Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

For the 2022 model year, the Jaguar F-Pace S comes in a single trim with two engine options to go for. The Jaguar F-Pace S prices start at $54,895 for the P250 AWD trim and cross $60,395 for the P340 AWD trim. At this pricing, the 2022 F-Pace S will mainly be going against the likes of the 2021 BMW X3 M40i, the 2021 Audi SQ5 Premium 55 e Quattro, and the 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC43.

The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S comes in only a single trim level but gets two engine options to choose from. The base P250 trims come with a turbocharged four-cylinder, and the price for this trim starts at $54,895. The second version comes with a turbocharged inline-6, namely the P340, which will set you back around $60,395. Both engines come coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and will only be offered in an all-wheel-drive format. Also, the P340 option does come with a mild hybrid assisting system for enhanced performance and efficiency.

As for the features, since this SUV is a carryover model from the previous year, it will mostly sport an identical spec sheet. On the outside, the SUV will get Premium LED headlights with signature DRLs, powered tailgate, and 19-inch wheels will come in as standard. The cabin will also get a whole host of creature comfort tech and gizmos, including an 11.4-inch infotainment system, 12-way power-adjustable seats, wireless phone charging system, ambient lighting, and a 12.3-inch digital drivers display.

Which trim should you buy?

The 2022 F-Pace S is expected to come in a single trim with two engine options to choose from. We say that you spend the extra money and go for the P340 variant. Not only are you getting a powerful engine, but it also feels significantly smoother and less strained in real-world usage. Also thanks to the incorporation of a mild hybrid system, the throttle response feels sharper, and you could pull it off with the higher displacement without compromising much on the economy figures.

Release date

Even though there is no official word on the timing, some dealerships have already started offering personal configurators for the 2022 model year SUV. Based on that, the new model year should come on dealership floors by this fall and deliveries will start in the final quarter.

Engine and Performance

The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S comes with the same powertrain units that came in the 2021 F-Pace S. The base powertrain is a turbocharged four-cylinder, whereas a more powerful 3.0L Turbocharged inline-6 engine with an MHEV system assisting it is also present. The 3.0L unit produces a total of 335 horsepower and 354 lb-ft. of torque, which is pretty impressive for an SUV. All of the torque output can be utilized right from the lower rev range starting from 1,500 rpm, which makes the F-Pace S a quick and nimble SUV on the road thanks to the hybrid assist.

The powertrain unit comes mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission unit that is quick through the gears and always sets the right gear for you according to your driving characteristic and mode selected. The drivetrain unit is an AWD system that makes sure that the F-Pace S gets out of tough terrains and off-road situations with ease, just like its Land Rover siblings. The F-Pace S has a 0-60 mph acceleration figure of 5.1 seconds and can cover a quarter-mile distance from a standstill in just 13.6 seconds, which is quite impressive.

The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S does fall short when compared to the competition. With the slowest clocked time of 5.8 secs, the F-Pace S is at least a second slower than the slowest car in this comparison. The BMW posted a blistering time of 4.4 seconds, which is insane, considering it is one of the heaviest of the bunch, and that Pace does continue till the quarter-mile as well. Both Audi and the Merceded post similar times to the 60 mph runs, but the Merc pulls in on the quarter-mile. The F-Pace S is also the slowest to hit the quarter-mile.

Fuel Economy

Thanks to the hybrid powertrain unit, the 2022 F-Pace S offers a decent fuel economy, with the combined fuel economy figure being 22 MPG and the fuel economy in city and highway driving conditions being 20 and 27 MPG, respectively. With 21.7 gallons of fuel tank, the Jaguar F-Pace S has the largest tank capacity in the segment which helps it offer the best in class range in the segment without a doubt. The F-Pace S delivers a combined range of 477.4 miles and a maximum range of 585.9 miles on the highway, which is pretty impressive for a premium SUV.

The X3 M40i, despite being the heaviest one in this comparison, managed to return the best individual figures in each test, but the tiny 17.2-gallon tank does not work in its favor. However, the 2022 F-Pace S with its mild hybrid system and lower power ratings also manages to stay atop the competition when it comes to range. The F-Pace S is the only SUV in the segment to breach the 500 miles range. The Mercedes with its smaller tank and average numbers stays at the back of the pack in this regard.

The F-Pace’s interior has never failed to surprise us with its simplicity and aesthetics. The interior exudes luxury and has some premium materials used inside to make you feel special every time you step inside an F-Pace. The interior gets a redesign for the 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S. The dashboard design layout is subtle and has some premium leatherette upholstery treatment with a dual-tone option as well. The steering wheel clad in leather upholstery and metal trim insert has a premium feel to it and also has controls for the infotainment as well as a cruise control system. Features like storage sPaces inside the armrest, keyless entry with proximity access, TFT driver information, and dual-zone automatic climate control add to the comfort and convenience of the interior.

2022 Jaguar F-PACE S SUV front seats

The front bucket seats are heated leather seats with a 12-way power-adjustable configuration along with power lumbar support. The seats offer a good amount of comfort and confidence and grip you nicely while driving through sharp turns. The cargo capacity offered by the Jaguar F-Pace S is the largest in its class at 31.5 cubic feet of standard cargo capacity. Fold-down the second-row seats, and you can avail a maximum cargo capacity of 69.1 cubic feet, which is impressive. The tailgate also comes with a remote power release feature to add to the convenience of loading and unloading cargo.

The Audi Q5 seems to offer the best in class interior sPace, and the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 comes pretty close as well. That said, with 31.5 cu.ft of volume at its disposal, no SUV in the segment offers better cargo capacity than the Jaguar F-Pace S, which makes it one of the most practical premium SUVs on sale. The X3 M40i, meanwhile, seems to strike the balance between occupant sPace and cargo room. Some of the notable interior features are:

  • 12-way power-adjustable heated front seats
  • Grained leather upholstered seats
  • Leather upholstered steering wheel with paddle shifters
  • Power cargo access
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • Analog dial with TFT digital drivers display

The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S is arguably one of the best-looking SUVs on sale today. Its tall boy stance, broad wheel arches, subtle exterior bodywork, and attractive lights on the outside make it hard to not stare at an F-Pace S when one passes by. Its exterior styling is subtle yet bold at the same time, and the F-Pace S manages to draw attention on the road without going all flashy like its German competitors.

The F-Pace S gets blacked-out exterior features such as the grille and window surrounds as optional extras, which make it look aggressive along with the large grille and air vents in its front fascia. The all-new automatic on-off LED projector headlamps with the signature daytime running lights and slim LED tail lamps in the rear end add a sporty look to it. The 19-inch 5 spoke gloss black wheels add some aggressiveness to the exterior while maintaining the right proportion and stance.

Wheelbase (inches)

The Jaguar F-Pace S sure has the largest wheelbase in its class, but it has a really good weight distribution and enough driving aids on board to offer you the best handling capabilities and practicality. It also has the largest ground clearance in its class, which makes it easy to get through off-road courses quite easily. The GLC 43 does ride a bit low for comfort, but the lighter chassis makes it feel agile. The BMW, as always, finds the middle ground. Some of the notable exterior features of the 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S include:

  • LED headlamps, tail lamps & DRLs
  • Front & rear fog lights
  • Puddle lamps
  • Power-folding, auto-dimming exterior mirrors
  • Dual exhaust chrome tips
  • Black grille with chrome surround
  • Rear roofline spoiler
  • Black window trim
  • 19-inch gloss black wheels

The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S or its previous model year version haven’t been tested and rated by agencies like the NHTSA or the IIHS for safety, but the F-Pace S has been produced with the best engineering and manufacturing practices to make it as safe as possible. The previous model did come out with a 5-star rating in an independent NCAP crash test.

The chassis’ structural integrity and exterior build quality seem to be on par with the safest SUVs in the segment today, and it also comes with advanced safety aids to make it safer to travel in. These advanced safety aids include features like Blind Spot Monitoring System, Front and Rear Parking Sensors, Emergency Braking and Rear Traffic Monitor, Lane Keep Assist, and Lane Departure Warning to name a few. Some of the notable safety features include:

  • Front and Rear parking aid
  • Rear camera
  • Park Assist
  • 360-degree parking aid
  • Rear Traffic Monitor
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop and Go and Steering Assist
  • Blind Spot Assist
  • High-Speed Emergency Braking
  • Emergency braking
  • Lane Keep Assist and Driver Condition Monitor

2022 Jaguar F-Pace S vs. 2021 BMW X3 M40i

The 2022 F-Pace S is costlier than the BMW X3 M40i as it boasts a mild hybrid system. Despite this, the X3 M40i still manages to be more economical and powerful than the Jaguar. The BMW, on the other hand, offers a better infotainment system and a much more spacious interior. BMW SUVs have always been a benchmark in performance and handling, with the M40i being no exception. You know where we are going with this, and the BMW is hands down the SUV to go for.

2021 BMW X3 M40i

2022 Jaguar F-Pace S vs. 2021 Audi SQ5

While the SQ5 is the powerful one here, the F-Pace S is the most efficient. While the F-Pace S offers better handling and fuel range, the Audi SQ5 clearly has more sPace in the interior and offers a better infotainment system. The Audi SQ5 also is a cheaper option in the segment compared to the F-Pace S. So the decision boils down to what you require and how much you are willing to spend.

2021 Audi SQ5

2022 Jaguar F-Pace S vs. 2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC43

The Mercedes-AMG GLC43 is probably the better handling and performing SUV in this company and possibly has more sPace and features to offer in the interior. However, the Jaguar F-Pace S offers more off-road ability thanks to higher ground clearance and cargo capacity compared to the AMG, which makes it more practical. The decision is tough, but we have to go with the AMG as the F-Pace does not have a great track record when it comes to reliability.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GLC43

Final Verdict

The Jaguar F-Pace is not one of those go-to sporty SUVs in its segment, but it has some tricks up its sleeve to garner your attention. Fuel economy and practicality are places where this SUV aces its competition. The 2022 Jaguar F-Pace S might be on the costlier side in the segment, but it offers great handling, comfort, and dynamic ride quality which are also on par with the segment. The one thing that's working against is the reliability, which is yet to match the competition, so you can be the judge here.
