Making a grand debut in 2019, the Jeep Gladiator hit the market with complete dedication. The Gladiator is a powerful machine that sits somewhere between the Jeep Wrangler and other pickup trucks in the segment. The 2022 Jeep Gladiator Crew Cab is a new model of its kind, and we are expecting the least changes compared to the 2021 model. It has proved itself as a rugged and capable off-roader in the market. The Gladiator offers an array of personalization options along with a torquey diesel powertrain accompanied by creature comforts like heated seats and adaptive cruise control.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator will inherit the brand’s reputation of rugged and skilled off-roading. From iconic 7-slot grille design to removable body panels, from round headlights to massive fender flares, the Jeep Gladiator is nearly identical to aggressive Wrangler and it too can reach out to beaten tracks for ascertaining adventures. With pricing in-between the range of $32,060 to $45,250, the 2022 Gladiator will compete against Ford Ranger Crew Cab, Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab, and Toyota Tacoma Double cab.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Features

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator will be available in four variants- the Sport, Sport S, Rubicon, and the Mojave. The entry-level Sport trim is expected to come at a sticker price of $32,060, and the range-topping Mojave trim is expected to be priced around $45,250. We are expecting some more customization options with the trims of the 2022 Jeep Gladiator. All the variants come with a 5-foot cargo bed and all-wheel drive as standard.

The 3.6-liter engine comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission, while an eight-speed automatic is optional. The diesel engine comes exclusively with an eight-speed automatic. The top-model Mojave is not available with the diesel engine.

We would happily recommend the Rubicon trim as it seems to be a desirable upgrade from the base Sport model. It features a larger infotainment system, air filtration, hood insulation, and leather-trimmed bucket seats.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Price

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is expected to be priced close to the current model’s price range; which is from $35,060 to $53,260 with the destination.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Release Date

The automaker has yet to announce any official release date for the 2022 Jeep Gladiator, but one can expect its arrival in fall 2021.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Engine and Performance

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator will continue to sport a 3.6L Pentastar V6 as standard, and the block punches out 285-hp and 260 lb-ft of torque to the rear-wheel drive. The all-wheel-drive comes as an upgradable option, which makes the Gladiator pickup more potent on uneven or slippery surfaces. The V6 is paired with a 6-speed manual and an optional 8-speed automatic transmission can ease the drive.

One can always upgrade the Gladiator with an optional turbo diesel block that cranks out 260-hp and 442 lb-ft of torque and the transmission options remain the same. The Ecodiesel engine adds more punch and grunt and lauded towing capacity. The Gladiator boasts the most impressive power in the class. In addition, it can also equip important all-terrain alms like optional Trac-Lock Anti-Spin rear differential and two options for transfer cases with the Command-Trac Part-Time 4WD System offered as standard.

*2021 MY data used for reference

The Gladiator and its standard engine punch out best-in-class power, while the most impressive block is the Ford Ranger’s 2.3L Turbo Inline-4. The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is a tough competitor to all the rivals, with the Honda Ridgeline being the nearest rival in terms of power.

The Ranger is the quickest in the lot, as it can perform a 6.1-second 0-60 MPH sprint, while the hefty Gladiator does the same feat in 7.9-seconds. Thus the Jeep pickup isn’t a sprinter, but it can handle rough terrains pretty easily.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Fuel Economy

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator won’t showcase any new engine addition or modification, which means the economic figures of the previous model year can be taken as reference. The upcoming refresh would deliver 17 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highways. This Jeep pickup will also accompany a 22-gallon fuel tank that delivers practical mileage to haul loads through inter-state travels. In the city, the Gladiator can go up to 374 miles, and up to 484 miles on the highways.

If the economy is the priority while buying a new pick-up, then the Ford Ranger will deliver an imposing economy along with balanced power and performance. The other rivals are not far, yet the Jeep Gladiator comes in the last spot in terms of economy.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Interior

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is unexpected to have any significant changes to the rugged interior styling. The Gladiator will carry over the same subtle styling along with great functionality and convenience. The interiors will feature blissful materials and soft surfaces with impeccable creature comforts to match leading rivals. The cabin is spacious and roomy, and one can easily remove the door and roof panels to have an amusing open-air cabin experience. The dashboard will feature round air vents and a clean design.

The infotainment system will remain unchanged, which means it will feature a 5-inch screen as standard, which can be upgraded to a 7.0 or 8.4-inch screen. The infotainment will feature the UConnect interface which is quite intuitive and quickly responsive. It will be followed by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone connectivity, SiriusXM Satellite Radio, and more.

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator will remain the most spacious and roomy cabin in the rivalry. The rivals like the Toyota Tacoma Double Cab and the Ford Ranger Crew Cab offer 4-passenger accommodation. Coming to the Ridgeline, it is tremendously spacious that three passengers can fit in the rear with ease. The interior highlights will expectedly include the following:

  • Alpine Premium Sound System
  • Dual-Zone Automatic Climate Control
  • Heated Front Seats
  • Uconnect 4C NAV with 8.4-Inch Display
  • SiriusXM Satellite Radio, Traffic Link & Traffic Plus
  • Wireless charging
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity
  • Forward Facing Front-Trail Camera

2022 Jeep Gladiator Exterior

The Jeep Gladiator was introduced as a fresh design that instantly grabbed the spotlight. The 2022 Jeep Gladiator will retain the same rough and rugged styling which is majorly inspired by the Wrangler sibling. The front will feature the same round headlights and the iconic 7-slot grille, muscular front fenders, and burly front bumper. The side stance will reflect the Wrangler stance with an extra cargo bed stuck to the rear.

Like the Wrangler, the 2022 Jeep Gladiator will also let the buyers remove the door and roof panels. The rear end will have the “Jeep” brand emblem with big rear bumpers with integrated footstep. We are expecting Jeep to introduce more options of personalization with the Gladiator.

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator will retain its robust and aggressive styling and the buyers that’d be looking for the Wrangler resemblance will be able to enjoy the added versatility of hauling loads. As the table shows, the Gladiator offers the best ground clearance and lengthy wheelbase, but it’s also the heftiest in the lot. Some of the key exterior features of the 2022 Jeep Gladiator are:

  • Convertible Hardtop & Softtop
  • 33-inch Falken Tires
  • High Strength Steel Frame
  • DANA 44 Solid Axles
  • Front Sway Bar Disconnect System
  • Power Retractable Running Boards
  • Heated Side Mirrors
  • Removable Doors

2022 Jeep Gladiator Safety

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator hasn’t been announced with any addition to the safety feature, and it will remain unchanged as the previous model year. It will also carry over the same platform and chassis that was awarded a splendid 4-star rating by the NHTSA with the 2021 model year. The safety and driver assistance feature list highlights would look like:

  • Tire specific low tire pressure warning
  • Automated emergency braking
  • Blind-spot monitoring system
  • Adaptive cruise control with a full stop
  • Forward collision warning with active braking
  • Rear cross-path detection
  • Park-sense rear park assist
  • Parkview rear backup camera
  • Trailer sway control system

2022 Jeep Gladiator Competition

2022 Jeep Gladiator Crew Cab vs 2021 Toyota Tacoma Double Cab

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator offers outstanding power and performance and is reputed for being rugged and impressive on beaten tracks. But the Toyota Tacoma is no different in capabilities and offers but it's still underwhelming in comparison to the Gladiator. The Tacoma packs a better punch which results in it being quicker than the Gladiator (Tacoma being significantly lighter than the Gladiator). The interiors of the Jeep pickup are more spacious and roomy, especially in the rear. The Gladiator is rough and rugged while the Tacoma can be equipped with extensive soft-touch materials for more premium attire.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Crew Cab vs 2021 Honda Ridgeline Crew Cab

The 2022 Honda Ridgeline is competitively priced and offers neck-to-neck rivalry in power aspects. But the buyers will find the Ridgeline more upscale and comfortable, while the Gladiator attracts eyes with its clean yet rugged styling. The Ridgeline has less ground clearance, so it won’t permit tackling steep boulders or rocky tracks as easily as the Gladiator.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Crew Cab vs 2021 Ford Ranger Crew Cab

The Ford Ranger and its puny turbo engine block offer challenging figures, and it’s one of the quickest pickups in the segment. The Ranger is also empowered with the better towing capacity to the Gladiator and offers impeccable fuel economy. But the Ranger fails to be as airy as the Gladiator is, but the shorter wheelbase makes it more maneuverable than the Jeep’s rugged pickup.

2022 Jeep Gladiator Final Verdict

The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is an exclusive choice in the pickup segment, for its unmatched power, generous cabin space, and capability to remove the roof and door panels. No other rival in the segment offers intense off-roading capability, at least in its standard form. But the brawny engine option trades off mileage, but it’s a sacrifice worth the adventurous ride experience and aggressive styling with Wrangler resemblance. It offers a single body and cab configuration, which means a lesser suite of features and options. So one might need to sort out the priorities before going for the 2022 Jeep Gladiator Crew Cab.
