If you’re looking for a luxury sedan but do not want a German brand, then you may find Infiniti to be a good option. Now, Infiniti has been in the market for quite some time but the Nissan subsidiary has had poor sales over the past few years. And the primary reason for that has been the fact that Infiniti hasn’t been able to update its cars over the years and keep up with the market.

The same goes for the Q50 sedan. The luxury sedan hasn’t had a major upgrade in years. For 2022 MY, the base Pure trim has been dropped from the lineup and Luxe gains more standard features. It is also notable to mention that last year Infiniti added more features to the Luxe trim and a new Sensory trim made entry in the lineup. Pitched against heavyweights like the Audi A4, BMW 3-Series and Mercedes-Benz Class, the 2022 Infiniti Q50 couldn’t keep up when it comes to interior design, quality, and opulence.

The 2022 Infiniti Q50 is marketed as a luxury sedan but honestly, things are a bit disappointing on the inside. Step in and you’re greeted by an aging interior. The interior design of the Q50 hasn’t been upgraded for years and it just doesn’t feel like you are sitting in a car from 2022. The black and silver interior color scheme looks dull. But other than that, in terms of material quality, fit and finish, it feels premium. But that being said, you can feet road noise creep in as the cabin is not well insulated to say the least.

But then, the upside of the 2022 Infiniti Q50 is that it is just a tad bit spacious compared to the other cars in the segment. People looking for more room and comfort would immediately get sold. Even on the second row, 3 people can sit quite comfortably and have no troubles. As standard, you get power-adjustable front seats with heating function and memory settings. The seats are wrapped in premium leather upholstery. The seats are also quite supportive and snug; there’s nothing much for us to grumble about in this area. The top end Sensory trim gets Saddle Brown leather-upholstery option along with open-pore-wood interior trim. While the base trim gets dual-zone automatic climate control as standard, the Sensory trim gets a more advanced HVAC system along with an air purifier.

The 2022 Infiniti Q50 has the most spacious cabin in the competition but it also has the most outdated and dull design. We found the interior design and styling of the Mercedes C Class to be better than the rest. In terms of quality fit and finish, we found all the three German sedans on par with each other. But it is notable to mention that the Q50 offers nearly 3-inches of extra legroom at the front than the rest of the rivals.

The 2022 Infiniti Q50 comes equipped with a rather gimmicky and confusing dual-screen infotainment setup. The upper 8-inch touchscreen display houses the navigation, audio and infotainment functions while the lower 7-inch touchscreen display provides access to some other vehicle functions and features.

Dual-screen infotainment setups have always been very confusing to use and operate and so is this one. The audio equipment is however very impressive. The Q50 as standard gets a 16-speaker premium Bose performance audio system which is one of the best in the segment. Apart from that, you also get HD Radio, SiriusXM satellite radio, Wi-Fi hotspot, Wired Android Auto, and wireless Apple CarPlay.
The 2022 Infiniti Q50 gets about 13.5 cubic feet of luggage space as standard which is pretty decent for a vehicle in this segment. The sedan’s trunk can swallow a decent amount of luggage and you can easily fit in large items.

The 2022 BMW 3 Series has the highest amount of cargo space in the competition and can carry about 17 cubes of luggage. The Audi A4 on the other hand has the lowest cargo space and offers only 12 cubic feet of cargo space.
Additional Interior Storage Spaces
Interior storage spaces are quite few in the 2022 Q50. There's an average-sized glove box at the front and the center console has a cubby to hold your wallet and mobile phone. The center console also has 2 cupholders and the front armrest has a tiny storage cubby under it where you can store other tiny bits. The front seats at the back get map pockets and all four doors have large pockets. The rear center seat folds down as an armrest and then there are 2 cupholders in the armrest for the rear passengers.

The 2022 Q50 gets a decent list of comfort features. As standard, you get heated, 8-way power-adjustable front seats with memory function and a leather-wrapped steering wheel on offer. Dual-zone automatic climate control is also offered as standard and so is leather upholstery. Sensory trim gets semi-aniline leather upholstery along with sport bucket front seats, Advanced HVAC system with air filter and ambient interior lighting. There’s aluminum trim offered as standard but the Sensory trim gets open-pore wood trim while the Red Sport trim gets black matte carbon fiber trim.
Verdict
The interior of the 2022 Infiniti Q50 isn’t as good enough as its rivals. It features a dated and dull design. Infiniti has tried to make things up by offering more standard features and a good audio system but that doesn’t help much. After all, people crave opulence and a modern interior when they are shopping for a luxury vehicle. That being said, the 2022 Infiniti Q50 has a luxurious interior but there are better options available in the market at the same price point.
