The jaguar xf sport brake rivals with dependable Mercedes -Benz E 400, Audi A4 Allroad and the stylish Volvo V90. For the first time in a while, well-to-do American wagon shoppers are spoiled for choice, and that's worth relishing.

We Recommend

The Supercharged V6 powertrain in XF Sportbrake will be an overkill for most of the people and it is only available in the higher trim. Most of the buyer will be happy with the turbocharged inline four producing 390 hp. The prestige variant hits the sweet spot with an impressive list of amenities.

2019 Jaguar XF Wagon Engine and Performance

"Compared to your typical luxury sedan, the XF has more charisma and pomp. Its shift selector rises from the center console when you fire up the engine, and its interior materials and colors are all generally warm and inviting. Styling and build quality are all top-notch and punch above the XF's price bracket. And in terms of size, it's on par in interior volume, but it edges out others when it comes to trunk volume”- Edmunds

Engine and Transmission

The powertrain menu for the 2019 Jaguar XF includes two engine options. A standard 2.0 liter supercharged four cylinder generated 300 hp @ 5,500 rpm and 295 lb-ft of torque @ 5000rpm. The bigger 3.0 liter supercharged V6 puts out 380 hp @ 6,500 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque @ 4,500 rpm. Both of the engines are mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission sourced from ZF. You can also manually control the gearshifts via steering mounted paddle shifters.

All-wheel drive is standard. The supercharged V6 has plenty of grunt, even if you're applying little pedal pressure on the highway. The standard engine also pulls away from standstill smoothly.

The Mercedes-Benz E400 produces the highest amount of horses because of its higher displacement engine followed by the XF Sportbrake. The Volvo V90 and Audi A4 all road produces a similar amount of horsepower.

Acceleration

The XF Sportbrake takes the best power plant from the sedan lineup so you won’t miss the performance aspect. All it takes is 5.3 to scout 60 mph from standstill for the supercharged V6 engine. The standard engines take 5.7 seconds to reach 60 miles an hour topping out at 121 mph.

The Benz again takes the cup here and proves faster than every other rival. The XF Sportbrakes tails the Benz and half of a second slower. The Volvo V90 and Audi A4 Allroad return similar numbers in 0 to 60 marks.

Ride and Handling

The driving dynamics of the XF wagon are exactly similar to the XF sedan. Inspired from the F-type the 3.0-liter supercharged V6 powertrain delivers instantaneous acceleration and high level of torque at all engine speeds. Crafted from high-grade aluminum, the advanced architecture delivers superb torsional rigidity and comes with the double wishbone in the front and integral link in the rear. Road noise is well muffled like in other Jaguar’s and ride quality is up to the mark.

The AWD system with Intelligent Driveline Dynamics (IDD) continuously reads the road and prevents losing traction in all weather conditions. Jag’s adaptive dynamics constantly adjust the electronically controlled dampers to optimize the suspension setting. The electric power-assisted steering wheel is quick and gives you outstanding feedback with exhilarating performance. You can toggle between different modes like Dynamic, Normal, Snow and Eco to alter throttle response, gearshifts and steering input according to preference. A self-leveling air suspension in the rear inflates air springs to counteract the weight of heavy loads to ensure ride height and handling.

Braking

The Jaguar XF Sportbrake comes equipped with 13.8 inches ventilated disc in the front 12.8 inches in the rear. The pedal is smooth with a short journey. It is easy to modulate in traffic and also on highway passes.

2019 Jaguar XF Wagon Fuel Economy

The Volvo V90 and Audi A4 Allroad have better fuel economies because of lower output powertrains. These are followed by the Jag and the Benz takes the last spot.

2019 Jaguar XF Wagon Interior

7.5/10

"The Jaguar XF sedan and Sportbrake are useful mid-sizers, we’d just wish the interior would cheer up. It’s easy to confuse the 2019 Jaguar XF with the automaker’s smaller sedan, the XE, but our legs know the difference" - Carconnection

Seating and Comfort

Every element in the Jaguar XF Sportbrake has been meticulously designed and executed from top-class material. This can seat five people in relative comfort and the wagon body style makes it much more versatile. The flatter roofline makes headroom apt for taller individuals and legroom was never an issue with the XF. Getting in and out of the car is an effortless task. Seats are firm and provide ample support for a variety of passengers. A fixed panoramic roof which is made from a single piece of glass give a sense of endless space.

The 2019 Jaguar XF mid-size luxury sedan is even better as a wagon; a well-earned break from the crossover craze. The 2019 XF’s exterior is a sight for sore eyes- Carconnection

Dimension and Weight

The Jaguar XF sedan looks attractive from every angle and so is the wagon kin. Its drop-dead gorgeous design will definitely attract wagon –loving enthusiast. The XF Sportbrake combines superlative quality and craftsmanship in timeless British design. Every cuts and crease is made for maximum aerodynamic efficiency while complementing the stunning proportions.

The upright grill fits perfectly between the adaptive LED headlights featuring Jaguar ‘J’ blade daytime running lights. A Jaguar embossed mesh side vent on the front wheel arc complements the dynamic design. An elegant arc runs through the length of the body and ends at wrap-around taillights which are inspired from the F type.

2019 Jaguar XF Wagon Competition

Volvo V90

The Volvo V90 packs a 2.0 liter supercharged engine which puts out 250 hp which is less than the Sportbrake. The Sportbrake also scouts to 60 mph way faster than the V90. In terms of cargo space, both are similar but the V90 arguably have the best interior. The combined fuel economy of the V90 is also better and overall it is a good alternative to the British mark.

Audi A4 All road

The Audi A4 Allroad is cheaper than the XF Sportbrake and also spacious. The 2.0 liter engine of A4 Allroad is also less powerful than the Sportbrake. The combined mileage of the Audi A4 Allroad is way better than the Sportbrake however the jag comes with large cargo capacity. The overall performance of the Jag is better but the Audi is also a good alternative.

Mercedes-Benz E400 4matic

The Mercedes-Benz E – 400 comes 3.0 L biturbo V6 which puts out 329 hp and a similar amount of torque. The E class is arguably the most luxurious car among the lot and the cabin is crafted from upscale material. The E class may not be fuel efficient as the Jag but there are plenty of tech features to fiddle with. The Benz cost a bit more but it worth the extra money.

2019 Jaguar XF Wagon Final Verdict

The Jaguar XF Sportbrake is a solid choice with a lively powertrain and a comfortable cabin. Jaguar brings aluminum-intensive architecture and utilitarian design for wagon lovers they have been craving. It looks attractive like the XF sedan and very few wagons can manage to do that. The XF sportbrake might not win from the refined E-class wagon but it certainly wins out in design and will satisfy most of the people with comfort.
