In the company of the list of F-Types, the Type R is an enthralling piece of machinery with the prowess of a sports powertrain under its hood and a curvaceous styling. Housing the grandeur of Jaguar in its cabin alongside an athletic driving experience, the feline ups its ante with the pops and burbles grumbling under its front-engined layout and at the same time, poses few questios as to why it shouldn’t be your favourite sports car.
The F-type’s R doesn’t sit resting. Indeed, it belongs right in the thick of rivalry with the likes of Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the Porsche 911. Read on to see how the Jaguar fares.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R Features
6.3/10
Coming in 5 different trim levels in coupe and convertible style P300, P340, P380 R-Dynamic, R, and SVR - each further divide into 24 cars, Jaguar has a big convoy. Each trim also offers an 8-speed automatic transmission or a 6-speed manual gearbox.
Starting at $60,750, the P300 is the only trim to features a turbocharged 2.0L inline-4 cylinder mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. With the P340, P380 and R-Dynamic variants, the trims feature a supercharged 3.0L V6 engine with the engine boasting 340 hp for P340 while 380 horses on the other two configurations.
The R-Dynamic is basically a P380 but comes standard with few extra features to bridge the gap to the R trim. The R and SVR include a 5.0L V8 with 550 horses on the former and an increased output of 580 horses on the latter. These two configurations are the sportiest of the lot and come with a host of intended features alongside the manufacturer's prestigious luxury and opulence.

We recommend
The right F-Type is purely a personal choice for the difference between various configurations it offers boils down to your driving preference. Even the inline-4 is a good choice. Having said that, we'd recommend the R-Dynamic trim for it gives a sweet mix of a V6 under the hood along with extra additions of features in the bag.

Engine and Transmission
Powering this beautiful 2-seater is a beefy 5.0L Supercharged V8 mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission. Propelling all wheels of the coupe, the engine has a coarse overtone with rumbling pops and crackles which grossly corresponds with the performance that kicks with each rise in its sonorous revs. It performs with incredible smoothness and swiftly while the acceleration is brisk thanks to its mighty torque. The F-Type's responsive gearbox is controlled via paddle-shifters and each clink and clank while the motors roar up is greatly tuned to providing excellent performance.
The Jaguar's rivals stop it from having the last word; take the Corvette ZR1 for instance this monstrous sports coupe thrashes the competitors with its mighty power unit. Then comes the Nissan GTR alongside the feline coupe. The 6-cylinders of the Porsche 911 produces less output than the competition but is still as quick.

The V8 under the Type R is a roaring rocket and that translates on the tarmac as well. All that power from the 8-cylinders churns out excellent performance, taking 3.4s from naught to 60 miles per hour. On the quarter mile, the motor zips the coupe in 11.7s. The quickest-crown of the lot belongs to the Nissan GTR while the Corvette ZR1 and Jaguar trail each other by merely a margin.

Handling and Braking
The sportiest variant, F-Type R, is also built keeping in mind comfort and athleticism and does exhibit ride quality of a luxury coupe and an athletic 4-wheeler. With adaptive suspension aiding its balanced and stable but firm ride, the coupe glides over bumps and potholes but jumps more than normal when hovering over them. There also exists minor jostling once on extremely undulated tarmac curtailing confidence. Yet its precise and responsive steering only elevates its entertaining ride while also staying exciting.
The Type R's body roll is readily limited and handling around chicanes feels fun and spirited. Soldered to the roadway and barely comes across as a weakling, tame it the way you want and this brute of a coupe is not the one to step down; whether that's cruising down the highway or a visit to your nearest groceries.
The large upgraded 15" brakes on the front and rear are impressive enough to earn the coupe a commendable spot in its competition. Neither mushy nor undulated, the pedals dispense with sensitive braking that are extremely strong, reliable, and stable.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R Fuel Economy
No, not everything about the Jaguar checks the right boxes. The 5.0L powertrain under the hood is a fuel guzzler, drinking 15 miles per gallon in the city and 23 miles on the highway. Moving towards the German make, the Porsche 911 gulps lesser gas albeit holding a 6-cylinder. The other V8's in the competition run parallel to the Jaguar where only the LC 500 performs a tad better.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R Interior
7.0/10
"The F-Type's interior is attractive and user-friendly, but outward visibility is limited all around. Climbing in and out of the cabin can be an issue for taller drivers, and wider folks will feel a bit confined once inside. Most cars in this class are easier to live with." -edmunds
Seating and Comfort
Inside the F-Type R, space is a compromise you will have to make while aesthetically paralleling luxury and sport. Sewn R performance leather seats alongside R-branded leather steering wheel with leather trim and quality finish make up the cabin. Seating 2, the coupe is anything but your family car or let's say, cosy; the posh seats are comfortable but headspace and legroom confine tall or pasengers of larger stature to a restricted enclosure.
The low-build of the coupe poses a problem for tall passengers to get in or out, and the confined space inside it would cause a bit of discomfort for someone like Terry Crews. The enclosed structure next to the thick front pillars and high-mounted rear windows, alongside a drop in the front nose, all combine to induce another issue - poor outward visibility.

Infotainment System
While seemingly reasonable cabin gives way to a decent interior, the infotainment system on the Jaguar R is another case altogether. The latest 10" touchscreen with navigation system is an upgrade from the previous year, but is still not the coupe's forte resulting in mediocre performance and user interface. Also, another big downfall is that the trim doesn't include voice recognition. Adding to the dismay, the technology of the system feels inferior to its rivals. Some standard features include
Sirius XM Satellite radio & HD radio
Bluetooth Connectivity
Navigation Pro system
Meridian Sound System
Cargo Volume
Practicality is not really the F-Type's forte. Welcome a paltry 7.3 cubic feet for storage in the back while its rivals such as the AMG E 53 offers 10 relatively better but just not good enough for a coupe. The GTS holds a decent 9.7 cubic feet that rivals podium spot with the E 53. The Stingray has an excellent cargo space at 15 cubic feet, taking the top spot for the most commodious coupe in the field.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R Exterior
"We hope to age as well as the 2020 Jaguar F-Type." -thecarconnection
Dimension and weight
The new F-Type comes virtually unchanged from its previous iteration. Sat alongside 4 20" 5 spoke wheels, the coupe is a modern design infused with classic touch. The feline coupe's advanced craftsmanship is delicately moulded with smooth character lines, sporty bumpers and side skirts along with subtle detail, all culminating to the elegance of the aerodynamic sculpture of the coupe.
When viewed from any angle, the sleek and sexiness is tasteful and profound. Measuring 176" in length, the coupe perches 4" from the ground, shorter than most coupe's in the competition. It weighs 3800 pounds, again beaten by the Cayman by almost 500 pounds.

2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R Competition
Jaguar F-Type vs Chevrolet Corvette
Monstrosity seems to favour the Chevrolet Corvette more than the F-Type loud and bashing engine squealing the tires on the track with roaring exhaust rumble. The Corvette pulls many tricks up its sleeve when it comes to performance and hands down has the best interior yet. However the Jaguar is an English snob with pops and rumbles of its own but just not as quick or zippy as the Corvette.
What it does exceedingly better is show what opulence and luxurious the interior can be, something the Amercian lags behind. All in all, the Corvette is your go-to if performance over luxury matters. Else, the Jaguar is a rather refined Englishman.
Jaguar F-Type vs Porsche 911
A multifaceted coupe, the Porsche 911 is the Jaguar F-Type if the English feline got its handling refined and interior further more polished. The F-Type is basically a more affordable alternate to the 911 and it has no issue showing that off. They both house similar powertrains, and sport-luxury features. However the Jaguar is still an excellent performer, houses beautiful interior and a gorgeous exterior design. Want a 911 but can't afford the additional bills? The F-Type is your car.
2020 Jaguar F-TYPE R Final Verdict
Getting right down to business is the sexy head-turning feline growing through its exhausts on a loud and throaty note. Its mighty powertrain alongside a grand list of luxurious features make it a worthy competitor, if not, a notable buy. However, its lavish gulping of fuel, substandard trunk space and a subpar infotainment system seem like a let down. Yet, considering its exotic design and a commendable driving experience, it does give its rivals a run for their money.
