Riding atop the new architecture, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is back for another stint with exceptional performance, awe-inspiring looks, and supreme functionality on offer. Unveiled along with the GC 4xe, a new Trailhawk variant, and an electrified GC variant, the 2022 Grand Cherokee will start from an expected MSRP of $37,390. Invoking more legendary capability, the 2022 GC is able to tow up to 7200 lbs, with the standard V8 engine.

Inspired from the Grand Cherokee L, the full-size SUV gets massive design changes on the inside, with a lot more modern elements like an Amazon Alexa-enabled infotainment setup, digital driver cluster, and more that is to be a part of the interior package. On the outside too, Jeep will be making massive changes so as to make the SUV look both bold and modern and make it follow in line with the newly launched Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer SUVs. With no major changes to the mechanicals, the Grand Cherokee will be offered with three powertrain choices, a V6, a 5.7L V8 and a 2.0L turbocharged unit with electric motors with the Grand Cherokke 4xe PHEV.

With loads of spy shots doing rounds on the internet, we can expect the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee to have an aggressive-looking design that sways away from the last-gen model. The 2022 Grand Cherokee will continue with the signature Jeep grille and boxy design layout but with more creases and flair than before. On the powertrain front, we expect the same 3.6L V6 engine from the 2021 Grand Cherokee as standard, with the powerful 5.7L V8 with a four-wheel drive to be made optional. Both engines will come paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. Jeep has confirmed that the 2022 Grand Cherokee will feature a level-two autonomous driving system as part of the package. The VW Atlas, GMC Acadia, and the Kia Telluride rival the Jeep Grand Cherokee in the market.

What is the Price of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

Available in over five trim levels, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee starts from an MSRP of $37,390, for the base Laredo trim, whereas the top-of-the-line Summit trim is priced at an MSRP of $58,000.

What is the Release Date of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee?

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV will arrive in dealerships near you at the end of 2021, whereas the PHEV 4xe variant will reach dealerships sometime at the start of 2022.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Buying Advice

For those looking for a road-only Jeep, you’d be pleased with the High Altitude or Summit trims, even with the smaller engine, although AWD is a must for traction in poor weather conditions. Those in the market for an off-roader needn’t look past the Trailhawk, while the SRT and Trackhawk variants deserve ample consideration on their own.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Features

8.0/10

While there isn’t much information out on the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee, we can confirm it is set to receive a makeover for sure. There are numerous rumors flying around about the next-gen Jeep Grand Cherokee, the most exciting ones being the possibility of a hybrid powertrain option, and the introduction of a few more SRT trims.

While we cannot confirm our speculation, we are sure that Jeep will retain many of its trims from the previous model year. It should also retain the standard RWD for its V6 and V8 powered trims alike, with AWD available for around $2,000 to $4,000 more, except for the off-road-focused Trailhawk, which is only available with a 4x4 drivetrain.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Engine and Performance

9.0/10

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is expected to remain unchanged under the hood, but Jeep has also hinted at the introduction of a new plug-in hybrid powertrain to the potent engine options. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will be fitted with a 3.6L Pentastar V6 as standard that makes 290 horsepower and 257 pound-feet of torque. The more powerful engine option includes a 5.7L HEMI V8 that cranks out 357-hp and 390 pound-feet of torque.

The engine flows the power to the unconventional rear-wheel drive, while all-wheel drive comes as an upgradable option. Not to forget, the Jeep Grand Cherokee will offer distinctive trims; the Trailhawk trim should please buyers looking for intense off-roading capabilities, though it has not received a special mention of its arrival. For extreme performance yield, one would definitely fly towards the ridiculously powerful SRT and Trackhawk models.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will equip several standard off-road features such as the legendary Quadra-Drive II 4×4 system with a rear electronic limited-slip differential (eLSD), a unique version of the Quadra-Lift air suspension specifically developed for the Trailhawk which offers improved articulation and total suspension travel, as well as a select-speed control with hill descent control. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will retain its versatile character that navigates the 2-row SUV on trails and still has outstanding on-road manners.

Unlike the Kia Telluride, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee dominates its rivals with top-notch performance and much-lauded off-roading ability. The 2022 Grand Cherokee will remain to be a brisk SUV, again better than its rivals. In terms of riding and handling, the Kia Telluride has the best on-road manners, but the Volkswagen Atlas isn’t far from the same. But the GMC Acadia feels underwhelming with the least attractive power figures.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Fuel Economy

7.0/10

Don’t expect an SUV to fit a brawny V6, be highly capable on rough terrain, and also be economical at the same time. But the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee won’t cut a hole in your pockets. The standard V6 supports the buyer with quite a generous fuel economy. With no changes to the powertrain, the 2022 Grand Cherokee can be expected to deliver 19/26/21 mpg in city/highway/combined driving conditions. The same 24.6-gallon fuel tank will allow the Grand Cherokee to stretch 517 combined miles on average.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee won’t be the efficient SUV pick, especially against rivals like Kia Telluride, GMC Acadia, and Volkswagen Atlas. But note, that the margin isn’t huge and is a worthy trade-off for capabilities that the Grand Cherokee will be sated with.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Interior

8.0/10

The Grand Cherokee has since become synonymous with off-roading and, when properly equipped, luxury - CarBuzz

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will walk in the same footsteps as the recently introduced Grand Cherokee L three-row SUV, which is undoubtedly the first of the luxurious new generation. The upcoming 2-row is said to set its eyes in the luxurious territories too, so expect an opulent cabin with large screens.

Not much of the details have been a dig, but excellent materials, eye-sparkling styling cues, big infotainment screen. The FCA's new Uconnect 5 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capability might be the highlight of the interior.

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will remain spacious and comfy inside the cabin, but one would find the Volkswagen Atlas more roomy and refined. Similar is the case with the Kia Telluride and GMC Acadia in its range-topping Denali trim. But, we’d wait until the brand unveils the interiors completely.

Standout interior features of the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee

  • Available heated and ventilated front seats
  • Heated front seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Leather-wrapped and heated steering wheel
  • Driver seat memory function
  • Driver and Passenger power lumbar support
  • Uconnect infotainment software
  • Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Exterior

6.0/10

Overall, the redesigned 2022 Grand Cherokee is a welcome improvement over its long-lived predecessor - Edmunds

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will receive a complete makeover but will inherit some exemplary details from the all-new Wagoneer and Grand Cherokee L. It will have the same heritage 7-slated grille, but it will be slightly slanted forward. It will have more appealing, slimmer LED DRLs and sleeker headlights.

The exterior details can vary by trim. The camo test mule has been spotted several times and by the looks of it, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will retain the bold, square wheel arches, intense body lines, and confident stance.

The 2-row SUV is highly anticipated as the all-new Jeep Grand Cherokee L was introduced and it received a warm response. But it’ll still be distinctive with a different exterior shape and lack of black inserts between the chrome trim, as on the bigger 3-row Grand Cherokee.

  • Panoramic Sunroof
  • Power Liftgate
  • The choice between performance and all-terrain tires
  • Rear Spoiler

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Safety

8.0/10

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is expected to offer Level 2 self-driving capability but would be held off till the end of the year, as in the case of the three-row sibling. Besides that, the 2022 Grand Cherokee will have all the previous safety and driver assistance features. An optional ProTech I package provides Blind-spot monitoring, Rear cross-traffic protection, and a Rear parking camera with parking assist. The ProTech II provides Forward collision mitigation, Active brake assist, and Lane departure warning.

The Advance Protech II provides additional safety with Adaptive cruise control, Perpendicular parking assist, and rain-sensing windshield wipers. The SUV fits 7-airbags as standard. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will also carry over the robust and rock-solid chassis as the current model year. The safety ratings of the 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee are great, but also marginal in some aspects. The NHTSA has not rated the SUV for 2021, but the IIHS has rated it with an average score.

Notable safety features offered in the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee:

  • Electronic Brake Assist
  • Electronic Stability Control
  • Blind Spot Monitoring and Collision avoidance
  • Lane Departure Warning and Lane Keep Assist
  • Traction Control

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Competition

6.0/10

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2021 Kia Telluride

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee and the 2022 Kia Telluride are quite dissimilar in their purpose. The latter offers a premium cabin with more seating capacity than the Grand Cherokee. The new, refreshed Jeep would definitely be modish and appeal more to the buyers. The Jeep SUV is more capable on rugged terrains as well and boasts great on-road manners, while Kia Telluride has never been the headline for off-roading capabilities. The Telluride is a better pick in terms of features and interior design.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee vs 2021 GMC Acadia

The 2022 GMC Acadia feels underwhelming in comparison to the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee. With a lethargic and feeble engine, it lacks performance or engaging driving dynamics. The ground clearance of the Acadia is quite less and you’d be more likely to scratch the bottom of the vehicle. Feature-wise, the GMC Acadia is slightly better as compared to the 2022 Grand Cherokee, but the upcoming updates should make the latter more appealing too.

2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Final Verdict

The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee will receive a much-awaited refresh. The new design is expected to resemble the bigger three-row Grand Wagoneer. The interiors are expected to be more upscale and prominent, but there are no additions to the infotainment. In terms of safety, the Jeep Grand Cherokee is slightly disappointing as much of the essential features are additional upgrades. However, with Jeep not yet revealing the full list of updates to the 2022 model, it is unclear if the new Grand Cherokee will be able to outpace its very well equipped rivals.
