Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

When the new QX60 drops into the market alongside the redesigned Nissan Pathfinder, expect a lot of flares. The QX60’s traditional rivals like the Buick Enclave and the Acura MDX are already wary, while more upscale rivals like the Lincoln Aviator and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class are also keeping a watch over its launch. The 2022 INFINITI QX60 embraces the Japanese automaker’s philosophy that luxury should be lived in and we see whether the midsize SUV lives up to that ethos.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Features

The Infiniti QX60 is currently offered in two trims which can also be configured to All-wheel-drive. For the 2022 model year, the more luxury inclined Signature Edition is also going to be offered by Infiniti, although with an almost $10000 increase from the Luxe edition.

We Recommend

We recommend going for the LUXE trim. It has a capable engine with an ample number of comfort and convenience features which makes for a comfortable and fun driving experience. The Signature edition is a tad too expensive for the additional features it offers. Thus the LUXE trim would be the best bang for the buck for the QX60.

Price:

Since this is a major redesign for the Infiniti QX60, we expect inflation in its price tag so that the SUV competes with more upscale midsize SUVs. The base PURE trim should start around $46,000. The top-draw SIGNATURE EDITION TRIM should be available at a base price of $56,000. However, these are just predicted prices as the actual price may be revealed much closer to the on-sale date.

Release Date

The 2022 INFINITI QX60 should be available for booking by the latter quarter of 2021. However, INFINITI has instructed its dealers that the midsize SUV will only roll to the dealerships by summer. So you may have to wait a bit to get your hands on a brand-new INFINITI QX60.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Engine and Performance

The 2022 INFINITI QX60 delivers on all of its promises with a completely new powertrain for the QX60. The engine will likely be the same 3.5L V6 engine, which is capable of pumping out 295 hp and 270 lb-ft of torque. The massive change however will be the inclusion of a traditional 9-speed automatic transmission. This transmission replaces the old continuously variable transmission and promises to add more poise and confidence to the QX60’s handling. INFINITI claims to have tested its new powertrain in extreme environments for maximum response ride and handling and overall vehicle behavior. This powertrain is also rated at a stellar towing capacity of 6,000 pounds, 1000 more than its predecessor.

INFINITI also introduces an Intelligent AWD system on the QX60, that is tuned to support the driver with all-wheel traction in any road condition. This rings in great news for people living in snowy conditions, although the AWD will only be optional in front of the standard FWD drivetrain. Speaking of the speed tests, INFINITI hasn’t conducted any 0-60 MPH or quarter-mile tests for its new powertrain. We speculate it will be a minor improvement over the 0-60 MPH of 5.3 seconds set by its 2021 predecessor.

In terms of horsepower, the INFINITI QX60 finishes second best to the Buick Enclave. Still, the QX60 is one of the fastest SUVs in its segment as of the 2021 model year and its excellent ride quality is a force to be reckoned with. With its 2022 iteration, things in the performance chart will only get better.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Fuel Economy

Fuel economy is another major factor that is influenced by the QX60’s powertrain updates. EPA hasn’t rated the new powertrain for the QX60 yet, but we speculate the MPG figures to be close to the outgoing model. The 2022 INFINITI QX60 is expected to get an MPG of 21 while strolling in the city and an MPG of 26 while cruising on the highway.

This lends an equivalent combined MPG of 22 which is very frugal by SUV standards. Thus, the QX60 shells out a mileage of 390 miles in the city and around 527 miles on the interstate. With the new powertrain, INFINITI is also focusing on better fuel efficiency standards.

The Acura MDX has a slight advantage over the QX60 with its slightly better highway MPG and mileage. The current QX60 is still one of the top-draw SUVs in terms of fuel efficiency and we expect the same from its 2022 model.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Interior

A major overhaul in the interior design is on the cards for the 2022 INFINITI QX60. While most of the interior bits have been shrouded in secrecy by the automaker, you can expect the SUV to retain the same three-row seat layout. We have already seen a dramatic turnaround in material quality and cabin design inside the smaller QX50 SUV.

Thus, we have high hopes for the QX60, which may include popular family features like a second-row set of captain chairs. These chairs open up access to the 3rd-row and should be a valuable asset on the QX60. We may also witness upscale interior trimmings like leather upholstery, suede accents, and wood.

The tech suite may also be in for a major overhaul. INFINITI is currently testing out 10 and 12-inch touchscreen displays, a digital gauge cluster, and augmented reality features. These tech additions will be a gamechanger for its segment and will even compete with the likes of high-tech German rivals like Mercedes or Audi.

Currently, most INFINITI models sport a dual-touchscreen setup that only looks impressive on paper. The QX60 will include all the modern connectivity features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, onboard Wi-Fi, Amazon Alexa integration, and SiriusXM satellite radio. Still, we have to wait for the launch of the production model to get an official list of all the added tech features.

It is a tough duel between the INFINITI QX60 and the Buick Enclave for supremacy in the interior dimensions. But the QX60 suffers from cramped legroom in the 3rd-row like most SUVs in its class. We hope INFINITI addresses this issue in the 2022 QX60. Major infotainment features include:-

  • Impressive infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple Carplay support
  • Digital gauge cluster
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • 6-speaker audio system, including AM/FM/CD with MP3 playback capability, Radio Data System, and speed-sensitive volume control
  • Optional Bose 13-speaker Premium Audio system

2022 Infiniti QX60 Exterior

The new 2022 INFINITI QX60 will entirely be based on the QX60 Monograph Concept. This concept car introduces a whole new design language for the SUV, which completely transforms its structure. The new design focuses on the Japanese concept of ‘Ma’, which represents a sense of minimalism. The front fascia is adorned with skinner headlights and a large mesh grille.

The body looks elegant with the smoothly sculpted panels. The rear center of gravity has been raised for a more athletic stance and the full-width taillights complement the look. The whole result is a breathtaking SUV from every angle.

The QX60’s exterior dimensions are on par with all of its rivals in its segment. We expect some marginal changes in the exterior dimensions of the QX60 so that it maintains the harmonic proportions of a midsize SUV. Major Exterior Features include:-

  • LED Daytime Running Lights
  • Power-sliding tinted glass moonroof with one-touch auto-open/close, tilt feature, and sliding sunshade
  • Front door handle courtesy lights
  • Power-folding, heated outside mirrors with integrated turn signal
  • UV-reducing solar glass

2022 Infiniti QX60 Safety

Since the 2022 QX60 is just a concept car right now, no crash testing agency has undertaken any safety tests on it. The previous year’s iteration hasn’t been tested yet either. However, we do know that the new QX60 will be rocking the Japanese automaker’s latest iteration of its intuitive ProPilot Assist system. With the host of another active safety tech, the new INFINITI QX60 will be one of the safest SUVs on the road. Major safety features include:-

  • Forward collision warning with automated emergency braking
  • Lane centering system
  • Advanced Cruise Control
  • Lane departure warning with lane-keeping assist
  • Semi-autonomous driving mode
  • Traffic light recognition system
  • The backup collision intervention system

2022 Infiniti QX60 Competition

2022 INFINITI QX60 vs 2021 Acura MDX

The Acura MDX and the INFINITI QX60 are almost neck-to-neck in the performance charts, with the latter emerging as the winner by a fine margin. The Acura had the upper hand over the QX60 with its Super Handling-AWD setup. However, INFINITI came up with a stern reply of its own, in the form of its all-new Intelligent AWD setup.

The QX60’s new tech suite appears to be on par with the likes of Mercedes and Audi, while the MDX has a decent tech suite as well. Overall, this is a very close competition between these two Japanese marquees. Still, the new QX60 might just creep in as the winner here.

2022 INFINITI QX60 vs 2021 Buick Enclave

The Enclave has the advantage over the QX60 in the power charts with more horsepower on the sprint. However, power comes at a sacrifice of fuel efficiency, as the QX60 happily shows its superiority over the Enclave in the fuel economy sector.

The Enclave shows its dominance in the cargo department, with any SUVs' most available cargo space in its segment. Inside, both the SUVs feature a well-appointed cabin and tech suite. Safety-wise, the QX60’s new ProPilot Assist offers it a clear edge over the Enclave, which is missing some standard safety features. Both these SUVs are evenly matched, although we would prefer the sexier looks of the QX60.

2022 INFINITI QX60 vs 2021 Cadillac XT5

The Cadillac XT5 is a fine gem of a midsize SUV with its refined engine and stylish design. However, the QX60 has a clear edge over the XT5 while pulling heavy loads. Both SUVs offer about the same fuel economy. The XT5 is easier to maneuver while parking than the QX60, but its larger turning radius makes it equally difficult to get out of tight spots.

The QX60 is definitely the better choice for hauling passengers thanks to its larger seating capacity and interior dimensions. Both the SUVs are well-matched with their intuitive tech suite. In a nutshell, if you want to chauffeur passengers around, the QX60 is definitely the right choice or you may be better off with the XT5 if you travel within a small circle.

2022 Infiniti QX60 Final Verdict

The reimagined 2022 INFINITI QX60 certainly delivers on all of the promises made to its customer base. The QX60 hits the ball out of the park with its stylish exterior design. The SUV is also going through a renaissance in its interiors, technology, powertrain, and safety suite to place it at a more upmarket position in its segment.

Although the brand hasn’t revealed all the exciting bits coming to the QX60, the midsize SUV has already created a lot of hype among the audience with its 2022 incarnation. With rivals like the Acura MDX also upping their game for 2022, the all-new QX60 just looks like the right recipe for success for the Japanese stalwart.
