The Jaguar F-Pace gets some major upgrades for 2021 including a mild redesign inside out. The exterior design changes are very minimal and there is hardly any eye-catching difference when compared with the 2020 version. However, upon closer inspection, you could find that the grille has become slightly larger and the headlights, as well as taillamps, have been made to look bolder. On the inside, the main addition is the new Pivi Pro infotainment unit consisting of an 11.4-inch curved-glass center touchscreen that is bigger and brighter than last year’s unit. OTA updates have also been included in the list of new features.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The F-Pace S is available with the standard base Inline-4 engine which remains unchanged while Jaguar has added a new powertrain which is exclusively available with the F-Pace S. The P 340 powertrain consists of a stronger supercharged, turbocharged Inline-6 engine which further consists of a 48-volt starter-generator system making it a mild hybrid. Pricing starts at $53,895 for the F-Pace S with the base P250 powertrain while the P340 model with the stronger engine would start at $59,395. The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace competes with the Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43, BMW X3 M40i, and the Audi SQ5

2021 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV Features

The F Pace S is a single trim, but it is offered with two powertrain options. The base S version comes equipped with the base P250 powertrain that came in the base F-Pace variant. The P250 S consists of a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 while the higher-end P340 S trim comes with a new, stronger supercharged, turbocharged Inline-6 engine. 8-speed automatic transmission and an AWD drivetrain are standard while the feature-set remains the same whereas the higher-end P340 S features Adaptive Dynamics with Configurable Dynamics as an extra feature.

The available packages which are called Packs by Jaguar include the Hot Climate Pack that adds 4-zone climate control and some extra features and the Cold Climate Pack that adds a heated windshield and steering wheel along with headlight power wash. The Convenience Pack and the Premium Interior Upgrade Pack are also available packages that increase interior comfort and luxury. These packages are available with both variants while the base P250 variant could be equipped with the Dynamic Handling Pack that adds Adaptive Dynamics with Configurable Dynamics which is a standard feature in the higher variant.

We Recommend

The base P250 S itself is a great package, but the P340 S offers a stronger powertrain with the same feature set at an increased price. The P340 powertrain is more responsive and a greater amount of power is offered and enables it to match up with the very much capable competitors in the segment.

2021 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV Engine and Performance

There are two powertrain options available with the S trim. The base P250 powertrain variant is available in an S trim and that variant comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-4 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. This setup produces 246 hp and 269 lb-ft maximum power and torque. The higher S version comes with the P340 powertrain that consists of a stronger 3.0 L Inline-6 turbocharged and supercharged MHEV engine mated to the same 8-speed automatic, generating 335 hp and 354 lb-ft. Both the powertrains are powerful and the S trim generally comes with a great feature set.

The P250 engine takes 6.9 seconds to attain a speed of 60 mph and is limited to a speed of and is limited to top speed of 135mph while the P340 can reach 60mph 5.8 seconds and could go up to 149 mph. The P340 S further comes with Configurable Dynamics as a standard feature that allows you to configure the vehicle's throttle mapping, gearbox shift points, steering settings, and suspension to suit your specific driving style. This is an optional feature in the base trim. Although the F-Pace S is a capable and powerful model, at the price it is offered, there are much more powerful SUVs on offer which would seem to be a better deal.

The Mercedes AMG GLC 43 is the strongest, most powerful, best performer here while the BMW X3 M40i is the true winner. The X3 M40i is offered at a much lower price compared to the rest of the competitors. The Merc is the fastest while the BMW closely follows the AMG whereas the Jaguar even with the stronger powertrain is the weakest and slowest machine here. The Mercedes is the most expensive one here, but it justifies the price with its immense power output and speed while the Jaguar which is the second most expensive SUV happens to be a disappointment for that price.

How well does the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S Drive and Handle?

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S offers engaging and breathtaking handling and it is a blissful experience to drive around. The Adaptive Dynamics system included in the higher powertrain model and optional with the base variant monitors the wheel position and body movements of the machine hence delivering better driving dynamics as well as ride quality. The system constantly analyses acceleration, steering, throttle, and brake pedal activity while the electronically controlled dampers adjust around 100 times a second to optimize the suspension settings and provide the optimum balance between comfort, refinement, and agility.

There is also an available Adaptive Surface Response (AdSR) feature that would cost you around $150. This system as per Jaguar constantly monitors the vehicle's environment and adjusts the engine and brake settings accordingly. AdSR works at all speeds to adjust accordingly in adverse weather conditions as well as through challenging road surfaces. Overall the F-Pace S is an impressively capable machine offering sport-car-like handling and driving dynamics enabling you to enjoy the driving experience to the extreme.

How efficient is the braking performance of the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S?

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace comes with a strong set of brakes that could bring it to a stop at a respectable distance. The brake pedal’s feel is good and there is a strong and progressive bite. The F-Pace also comes equipped with Torque Vectoring by Braking, which is a technology that helps you tackle corners effectively. While going through the corner, braking is applied to the inside front and rear wheels, and the system provides better stability and ensures that the SUV doesn’t roll over or slip. The F-Pace S comes to a stop from 70mph at 183 ft which is not an impressive distance but is okay.

The Audi SQ5 comes equipped with the most capable set of brakes while the Jaguar F-Pace is the slowest to come to a halt. The Mercedes also come with a great set of brakes while the BMW is also better than the Jag. The Jaguar fails to impress in the braking department with its mediocre stopping power.

2021 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV Fuel Economy

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace outputs impressive fuel economy numbers even from the stronger Inline-6 engine. The F-Pace S delivers 20mpg in the city, 27 on the highway, and a combined efficiency of 22mpg. These figures as we can see are impressive and combined with a large 21.7-gallon fuel capacity, the F-Pace S could go up to 477 miles in combined road and driving conditions without a refill. These are among the best fuel-economy figures in the segment.

Range (City/Highway/Combined, in Miles)

The BMW is the most efficient one here while the Mercedes and Audi deliver the lowest efficiency figures. The Jaguar performs very well in the fuel economy department while considering the fact that the X3 is much faster than the Jaguar makes it the actual winner here. But the BMW lacks range due to the smallest capacity fuel tank which the F-Pace provides a lot more. Overall the F-Pace and the X3 excel here, however, the Jaguar is the overall better choice.

2021 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV Interior

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S comes with a beautiful-looking interior with an engineered wood veneer on the dashboard which could also be opted in three other finishes including A natural Burl Ash veneer which looks impressive. available in three distinct trim options which are Ebony, Light Oyster, and Caraway while the seats are also trimmed in these shades. The F-Pace comes with heated, 12-way adjustable, perforated grained leather seats as standard while heated and ventilated 16-way adjustable perforated Windsor leather seats are optional. The headliner comes in Morzine as standard which is upgradable to suede cloth.

There is an ample amount of space on the inside and the seats are comfortable and supportive. The rid quality is impressive, but if you opt for 22-inch wheels it might get a little too uncomfortable as every undulation on the road would be felt inside. The cabin’s noise isolation is somewhere the F-Pace took another hit as even though it is pretty silent, it is not up to the mark as the other luxury SUVs in the competition. In conclusion, the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S comes with a spacious and luxurious interior with a few minor setbacks.

Rear Row (Headroom/Shoulder Room/Leg Room, in inches)

Cargo Capacity (cu-ft)

The 2021 Mercedes AMG GLC 43 has the best-looking, most luxurious interior while the F-Pace has the most updated-looking one. The Mercedes however, lacks cargo room while the Jaguar has the largest boot. The BMW and Audi come with a similar-looking luxurious interior that showcases an impressive blend between being luxurious and technologically advanced. Overall, all these machines offer a beautiful-looking interior while the Mercedes looks the most elegant. The following are the standout interior features in the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace-

  • Satin Chrome gearshift paddles
  • Grained Leather seats with Diamond perforated and embossed Jaguar Leaper
  • Start-up sequence with movement, dials, and lighting
  • Glovebox finisher with Jaguar script
  • Two-zone Climate Control
  • Metal cargo space scuff plate

How intuitive is the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S’s infotainment unit?

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S received some major updates to its infotainment system. The car comes with an all-new Pivi Pro 11.4-inch Touchscreen with a newly designed interface with intelligent navigation with real-time traffic information, 2D and 3D map with automatic updates, fast start-up, and artificial Intelligence. While it looks good and is easy to use, it doesn’t seem that they have perfected it yet as there are some bugs present here and there. But this new system comes with OTA updates which could fix all this in the future. The standard audio system is a 12-speaker Meridian unit with a dual-channel amplifier and 400W amplifier power which sounds amazing. The following are the standout infotainment features inside the F-Pace S-

  • Pivi Pro with 11.4-inch Touchscreen
  • Online Pack with Data Plan
  • Meridian Sound System
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Wireless device charging with phone signal booster
  • Dynamic Volume Control
  • Sirius XM satellite radio and HD radio

2021 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV Exterior

The F-Pace looks impressive from the outside with the sleek yet bold design language accentuating its sportiness. The front-end features a larger grille for 2021 while minor enhancements have been made to the structure of the bonnet as well. But overall the F-Pace looks just about the same as last year. The F-Pace is a bit larger than the competitors but it doesn’t affect its maneuverability. The wheels are standard 19-inch alloys which look pretty good while there are two other styles of the same size available as options for a minimal cost along with larger 20, 21, or even 22-inch alloys of various styles if you choose to spend more. Jaguar also offers a Black Exterior Pack for $375 that would blacken out many of the chrome elements on the exterior giving the F-Pace a more stealthy vibe.

The F-Pace is offered in only two basic, free-of-cost color choices that are Narvik Black and Fuji White. Then there are seven metallic and two premium metallic shades offered followed by fifteen SVO premium palette shades that would cost you around $4.5k while some of them could be opt-in a satin matte finish which would add another $2,860. Expensive, right? But listen to this, topping off above all of these options is a Special Effect Icy White shade that would set you back by around $10k for the glossy finish and more than $12k for the satin matte finish which is too expensive considering the price of the vehicle. But overall the F-Pace is a beautiful and sporty-looking machine that is classy and premium at the same time.

There are no ugly machines on this list. All of these machines are from highly renowned premium brands and they all look good in their distinctive style. Choosing one based on exterior beauty would be a subjective decision. However, the Jaguar is the largest one among these and that large footprint makes it the heaviest while it also comes with the most ground clearance. Just the opposite is the case with the Mercedes as it offers the least clearance and is the lightest one here. The following are the prominent exterior feature of the 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S-

  • 19" Style 5103, 5 spoke, Gloss Black with contrast Diamond Turned finish
  • Premium LED headlights with signature DRL

2021 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV Competition

2021 Jaguar F-Pace S vs 2021 Mercedes-Benz AMG GLC 43

The Mercedes AMG GLC 43 is the most powerful, fastest contender here. It comes with a gloriously beautiful interior with all sorts of luxury. The Jaguar is a little more spacious and offers a much larger cargo area along with better fuel economy figures as well as range. The Mercedes however, is the overall better choice. It is more capable, comfortable, has a better-looking, more premium, and quieter cabin for a very competitive price.

2021 Jaguar F-Pace S vs 2021 BMW X3 M40i

The 2021 BMW X3 M40i is definitely the best option here. It is significantly less expensive than the Jaguar and stands at a price point in between the P250 and P 340 powertrains. The M40i is more powerful and faster than the Jag while also having a quieter cabin. The fuel efficiency of the BMW is also just as good as the F-Pace S making it a sweeter deal. The Jaguar is slightly more spacious while in all other regards the X3 M40i is the better choice.

2021 Jaguar F-Pace S vs 2021 Audi SQ5

The 2021 Audi SQ5 is also slightly more powerful and faster than the Jaguar F-Pace. It comes with some major updates for 2021 including an updated infotainment unit. The SQ5 is a sleek-looking machine offering superb handling and a luxurious interior. The tech inside is also intuitive and easy to use while the cabin is quiet, spacious, and comfortable. The ride quality is also very much impressive and overall the SQ5 is the better option compared to the Jaguar.

2021 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV Final Verdict

The 2021 Jaguar F-Pace S is a capable machine that adds a lot more features to the base F-Pace while also offering a more powerful engine choice. It is a capable machine but lacks the punch to compete with the prominent competitors in the segment. The Jaguar has a spacious interior with lots of room for cargo and it handles with extreme precision and is engaging to drive. But the infotainment system could have been better and the cabin could have been quieter. Overall it is a great option in the segment but fails to impress as there are more powerful and capable machines offered at a very similar price.
