The 2015 Jaguar XF comes in at an MSRP of $46,975, and offers a great deal of comfort and convenience features, right from the base trim. While the 2015 model year has been around since the 2009-generation, Jaguar has done little to keep the executive sedan updated. There still are, however, plenty of things to keep the XF relevant, such as a wide range of engine options.

The 2015 Jaguar XF faces stiff competition from rivals such as the 2015 Audi A6, and the 2015 BMW 535i. Offered in four trims and three engine configurations, fancier XFs tend to tick more boxes than the base trim. In this review of the 2015 Jaguar XF, we walk you through the good, the bad, and the hopeless, and help you decide whether the slightly outdated Jaguar XF is worth your money or not.

We Recommend

If you’re planning on getting a 2015 model year Jaguar XF, we recommend getting the Portofolio trim. While the Portfolio costs about $3,000 over the base Premium trim, it gets you a good deal of features that otherwise aren’t offered with the base trim. We feel that this trim gets the most out of the Jaguar XF experience, and you wouldn’t necessarily need the AWD variant.

2015 Jaguar XF Engine and Performance

7.0/10

The 2015 Jaguar XF is offered with a potent 2.0L Inline-4 engine, which is capable of producing 240 horsepower and a steady 251 lb-ft of torque. While the base trim gets the 2.0L engine, the Portfolio and Sport trims get the 3.0L V6, which makes a lot more power. The base engine comes mated to 8-speed automatic transmission, which feels quick and well optimized.

The Inline-4 engine is powerful enough to pull comfortably on highways, and offer seamless city driving. While we certainly do recommend going for the V6, we must mention that we have no complaints with the base engine. There’s a good amount of low-end pull, with higher revs churning out loads of grunt. RWD makes driving plentifully enjoyable, while upgrading to AWD helps you achieve a state of dignified, contained driving.

Among the competition, the 2015 BMW 535i offers the most power, albeit by a small margin over the Jaguar XF. The BMW and the Audi A6 offer the most torque, again, by a small amount over that offered by the Jaguar XF. The Audi A6 is the quickest in terms of 0 to 60 launch and quarter mile times. On the other hand, the 2015 BMW 535i offers the highest top speed.

2015 Jaguar XF Fuel Economy

6.0/10

2015 Jaguar XF offers slightly underwhelming fuel efficiency. While the German rivals of the XF offer appreciable fuel economy standards, the XF just doesn’t manage to keep up. The 2015 model year Jaguar XF returns 19 MPG in the city, 30 MPG in the highway, for a combined rating of 23 MPG. The Jaguar also comes fitted with an 18.4-gallon fuel tank, which enables it a range of up to 552 miles on the highway.

Analyzing the competition, the 2016 BMW 535i offers to be one of the best fuel-efficient sedans in this segment. Returning an impressive 23 MPG in the city and 34 MPG on the highways, the 535i tops the charts and clearly claims a win in the gas mileage department. The BMW 535i also comes with a sizable fuel tank, which allows for the best driving range among the competition.

2015 Jaguar XF Interior

6.0/10

The 2015 Jaguar XF features an extremely plain and dated interior. Despite being supremely comfortable and ergonomic, the overall cabin feels extremely outdated and uninviting. Given what is being offered with rivals, the Jaguar XF’s USP- the interior, feels rather invalidated. There are, however, several interior features which still manage to keep the XF in contention with its rivals.

There’s a generous use of leather, even on the base trim. You also get plenty of genuine polished wood around the dash and on the center console, which certainly adds premiumness to the XF’s interior. However, the seats feel dated and improperly sculpted. While they seem fairly comfortable for short commutes, they can get uncomfortable by modern standards in case of longer trips.

Comparing the competition, the 2016 BMW 535i offers the most headroom, shoulder space, as well as legroom in the front row. At the back, the BMW offers the most headroom, but the Jaguar XF has the most shoulder space to offer. The Audi A6 comes with the most legroom, making itself ideally suited to be a chauffeur’s car. The Jaguar XF, however, does come with a great amount of cargo space, significantly boosting its practicality. Some key interior features offered with the 2015 Jaguar FX include:

  • Dual-Zone Climate Control.
  • Leather Seating Surfaces.
  • Power-Adjustable Seats.
  • Leather Upholstery.
  • Polished Wood Trim Inserts.
  • Hybrid Gauge Cluster.

2015 Jaguar XF Infotainment System

The 2015 Jaguar XF gets a fairly basic infotainment unit, offering fundamental features to keep you entertained during your trips. The 2015 model year Jaguar XF gets an 8.0-inch infotainment unit, consisting of basic features and settings. There’s Bluetooth Audio Streaming on offer, which lets you stream your favorite playlists on the go. You also get USB and Aux support, along with a CD player. Sound is channeled through a compelling 11-Speaker sound system, which certainly is the highlight of the Jaguar XF’s infotainment unit.

  • 8.0-inch Infotainment Screen.
  • Bluetooth Audio Streaming.
  • Voice Recognition.
  • USB and Aux Support.
  • CD Player.
  • 11-Speaker Sound System.
  • In-Built Navigation System.

2015 Jaguar XF Exterior

9.0/10

The 2015 Jaguar XF employs a clean and communicative exterior design. To a very good extent, we feel that the XF makes up for the lack of aesthetic stimulation in the interior with striking, tasteful, and elegant exterior design. The proportions are absolutely stunning, and the sedan already stands with a timeless appeal. We also love the optional Jaguar emblem you can have installed at the tip of the hood, which comes finished in premium chrome.

The side profile offers subtle hints of sporty roots, and the gradually sloping roofline adds a touch of exoticicsm to the sedan’s design. The large 19-inch wheels go really well with the overall aesthetic of the sedan, and complement its dignified persona well. Additionally, the strips of chrome at the front bumper add a tasteful mix of materials to the front fascia. Overall, the 2015 Jaguar XF’s design gets a big thumbs up.

2015 Jaguar XF Safety

6.0/10

The 2015 Jaguar XF stands as a capable, elegant and extremely safe executive sedan. While the 2015 model year XF is based on Jaguar’s slightly older architecture, it’s chassis stands rigid and boasts high bending strength. The 2015 Jaguar XF has not been rated by the NHTSA or the IIHS, but the sedan flaunts some compelling features which help boost it’s safety credibility. Armed with plenty of passive and active safety features, the 2015 Jaguar XF stands as a competent vehicle in terms of occupant protection merit. Some key safety features offered with the 2015 Jaguar XF include:

  • Traction Control.
  • ESP and 4-wheel ABS.
  • Blind-Spot Monitoring.
  • Front and Rear Park Assist.
  • Dual-Stage Airbags.
  • LATCH Anchors.
  • Post-Collision System.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

2015 Jaguar XF Final Verdict

The 2015 Jaguar XF feels like a slightly compromised choice, given what the competition has on offer. While the Jaguar comes with a fairly potent base engine, it misses out on major points in terms of fuel economy and powertrain reliability. The interior feels extremely dated and bland, albeit featuring a good amount of comfort, passenger space, and cargo capacity. The exterior design is stunning, and we are certain it will age well. Despite its oddities, reliability issues and overpriced value proposition, Jaguar XF models certainly hold decent resale value. We surely can recommend going for the 2015 Jaguar XF if you don’t mind overlooking some of its key flaws.
