There is nothing wrong with the sportiness-craving in the midst of fuel-economy orientation and if you belong to that enthusiast community then the coupes might be an area of your propensity. Sleek, attractive, high-thrust, and pure-class simply define this segment. In the world of coupes, the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe is one of those which has got that noise with its V8 to get others’ attention.

The 2021 F-type R coupe has been adorned with high-tech ends, advanced safety features, and some new upgrades in the powertrain unit that might be tempting. It goes straight against the market of the BMW M850i, Nissan GT-R Premium, and the Mercedes-AMG GT with a starting price of $103,200.

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Features

What one can expect from a top-dog brand with its top-notch trim? Probably, an ooze of satiation. As far as the F-Type R is concerned, it certainly falls under this margin. Being a gem of sportiness, it has an absolute set of features that are worth making it so expensive. The Dynamics of the coupe are adaptive and easily configurable. The F-Type R has got Dynamic Stability Control and Electronic Brake-force Distribution which together work to improve the responsiveness of the overall memory-based steering.

At last but certainly not the least is the Tire Repair System that comes as a standard and can be handy on multiple occasions.

Which Trim should you buy in the 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe?

The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe is capable of giving you throbbing while remaining in its class. The sheer power and the safety nudge are exemplary. The options packs like the Climate Pack, Blind-Spot Assist Pack along the Driver Condition Monitor are among those that add up to its diversification. The torque-vectoring one gets at the wheel is also supportive of its high-speed maneuvering. Though, it is expensive yet not so expensive for its segment and is a viable one to relish.

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The performance curve is definitely the most awaited section for sports cars. The powertrain, drivetrain, layout along with other parameters are not just numbered but a reflection of supremacy. In light of this matter, the Jaguar F-Type R Coupe gets a 5.0 L V8 Intercooled Supercharged engine that kicks in 575 hp of power @ 6500 RPMs and 516 lb-ft of torque @ 3500 RPMs. The supercharging compresses the air in the intake runner that helps it achieve high volumetric efficiency. As a result, it takes an exhilarating 3.7 seconds for the 0-60 mph mark and 11.7 seconds for a quarter-mile.

The overall analysis directs us towards the fact that, though The F-type R is fast the 2021 Nissan GT-R Premium is even faster. Nicknamed as the “Godzilla”, the GT-R gets the best of all, thanks to its twin-turbo that not only reduces the turbo lag but increases the combustion efficiency at the same time. The Mercedes-AMG GT might not be the quickest but certainly the fastest among all in the straight stretch.

How well does the 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe handle?

The Jaguar F-Type R is without a doubt a responsive coupe that has an array of components that ensures the same. Counting the double-wishbone suspensions both at the rear and front perfectly manages the sway and the body leaning. In addition to that, the Electronic Brake-force Distribution and torque vectoring at the wheels compensate for the unexpected simultaneous turning and braking.

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe ride and handling

The Jaguar F-Type R, being a coupe, has a lower center of gravity. The all-aluminum unibody chassis is not just light but can dissipate the crash force instead of absorbing them, unlike steel panels. Hence, the lightweight feather with sets of adaptive dynamics offers you smooth handling.

2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe Braking Performance

Braking is as important as performance, as there is no point in going fast if you can’t command it. It is a domain that takes bits and pieces of all in its account including right from the weight distribution to the rotor sizing. The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe gets 15” front and 14.8” rear ventilated rotors with a 4-wheel ABS. The system does include the Electric Parking Brake and Electronic Brake-force Distribution in its enclosure.

As per data, the braking distance for the F-Type R is not available but Nissan GT-R is indicative that the travel can be as low as 94 ft when brought to a halt from 60-0 mph. It is also evident that the GT-R gets one of the biggest rotors among the rivals. The AMG GT, unlike its top speed, is not at all dominant within its sphere of braking, it seems.

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Fuel Economy

7.3/10

If one is driven by the fact and urge for the need of speed, he/she cannot be at the mercy of fuel economy. One has to give up the “goods” of the economy for the “greats” of acceleration. The 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe like its other rival is fairly underwhelming in its economy. It offers 16 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on the highway, and 18 mpg overall. With a fuel tank of 18.5 gallons, one can ex[ect to go as far as 444 miles but it is definitely not long hauling machinery.

On the basis of the table mentioned above, the BMW M850i is expected to have a relatively lower fuel appetite with 20 mpg on average. It offers the highest range among them as well. The GT-R has a large fuel tank that allows it to have a comparable range to the BMW M850i. But as has been mentioned earlier, this specific segment does not deem fit for a conclusion over a sports car.

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Interior

7.0/10

The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe is compelling with its 4-way lumbar, cushion-tilt performance seats that are available in various trims which include the Tan-Windsor, Mars Red Windsor, Ebony Windsor Leatherettes with their respective interior accents. It does get the 12-way heated and cooled memory front seats as well.

Apart from the aforementioned functionalities, it gets an additional interior pack with which you can avail of the Satin Black steering wheel spokes & switch bezels, Gloss Black cluster binnacle finisher, and many more. The other important aspect that needs to be mentioned is its interior spacing that seems to be a little compromised. The trunk space could have been given some extra cubic feet. The Nissan GT-R is even more cramped than the F-type R. A few of the features are:

  • Delta, Knurl, and Vee Aluminum Center Console
  • Tan-Windsor, Mars Red Windsor, Ebony Windsor Leatherettes
  • Satin Black steering wheel spokes & switch bezels
  • Light Oyster Carpet mats

What’s there to keep you entertained in the 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe?

Keeping the audio aside, one gets an opportunity to experience Dynamic Volume Control.

Apart from these, SiriusXM satellite radio, HD radio, Bluetooth connectivity, Android Auto, and Apple CarPlay come as a standard. Connected Navigation Pro and 12 v socket in the center console further extend the infotainment line up. Some of the highlights in this section are:

  • Meridian Sound System
  • 10" Touch Pro
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Connected Navigation Pro
  •  Bluetooth connectivity

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Exterior

9.0/10

Amazingly attractive, if one has to put it in layman’s terms. The Jaguar F-Type R Coupe gets its appearance in Metallic finishes like Indus Silver, Firenze Red, and SV Premiums like Sunset Gold and Deep Desire Red. One can have either a body-colored or a panoramic roof. It can shed over the 20" Gloss Black with contrast Diamond Turned finish wheels or the 20" Satin Grey wheels. The front has grille inserts with an F-TYPE badge and the rear is characterized by the boot lid spoiler which is offered in the additional packages.

There are various packages that can enhance the exterior finish by a mile. The Black Exterior Pack, and the Exterior Design Pack are among the names of a few. The dimensions do have their own sense in the coupe. One of the lightest with the smallest wheelbase and compactness can vouch for the ease of handling for the F-Type R. The AMG GT is pretty much comparable to the F-Type R in terms of its wheelbase and other boundary limits. Some of the exterior features are:

  • Exterior Design Pack
  • Boot lid spoiler
  •  20" Satin Grey wheels
  • Solar attenuating windshield
  • Powered tailgate

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Safety

8.1/10

The Jaguar F-Type R has an all-aluminum unibody construction which is well-suited to deflect the impact forces. The aluminum, being brittle, deforms at the impact stress concentration area and hence the crash energy does not travel to the passenger cabin at all. The steel panels rather absorb such impact energy and that is where such aluminum frames have an edge. Therefore, the structural integrity of the 2021 Jaguar F-Type R is well-cemented.

The frame is then assisted by advanced safety features like the Cruise Control, Dynamic Stability Control, Emergency Brake Assist, and Lane Keep Assist. The list has other features as well like the Front and Rear Parking Aid, Rear Camera, and Traffic Sign Recognition. There are some other additional packages like the Blind-Spot Assist which has other subsets of value additions. The highlights of this section are:

  • Emergency Brake Assist
  • Cruise Control
  • Blind-Spot Assist
  • Adaptive Speed Limiter

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Competition

2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe vs. 2021 BMW M850i

The F-Type R and the M850i, both are high performers in this segment but each of them seems to edge over one another in some of the departments. On one hand, where the F-Type has a higher top speed. On the other hand, the BMW has a better power-fuel economy trade-off. After that, the M850i comes with better trunk space but the all-aluminum frame puts the F-type in a lighter category.

2021 BMW M850i

2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe vs. 2021 Nissan GT-R Premium

The Nissan GT-R is a pure monster and is relatively a better option than the F-type R in the slightest of the margin. Better acceleration, power distribution, and 4-seating capacity make it a more sporty-cum-practical option. In terms of driver ergonomics, it has better spacing available. The F-type has a better trunk space and a compact boundary limit but those hardly make any difference.

2021 Nissan GT-R Premium

2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe vs. 2021 Mercedes-AMG GT

The AMG GT and the F-Type R are pretty much parallel to one another on the whole. They are comparable in their dimensions and the 0-60 mph mark. Although both of them are 2-seater, the AMG GT has better spacing in the first row and more cargo volume available at its disposal. The F-type meanwhile has better fuel efficiency and quarter-miles. Therefore, both of them can be put in the same frame.

2021 Mercedes-AMG GT

2021 Jaguar F-TYPE R Coupe Final Verdict

The 2021 Jaguar F-Type R Coupe is without any hesitation a top pick in the segment. It is well within the price range and offers more than what is expected from a sports car. It is true that the Nissan GT-R is a better option but the widening gap is diminishing every successive gap and thus with additional packages installed, it is well-suited machinery that will add charm to your portfolio.
