We recommend

The 2017 Jaguar F Type Convertible is all about royalty and speaks of luxury in a language no car understands. Not to be blunt but if you can afford this car, you should definitely go for the top model i.e. S British Design Edition. The S British Design Edition has all the features and it is loaded with comfort as well as opulence. It has the boost in power, plus a titanium exhaust system, quilted stitching on the leather-covered seats, and a faux suede headliner. It sheds more than 100 pounds and boosts its aerodynamics compared with the R.

When talking about this automobile, we are not looking for the value for money, we are looking at a trim which bleeds efficiency and gives others sleepless nights thinking about your majesty.

Engine

9.4/10

"The trademark raucous Jaguar F-Type performance gets more intense with this year's new SVR edition."-The Car Connection

Engine

Style and performance is one major factor in buying any car and the V8-powered Jaguar F engine delivers both. A lion roars from the engine and exhaust which makes the acceleration breathtaking. The sound is even more fierce, dynamically, with crackles when lifting off the pedals.

Delivering a torque of 502 lb-ft @ 3500 rpm which is sent to the rear wheels through either an eight-speed automatic, the V8 supercharged engine will let you talk to the air and let your hair be blown by the conversation! The eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive are mandatory for all V8 models.

The base trim is powered by a supercharged 3.0-liter V6 engine that produces 340 horsepower and 332 pound-feet of torque. All-wheel drive is available as an option but must be paired with the automatic transmission.

The Lamborghini supports a bigger engine which in turn produces 573 hp which is higher than the Jaguar. On the other hand, the Jaguar produces more torque than its rivals and is 8-speed automatic. You know where to invest your money now!

Acceleration

Wagging its tail when we accelerate hard from a stop, the 2017 Jaguar F Type Convertible feels blisteringly quick. The base and the R convertible reaches 60 mph in 5.2 seconds with the manual transmission while the automatic bested it with a 5.0-second result due to the slight advantage of less weight up front.

Acceleration is strong in any trim of this spectacular car. The V8's throttle at around 60 mph is a stimulating experience. A standard eight-speed automatic transmission with all-wheel drive had the SVR Convertible sprint from 0-60 mph in just 3.5. The time of 2.3 seconds from 50-75 mph makes the driving experience like GTA San Andreas.

Emission (Tons/yr of CO2 Emissions @ 15K mi/year) 9.8 8.4 10.4 11.0

The Lamborghini takes away the trophy of the fastest car among these to home. Giving a difference of 0.2 sec in 0-60 mph and a difference of 0.7 sec in the quarter mile, the Lamborghini is shooting for the moon and landing on it, as well.

Ride and Handling

The juxtaposition of the steering response, amalgamated with faith-boosting levels of grip make it one of the most enthralling cars you'll ever drive. The all-wheel-drive system supports the rear wheels to preserve a sporty feel. On a slippery road and turns, the system sends 50 percent of torque to the front wheels for optimum grip and give you creamy take offs which makes it such a commendable car.

The F Type Convertible also comes with manual transmission whereas the automatic has paddle shifters for driver involvement and gives you the advantage of not changing the gears every now and then in the heavy traffic.

Braking

The 2017 Jaguar F Type Convertible comes with 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes which takes 111 feet to come to a halt from 60 mph. The given static is average in this segment of car.

However, the F-Type R comes with optional carbon-ceramic brakes which are better, halting in just 104 feet.

The Porsche 911 just takes 97 ft to come to a halt, putting behind the Lamborghini Huracan. A difference of 272 lbs of curb weight is observed in these both cars, the Lamborghini being the heavier. And yet, the Porsche halts as if someone suddenly turned on the red traffic lights.

Fuel Economy

7.3/10

The base and the R convertible with V6 engine returns 16 miles per gallon in the city, 24 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in combined driving. Not to state the obvious but if you can afford this luxurious car, you may as well be prepared to get a high bill on gas.

However, the F-TYPE R gives 15 mpg city/23 mpg hwy/18 mpg combined, thanks to it's supercharged V8 engine. Told you this was the better trim!

MPG (city) 15 19 14 14
MPG (highway) 23 24 22 20
MPG (combined) 18 21 17 16

The Porsche impresses us again with it's fuel economy and efficiency. The acceleration and the engine might be low on this automobile but given it's price, we are happy they are still in the competition.

Interior

7.6/10

"Rather than aping the 50-year-old lines of the E-Type, Jaguar's designers crafted a new, modern shape that's still unique to the brand."-KBB

Seating and Comfort

The Jaguar F Type Convertible is made from excellent interior materials and craftsmanship. It cuddly wraps around the driver and passenger. Rather than feeling as though you're sitting in the cockpit, it feels more like you're drowning the car. You may not have enough leg room if you are tall but you would have plenty of headroom. The dashboard and controls seem relatively plain and everything seems to be well put together. The optionally extended leather trim also adds character to the sport seats.

Although, the infotainment system lags with slow responses to inputs and unintuitive menus, the 12-speaker Meridian stereo delivers some groovy tones.

Cargo Capacity

Being a sports car, the 2017 Jaguar F Type Convertible is not generous with cargo space. Providing only 7.3 cubic feet of cargo, the car stands true to its segment. It may accommodate your weekend getaway bags but say goodbye to going to a club on this insatiable machine.

Dimension and weight

Jaguar knows how to make its machine and if its the F Type Convertible, then they know how to weave magic into automobiles. The 2017 Jaguar F Type Convertible oozes elegance and is absolutely a gorgeous machine. Take a dose of sunshine, and you will know this is the classiest sports car with a long hood and a short trunk.

From the 18-inch Alloy wheels to the LED J-Blade daytime running lights, the 2017 Jaguar F Type Convertible embodies a style which speaks for itself. It feels as if it was designed just for the thrilling performance it gives.

The powerful shape of this sports car lets us know about its culture. Aerodynamic performance is integrated into the body for low levels of lift and excellent stability at high speed as if it was sculpted by the wind!

Competition

2017 Jaguar F-Type Convertible vs Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet

If you have $171,500 to spare, you can check out this rarest of beauties. With a 3.8 L twin turbo engine, this beautiful automobile can give you 540 horsepower and can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.6 sec. It takes 13 seconds for its roof to go up or down where as for the jaguar, it is 12 seconds.

This car is luxurious but not efficient as compared to the Jaguar. It comes with a lane change assist system which can be done without. Even with the upgrades, you just get a seat cooling ventilation system which you can buy if you have money to throw in the well.

2017 Jaguar F-Type Convertible vs Audi R8 V10 Quattro Spyder

Giving you a less mileage than the Jaguar on city, highway and combined, this automobile is as beautiful as it may seem. Although it is not as efficient as the Jaguar is, it gives some real tough competition to it.

Audi has given some gorgeous and high-performance models before but this automobile, being a sports car, gives you very less cargo space and a bit less horsepower relative to the Jaguar.

Giving you just a torque of 398 lb-ft, and priced at $175,100 I think you may want to give it a second thought or induce some cold feet to someone who is thinking of buying this.

2017 Jaguar F-Type Convertible vs Lamborghini Huracan Spyder LP 610-4

This is the only sports car which gives a head on head competition to the Jaguar and is priced at double the price of the F type. This car is efficient and in some of the competitions, leave the Jaguar behind but it has no cargo space and goes hard on your wallet and cash.

Not that we are saying this isn't a good car, Lamborghini knows its customers and have satisfied them thoroughly but if we had $262,450 for a sports car, we would have bought the Jaguar F Type Convertible twice. Just saying.

Final Verdict

Only a handful of people can afford sports car and it's no joke when it comes to your hard earned money. But if you are a sucker for pure, decadent luxury and making the crowd hear what a Lion sounds like you should definitely go for this bad boy.

Not only its gorgeous, its cost efficient and won't go hard on your wallet with the gas bill. The horsepower and torque on this machine is just remarkable and it is ladened with comfort. With it's top model for $108,250, you should opt for the automatic transmission because it will keep you from paying visits to service stations and will boost its resale value.
