2020 Infiniti QX50 Engine and Performance

7.3/10

The 2020 INFINITI QX50 gets a turbocharged 2.0L 4-cylinder engine under the hood, that makes use of the world’s first production variable compression technology, which they coined as the VC-Turbo. The engine is capable of generating 268 horsepower and 280 lb.-ft. of torque which is transmitted either to the front wheels or all the wheels via a Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). The engine is precise and power-packed and though the power delivery is not very consistent, it grabs a competitive position in the segment at an affordable price tag.

The engine in the QX50 is capable enough to accelerate the big crossover to higher speeds with no pull-back. Though the acceleration figures aren’t the best in the market, it is pretty decent and impressive for a utility vehicle. The QX50 sprints to 60 MPH from a perfect standstill within 6.4 seconds, which is impressive. It gets done with the quarter-mile race within 14.9 seconds and can reach up to a top speed of 132 MPH.

The Acura RDX gets the best-in-class power figures followed by the QX50. Though the Cadillac is the priciest, it has the least powerful figures in the competition of 237hp and 258lb.-ft of torque. The GLC Class strikes the best 0-60 MPH timing of 5.8 seconds, followed by the INFINITI but the inconsistency in power delivery is felt in the quarter-mile race as the former gains a lead on the INFINITI.

How well does the 2020 INFINITI QX50 handle?

The 2020 INFINITI QX50 crossover offers a comfortable and composed ride even in harsh terrains. The suspension is well-tuned and enables the vehicle to stay planted on the road but allows for a minimum infusion of the bumps into the vehicle. The engine notes or wind noise aren’t heard in the cabin at highway speeds due to the well-insulated cabin. The vehicle's body is bulky and heavy, and thus cornering seems to be uneasy with the evident body roll.

2020 Infiniti QX50 SUV driving view

The CVT unit seems to take away the fun of driving the QX50. However, it works well and is good for your daily commutes. The steering is predictable and precise, offering a good amount of feel and feedback. Overall, the vehicle offers a balanced ride. With the INFINITI ProPilot Assist System, one shall hold on to the steering and sit back relaxed on the heavy stop-and-go traffic congestion. The system shall take passive control over the steering, throttle, and brake.

2020 INFINITI QX50 Braking Performance

The 2020 INFINITI QX50 gets capable brakes- 13-inch brake rotors at the front and 12.1-inch rotors at the rear - and are big enough to halt the 3,937 pounds heavy crossover from 60 MPH within 114 feet. The brake pedals are soft but feel quite unstable, resulting in noticeable nose dives under immediate braking. This inspires less confidence in the drivers, both in congested slow-moving traffic as well as fast-moving highway speeds.

The 2020 Cadillac XT5 is the lightest in the segment and gets the biggest brakes too which gives an advantage to the XT5 in halting faster than the rest of the three. It also gets the least stopping distance of 111 feet. The INFINITI QX50, though a bit heavy, offers better braking performance than the RDX and the Mercedes, which take an additional foot or two to come to a standstill.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Fuel Economy

7.0/10

With the intelligent CVT tech under the hood, the 2020 QX50 offers decent fuel efficiency for the 2020 model year. The 2020 INFINITI QX50 assures 22 MPG on the city, 28 MPG on highways, and 25 MPG combined EPA ratings. The QX50 gets a small 16-gallon fuel tank that offers 352 miles of range on city drives and 448 miles on highways. This means that though the engine would save your pocket, it would demand frequent visits to the gas station.

Contrarily, the most efficient QX50 gets the least range figures in the competition. The Merc and Acura offer decent mileage of 24 and 23 MPG, respectively, and a comparably larger fuel tank than the INFINITI.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Interior

8.5/10

The 2020 INFINITI QX50 gets good-looking interior appointments that reflect both aesthetics and sophistication. The cabin is plentifully spacious and airy, offering a good amount of outward visibility. The upscale cabin layout with plenty of features impresses us. It seats 5 passengers with ample comfort and room. The seats feature a heating and ventilation facility for the upper trims, along with 8-way power adjustability and memory settings.

2020 Infiniti QX50 basic SUV front seats

The top-of-the-line Autograph trim gets leather seats and wood trims in the cabin. It also offers features such as tri-zone automatic climate control, a motion-activated power liftgate, head-up display, and direct adaptive steering. The panoramic sunroof on offer brings a lot of light into the cabin. The rear seats feature a 60/40 split-folding function. The vehicle offers 31 cubic feet with all the seats up. With the folded rear seats, it expands to 65 cubic feet.

The Premium White Leather Package that comes with the Autograph trim escalates the upmarket aura even further. The quilted white leather seating with contrast-colored stitching makes it look more royal.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Exterior

8.0/10

The 2020 INFINITI QX50 is one of the handsome-looking SUVs in the segment. With the traditional styling and design language of the INFINITI cars, the crossover looks chunky and muscular. The aggressive front fascia with the massive grille adds to the sporty character of the crossover and perfectly complements the performance figures it offers. For the higher trims, the brand offers better equipment like the ice-cube headlights, dual exhausts, 20-inch wheels, motion-activated power liftgate, integrated LED front fog lights, and an integrated rear spoiler.

2020 Infiniti QX50 basic SUV

The overall design language is clean and elegant, distinctly reflecting the arrogance of the powertrain. The massive panoramic moonroof lets a good amount of light and air into the cabin. It gets the best-in-class 8.6” of ground clearance, which gives good ride quality even over bumpy roads. Apart from all these, the vehicle gets UV-reducing solar glass. Coming to the rear end, you’ll see the LED brake lights and center high-mounted stoplight.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Competition

8.0/10

2020 INFINITI QX50 vs 2020 Cadillac XT5

The Cadillac XT5 is a stiff rival to the INFINITI QX50. The vehicle features a smooth and refined 9-speed automatic transmission which goes better against the CVT in the INFINITI QX50. On the other hand, the QX50 gets better power figures and efficiency figures than the Cadillac, which makes INFINITI a more appealing choice.

2020 INFINITI QX50 vs 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC Class

The Mercedes-Benz GLC is one of the best SUVs in the class. The German engineering reflects luxury, space, and sophistication and grabs every eye with its astonishing design and style. The reliability of the trusted brand and a more affordable price tag give a better word for the Merc. Still, the INFINITI QX50 is more powerful and practical than the Merc.

2020 INFINITI QX50 vs 2020 Acura RDX

The Acura RDX is far more affordable than any of the rivals in the segment. Be the powertrain or handling, QX50 takes over the advantage. QX50 has slightly better interior space and cargo capacity. Moreover, it has better dimensions, efficiency, and driving dynamics than the Acura RDX.

2020 Infiniti QX50 Final Verdict

The 2020 INFINITI QX50, with better and updated equipment, is a better package as a whole. In this competitive segment of crossover SUVs, the QX50 manages to find its position by excelling in more than one area of evaluation. It handles precisely and looks the best. Though the ride quality of the Mercedes-Benz GLC Class remains unmatched, the INFINITI QX50 at an affordable price tag would be a worthy buy. With advanced features for comfort and safety, QX50 vehicle would be a perfect pick in the segment.
