Tesla has been the name synonymous to Electric Vehicles all around the world and manufacturers want to end the monopoly of Tesla.

Jaguar has hence rolled out its first-ever full-electric battery-powered car in the US market and has named it, the I-Pace. 2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Engine and Performance

Jaguar’s I-Pace is unlike any vehicle you’ve ever driven-KBB.com

Engine and Transmission

The 2020 Jaguar I-Pace gets its power from 2 Permanent Magnet Synchronous Electric Motors where 1 motor is used for driving 1 axle each. The combined power output from both the motors is rated at 394hp and 513ft.-lbs. of Torque. The Jag comes in with an AWD setup with a surface response system that effortlessly channels the power to different wheels as per the terrain and demand.

The Center Mounted 90KWh batteries and the Electric motors have been placed tactfully, to give the Jaguar I-Pace an ideal 50-50 weight distribution. A Single Speed Transmission does duty in the Jag while a Torque vectoring system manages the Power distribution in all the wheels.

Talking of the competition, Tesla doesn’t reveal the power figures of its vehicles as it focuses on 0-60 figures. The Audi e-tron however, delivers a slightly lesser output when compared to the Jaguar in terms of both Power and Torque.

The Acceleration from the 2020 Jaguar I-Pace is unlike any Jaguar that you would have ever driven. The 50-50 weight distribution coupled with the generous dollops of Aluminum in the chassis and an AWD system gives the I-Pace, pace of a Shooting star. The I-Pace does the 60MPH dash from standstill in just 4.5 seconds hence making it, one of the fastest SUV’s in the world.

Speaking of the competition, the Tesla Model X does the 60MPH stint in just 4.7 seconds while the other newbie on the block-Audi e-tron, manages to achieve the same feat in 5.5 seconds.

Ride and Handling

The Jaguar I-Pace is snappy off the line, silent in operation and uses clever tech like regen braking to not only stop the vehicle but also aid in handling. While cornering, the perfect weight distribution and the corner set wheels offer superb control at speeds and minimal body roll. The Adjustable air suspension and the surface management system allows for a comfortable ride over hard and bumpy surfaces. Steering is precise and quickens up on its responsiveness when toggled in the sport mode. On a whole though, the I-Pace has its focus on the sporty side of things rather than comfort.

Jaguar has employed the use of a lot of high tech technologies like Regenerative Braking and generous use of aluminum in the chassis in the 2020 I-Pace. This lightness and the extra braking tech, aids the braking performance of the Jag while saving fuel as well. The 2 levels of regenerative braking allows drivers to stop the I-Pace without actually pressing the Brake Pedal or help is save battery by improving efficiency. The Seating position is high and the driver gets a commanding view of the road in front.

While we don’t have the exact figures of braking distance for the competition, we do feel that the jaguar I-Pace will be the segment benchmark for SUV’s because of its extremely lightweight body, perfect weight distribution and a clever regen braking system.

Towing Capacity

The Jaguar I-Pace shares some of its lineage from its siblings, more precisely the Range Rovers and that is reflected in the towing capacity figures of the 2020 I-Pace. The 2020 Jaguar I-Pace ranks as a segment benchmark in terms of the Towing capacity as it has the ability to tow nearly 5300lbs.

Speaking of the competition, it’s the Tesla Model X again that closely follows the Jaguar in terms of the towing capacity while the Audi e-tron can haul the lowest weight.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Fuel Economy

Electric Cars over the past decades have evolved by leaps and bounds and one of the most significant areas, where they have seen improvement is in terms of the range. The 2020 Jaguar I-pace is a prime example of this fact as it delivers a massive 298 miles of range on a full charge. Jaguar say that this has been made possible because of the copious use of aluminum in the chassis and the clever weight distribution of the SUV.

As per Jaguar themselves, it takes about 12.9 hours to recharge the battery to 100 percent on a 230-volt AC Level 2 charger at home, and about 10 hours to 80 percent charge. A 50-kWh DC high-speed system takes about 85 minutes for a full charge or 40 minutes to an 80-percent level. The lithium-ion battery pack comes with an 8-year/100,000-mile warranty, and Jaguar will replace it for when the efficiency goes down below 70 percent during that span.

Talking about the competition, the Tesla Model X is once again the closest to the Jaguar in terms of range (295 miles), while the Audi e-tron is again the last of the lot.

2020 Jaguar I-PACE electric Interior

Interior space is plentiful, especially with regard to headroom-Edmunds.com

Layout, Seating and Comfort

Minimalist may be one of the first few words that you will utter out of your mouth, once you step in the cabin of the I-Pace. The Jaguar I-Pace uses a layout that can be seen in other modern Jags’s. It’s spacious and has plenty of room for 5 people. The Big Panoramic Sunroof adds to the overall sense of space and makes matters more airy and light.

Seat Comfort ranks as one the best in the segment despite the use of relatively sporty seats. The seats are heated all throughout while the front seats are cooled as well. Adding to the conveniences are the power adjust seats that have a memory setting for the driver’s seat. Overall material quality usage is top notch and gives the cabin, an upmarket feel unlike some of its rivals.

Third (Head/Shoulder/Leg)(In.)

In terms of the dimensions, the Jaguar offers generous amounts of legroom for the front passengers while the shoulder room won’t leave much people unhappy. One of the concerns may come in the form of the Headroom as Tall passengers over 6 feet may have their heads touching the sunroof more often than they would have liked. The Rear Seats also come with LATCH compatibility and set of lower anchors on both rear outboard seats.

Cargo Capacity

The 2020 Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t exude the biggest cargo in its class but for what it offers, it certainly not impractical. With the rear seats folded up, you get a decent 25.3 cubic feet of storage space while with those down, the space improves to a massive 51 cubic feet.

Cubby Holes are in plenty inside the Cabin of the I-Pace while the Doors house big Cup holders that can easily accommodate 1L water bottles. There is a provision of storing electronic gadgets like laptops and other under the rear seats while the smartphones can be kept behind the shift buttons.

Design wise, the I-Pace looks a bit less SUV like when compared to its other stable mates and looks more like an elongated Sedan with some wagon elements. The body has a sweeping design that has character lines rising and falling all around the I-Pace. The Front Grill and Front Haunches are loaded with dramatic curves and makes the Jag look bold.
