Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2014 Jeep Cherokee has been redesigned from the ground up. With a modern Jeep design and a luxurious interior, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee is sure to impress. With the choice of two capable powertrain options that include Jeep's all-new 2.4l Tigershark I4 engine and the 3.2l Pentastar V6 engine you never have to make a compromise when it comes to utility, capability, or style. It faces stiff competition from Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Toyota RAV4.

Features
7.5/10

There are four trims available for the 2014 Jeep Cherokee: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. A 5-inch touchscreen is standard on the Cherokee Sport, as is a USB port, Bluetooth, keyless entry, and air conditioning. V6 engines are available for the Cherokee Latitude. A number of features are available on Cherokee Limited. These include an 8.4-inch touchscreen, a rearview camera, dual-zone climate control, leather upholstery, heated front seats, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Cherokee Trailhawk features skid plates, a higher ride height, locking rear differential, as well as high and low-range gearing.

We Recommend

Our recommendation would be to get the Limited trim as it comes with all the safety and luxury features you need to be loaded with an excellent engine. Trailhawk trim is ideal for campers and off-roaders who like to travel in style.

Engine and Performance
6.9/10

Jeep Cherokee's 2014 engine options include a V6 and an inline-4. Powered by a 2.4L four-cylinder engine that puts out 184 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque, the base model is equipped with front-wheel drive as standard and a four-wheel drivetrain as an option. However, the acceleration performance is not that impressive. The 3.2-liter V6 engine makes an impressive 271 horsepower.

In terms of performance, the 9.5 seconds to reach 60 mph and the 17.2 seconds to cover the quarter-mile are quite impressive. It rides smoothly on the road and offers excellent off-road traction. A variety of gear ratios are provided by models equipped with Active Drive II (including the Trailhawk). The towing capacity of Cherokee V6 models is 4,500 pounds when properly equipped.

The Jeep Cherokee runs slowly, and thus comes in the last place on acceleration charts. Honda's CR-V and Toyota's RAV4 perform better than Jeep and Ford, with the Toyota RAV4 reaching 60mph the fastest from a standstill. The Ford Escape and Jeep Cherokee are capable of achieving speeds exceeding 130 mph despite RAV4's better acceleration.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The Jeep Cherokee can be configured with a variety of engines and drivetrains, which leads to different EPA ratings. Its four-cylinder engine and front-wheel drive enable it to achieve a combined fuel economy of 25 mpg, 22 mpg in the city, and 31 mpg on the highway. Its V6 engine and front-wheel drive combine to offer 22 mpg combined, 19 mpg city, and 28 mpg highway.

In comparison, both the Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 display impressive numbers. In comparison with the Jeep and Ford crossovers, these Japanese vehicles drive more efficiently. While the Jeep Cherokee comes with a large fuel tank capacity of 15.8 gallons, the RAV4 is the largest with a 15.9 gallons tank.

Interior
8.1/10

The 2014 Cherokee is a major milestone for Jeep and comes packed with upscale features such as an 8.4-inch touchscreen interface, available polished aluminum accents, and a rearview camera. Jeep's legendary all-weather capability is now even more modern with the addition of connected-car technologies such as UConnect voice command with Bluetooth and the industry's first in-vehicle UConnect access.

With a redesigned exterior that exudes strength and confidence, the 2014 Jeep Cherokee arrives with more high-quality interior features and comfort amenities than ever before. With improvements in design and efficiency, it's roomier, safer, and more capable than ever. It has 24.6 cubic feet of cargo space, which can be expanded to 54.9 cubic feet when the back seats are folded flat.

The Honda CR-V offers significantly more interior space than its competition. Although the Honda's interior doesn't stand out from the Ford and Jeep for premium quality, it stands out for its generous interior space. With regard to cargo space, the RAV4 has the most, while the Cherokee has the least. Major interior features include-

  • Adjustable steering wheel column
  • Leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Ambient interior lighting
  • Steering Wheel Controls
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Available Heated steering wheel

7.0/10

The Jeep Cherokee is the best in class and it has been updated for the 2014 model year. In comparison, the Cherokee stands out as a taller, more aggressive-looking crossover that can appeal to a variety of customers, from families to off-roaders. As the heaviest of the lot with a curb weight of 3,590 lbs, it also happens to be the widest and longest, making it rather intimidating to look at as compared to the Honda CR-V, Ford Escape, and Toyota RAV4. Few major exterior features include-

  • 17-inch aluminum wheels
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Fog Lamps (optional)
  • Auto-Off Headlights
  • Reverse camera
  • Rear Spoiler
Safety
8.6/10

Crash tests of the Jeep Cherokee were good. For four out of the five areas tested, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) gave the Cherokee a score of Good, which is the top rating possible. The base model is devoid of active safety features, while the Limited and Trailhawk models are equipped with a variety of active safety features. A few of these are reverse parking sensors, parallel parking assist, adaptive cruise control, and forward-collision warning. Additional safety features include:

  • Blind-spot monitoring
  • Rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Brake Assist
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Daytime Running Lights
  • Child Safety Locks
  • Traction Control
  • Fully Equipped Airbags
