Detailed Review

Performance, comfort and refinement ; the Jaguar F-Type SVR delivers everything that you can expect from a luxury sports car. The F-Type is an interesting piece of marvel from the British manufacturer that looks somewhat like the legendary Jaguar XK-E. It looks aggressive with sharp and edgy design through-out along with the exquisite interior making sure that you never get the hang of it.

With a base price of $125,950, the 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe might look expensive but you get what you pay for. The F-Type receives a 5-liter supercharged V8 engine coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. It delivers a berserk performance along with the alluring sound of the engine. The comfort and convenience take a toll, but for performance-biased drivers, these exceptions will not matter for a long while.

There are not many supercars in the market that offer you the blend of performance and interior at this price. The Jaguar SVR competes with the likes of 2 of the most loved supercars ; the Porsche 911 turbo and Mercedes-Benz AMG GT S.

We recommend

The Jaguar SVR Coupe is a power packed car that won’t let you down on the road when you feel like pushing down the throttle. It is by far the fastest car in the history of Jaguar. It comes pretty much equipped but if you have more to spend you can go for some optional equipment like the carbon-ceramic brakes or the carbon fiber roof that sheds some more of its weight.

8.5/10

As the first Jag to feature extensive work done by Jaguar Land Rover's Special Vehicle Operations performance skunk works, the SVR is indeed quicker packing a 575-horsepower supercharged V-8.- Cnet

Engine and Transmission

The 5-liter Supercharged engine of the Jaguar is responsible for the generation 575 horsepower output and an even better torque of 516 pound-feet because of its new hood vents and intercoolers that allows it to breathe more freely. The 8-speed automatic transmission is now quicker and alters the launch control for better acceleration from the stop.

Powerful than the rest, the F-Type dominates the table with a huge 575 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. It is followed by the mighty Porsche 911 Turbo that generates 540 horsepower and 486-pound-feet of torque. The Mercedes Benz AMG GT S proves to be the car with the least powerful engine with an output of 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque.

Acceleration

The transmission tweaks the torque vectoring rear differential, while the all-wheel-drive system and stability control work together in achieving the fast acceleration for the F-Type. It shoots pretty quick when you put that throttle down. The F-Type and the Mercedes Benz share the similar 0-60 mph timing of 3.5 seconds, both of them falling behind than the fastest 911 Turbo that does it in just 2.9 seconds!

The Porsche maintain its speed over the quarter-mile as well and ends up covering the distance in 11.1 seconds. The Jaguar recovers tremendously in the quarter mile run and falls behind by just a millisecond than the Porsche. The Mercedes Benz slows down over the quarter mile and takes 11.5 seconds to cover it.

Ride and Handling

The credit for the fabulous handling of the SVR Coupe goes to its high-performance chassis that includes a firmer rear-suspension wheel hub and revised valving in the adaptive dampers. As a result, it turns quickly even at high cruising speeds and the electronically controlled rear differential enhances its stability on the road. The ultra-quick steering feels rather light and a steady hand leads to better smoothness.

Braking

What makes the SVR even better than some sports car? It’s the braking that won’t let the F-Type down. The 15-inch front and rear carbon ceramic disk brakes of the SVR Coupe works perfectly fine to halt this 3700+ pound beast from 60 MPH in just 97 feet.

Braking is where the Jaguar excels over all its rivals with Porsche 911 and Mercedes GT S taking 100 feet to stop from 60 MPH. Even after being the heaviest, Jag’s brake response is just phenomenal.

2017 Jaguar F TYPE SVR Fuel Economy

7.8/10

High performance sports cars tend to take a toll on the fuel economy and it’s no different in the case of Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe as well. It travels 15 miles in the city and 23 miles on the highway in a single gallon of fuel. Its low fuel efficiency is understandable given the amount of output it generates.

Model Jaguar F Type SVR Mercedes Benz AMG GT S Porsche 911 Turbo
MPG (city) 15 16 19
MPG (highway) 23 22 24
MPG (combined) 18 18 21

911 Turbo is the most economical sports car here with a mileage of 19/24/21 in city/highway/combined. SVR and GT S have almost similar fuel efficiency and easily lose to Porsche.

2017 Jaguar F TYPE SVR Interior

8.5/10

The driver-focused, 2-person cockpit of the 2017 Jaguar F-Type separates the passenger and driver with a wide "console, and provides a left-hand grip for the passenger. It isn't the most spacious place, but even the coupe offers good headroom for taller drivers and adequate legroom, too- KBB

Seating and comfort

The interiors of the Jaguar Coupe is as classy as it can get. The driver seat feels like a cockpit and gives the sense of authority inside the car. There is enough headroom for the tall occupants but they may have to compromise with the lack of legroom.

2017 Jaguar F TYPE SVR Exterior

8.5/10

Rather than aping the 50-year-old lines of the E-Type, Jaguar's designers crafted a new, modern shape that's still unique to the brand. The coupe's sloping roof and narrow rear glass give it a wider look from behind, even though it has the same dimensions as the convertible- KBB

Dimensions and Weight

The Jaguar F-Type has a fairly balanced sports car with decent dimensions. The carbon fiber coupe roof and other exterior trims maintain its dashing persona that matches its performance immaculately.

2017 Jaguar F TYPE SVR Competition

Jaguar F-Type SVR vs Mercedes Benz AMG GT S

Standing its ground firmly in the race of sports cars, the Mercedes Benz AMG GT S gives the buyers enough reason to stick to it. The powerful 4-liter twin turbo V8 teamed with its 7speed dual clutch automatic transmission lets you enjoy the speed and reach mind-blowing velocities in silence. The brakes are trustworthy and so is the perfectly weighted steering. In comparison with the Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe, the engine output of the Benz is considerable lower although it really tells them apart in terms of acceleration. The stopping power of the brakes lack could be a little better as its equal fuel economy.

Jaguar F-Type SVR vs Porsche 911 Turbo

The legendary sports cars for years and even not failing to impress, the Porsche 911 Turbo is a blind choice for fast car lovers. The monstrous engine and fast shifting 7speed dual-clutch automatic transmission are what's behind the lightning speed characteristics of the Porsche. The styling has been unparalleled, both exterior and interior alike, that contribute towards an absolute driving pleasure. Up against the Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe, the Porsche has a slightly lower engine output but immensely powerful acceleration. The braking needs to improve like the fuel economy.

2017 Jaguar F TYPE SVR Final Verdict

The 2017 Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe impresses at many levels and maintains the trademark reputation as the automaker. Be it speed, style or comfort – it ticks the boxes up to a great extent.

Improving the rear visibility should be something they should focus on. In addition, the technology seems a little less intuitive.

Other than that, the SVR Coupe is our favorite. It is the cheapest when compared to its rivals in the market. Moreover, when you are getting so much power, luxury, and better results in comparison to the rivals, why wouldn’t it be a first choice? Therefore, if you are looking for a luxury sports car, the Jaguar F-Type SVR Coupe is the answer!
