalling follows this. The warning can distract the driver while driving. A sudden loss of drive under driving conditions increases the chances of a crash.
  • Backup Camera - User complaints report instances of the backup camera failures. This leads to a loss of rearview backup camera display graphics. A lack of a rear-view image increases the chances of a crash.

Structural Problems

  • Taillights - Users report that the tail lights do not illuminate brightly while driving in dark. This leads to dimmed brake lights. This can make it difficult for the tailing motorists to acknowledge braking. This increases the chances of rear-ended collisions.
  • Wheels/tires - Despite factory stock-fitted run-flat tires, the sedan is prone to frequent tire blowouts. Users report multiple cases of tire blowouts under driving conditions. This increases the risk of crashing for the occupant as well as fellow motorists.
