The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is an SUV that comes equipped with unprecedented power and performance. It comes equipped with a 6.2L supercharged V8 engine that generates as much as 707 HP and 645 lb-ft of torque. It is price slightly above $88,000 and delivers value worth every penny.

However, do keep in mind that with such a heavy engine under its hood the fuel economy of this machine is not only disappointing but financially painful. it offers tough competition to rivals such as the 2020 BMW X5 M50i, the 2020 Jaguar F Pace SVR, and the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

Expert Review, Pricing Analysis and Buying Guide

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk comes equipped with a single trim to offer and is priced at $88,895. It hosts a 6.2-liter supercharged V8 engine that is extremely capable and is paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission that enhances performance. With class-leading acceleration on offer along with the best in class brake performance, this SUV has the perfect specs for its category and price.

With significant interiors to offer in terms of dimension and features, it fails to deliver in terms of fuel economy. It further offers enticing dimensions and looks on the outside but it faces tough competition from the 2020 BMW X5, 2020 Jaguar F-Pace SVR, and The 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport.

"Blazingly quick, intimidating stance and exhaust note, still a practical Jeep SUV." - Car and Driver

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk only comes in one trim, priced at $88,895. Seeing how Jeep focussed more on its performance, the Trackhawk comes with a supercharged V8 engine, enhanced Brembo brakes, performance tires, and an adaptive suspension system. But that doesn't mean there will be a shortage of luxury features.

Inside you will find heated and ventilated front seats which are power-adjustable, power tilt, and telescopic steering wheel, premium quality leather interior, heated leather steering wheel, valet function, remote keyless entry, voice-activated dual-zone front automatic air conditioning, illuminated locking glove box, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.

Which Trim should you buy?

Trackhawk is the one and only trim which limits the options. But then again it was made in such a way that it stays unique. So paying $88,895 easily justifies its insane performance which can easily dust other SUVs with price tags much higher than the Jeep. We also mentioned above how despite being powerful, it is still a Grand Cherokee from the inside so you get welcomed with a decent level of luxury and quality. Power adjustable seats which are heated and ventilated, voice-activated dual-zone climate control, power tilt and telescopic steering wheel, panoramic sunroof, and many other features are available to put a smile on your face. Even the list of tech and safety features is pretty good.

Engine specs of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

The 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is powered by an insane 6.2 Litre Supercharged V8 engine sourced from Dodge. It produces 707 horsepower and a torque of 645 lb-ft. The power is sent to the four wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission which is buttery smooth and feels very telepathic on the road.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk SUV driving view

As for the Hellcat engine, it just decimates everything on the road by reaching 60 mph from a standstill in 3.5 seconds and can finish a quarter-mile in 11.6 seconds. Despite being insanely fast, it offers smooth control over the vehicle so you can drive it slowly and still have a smile on your face. On top of that, the whole configuration makes such beautiful sounds that are no less than music to the ears. You can even take it to the track if you want.

The Hellcat engine of Grand Cherokee Trackhawk makes it one of a kind and probably one of the best SUVs on the road. While it is a powerful option in the lot, the SuperCharged engine of the 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport produces the lowest power and torque output of 518hp and 461lb.-ft and its underpowered nature is evident in its performance.

Acceleration of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

Equipped with a humongous engine it is obvious that the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has a blast of acceleration to offer. It records an unbelievable 0-60 mph in just 3.5 seconds, undoubtedly the best in class. It further records a quarter-mile in just 11.6 seconds, along with a top speed of 180 mph.

On the other hand, despite it producing almost 150 lesser horses of power, both the Jaguar F-Pace SVR and BMW X5 M50i feel precise and to the point, taking 3.7 and 4.1 seconds to the 60mph mark, respectively. The Land Rover ranks last, just as expected, clocking the 0-60 mph in 5.1 seconds.

How well does the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk handle?

Sure it is fast when it comes to going straight, but do not underestimate it while taking to the knife-edge corners as it performs admirably. Yes, the steering feels light under most situations and offers decent feedback from the road. So tackling corners is not going to be a problem.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

As for the suspension system, Jeep has loaded Trackhawk with an adaptive suspension system which we must say is one of the best you will find in this segment. It just eliminates small to large bumps effortlessly and do not forget that this is a jeep we are talking about so tackling rough terrain is in its blood. This is why we think both purists and laid-back drivers are going to love it as you can drive it gently or abuse it, and the Trackhawk will deliver without breaking a sweat.

Braking Performance of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

Having such a powerful engine under the hood makes it necessary to have a competent braking system. On top of that, it weighs 5,363 pounds so the question arises about how efficient is the braking system? Luckily this is a jeep we are talking about so not only does it come with a proper braking system that is efficient enough to keep the vehicle under control. But Trackhawk exclusively comes with 15.8 inches front and 13.8 inches rear Brembo brakes and yes all four disc brakes are ventilated. The system is further paired with various braking assists to offer maximum control over the vehicle. Sure, going over rough terrains is not going to be a problem but what makes it better than everything else on the market is that you can even take it to the track and it will perform impressively.

The Brembo brakes with performance tires make a great combination which makes it stop from 60-0 in a short distance of 112 feet. When compared to its rivals, the braking system of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is far superior to the others as despite being heavy, it manages to stop the vehicle within a short distance. The Jaguar F-Pace SVR takes second place here but also is the lightest of all four SUVs and has extremely large front and rear rotors that measure 15.6 inches, each. The 2020 X5 M50i takes the longest, covering 120ft before coming to a standstill, while the performance potential of the Land Rover is not yet known.

Fuel Economy
4.0/10

"Its insatiable thirst for fuel is made obvious by its low EPA estimates and unspectacular results in our real-world testing" - Car and Driver

Everybody knows how having a powerful engine usually leads to bad fuel economy and the situation with the Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is no different. The Supercharged V8 engine manages to offer a mileage of 11 mpg in the city, 17 mpg on the highway, and 13 mpg when combined. These numbers are abysmal but then again who would buy a Trackhawk for mileage? Regardless, to compensate for poor mileage Jeep offers a 24.6 gallons fuel tank which manages to bring an acceptable driving range varying from 270.6 to 418.2 miles. All this makes it a decent SUV for daily usage. However, for long route trips, you will have to stop more frequently for refueling. This is going to be a problem especially if you are with your family and are in a hurry.

The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk offers such poor mileage that if you compare it to its rivals, it falls behind all the others. Its 24.6 gallons fuel tank is surely bigger than what Jaguar F-Pace and BMW X5 M50i offer but still at the end of the day, the driving range which it offers is mediocre. The Land Rover Range Rover Sport gains ascendancy over all its competitors by averaging 19 MPG, which when combined with its large fuel tank of 27.6-gallons, allows it to cover a total range of 524 miles.

Interior
7.5/10

"If the Trackhawk's extroverted exterior wasn't proof enough, its racy interior further proves that this Jeep prefers racetracks and twisty roads to rocky trails." - Car and Driver

As powerful as it is on the road, the inside of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is equally impressive. Get inside the cabin via wide doors and a beautiful interior design with two-tone color grading welcomes you. The leather interior offers premium quality with everything nicely covered. As for the dashboard, a wide slab with vents highlighted with metallic accents and an eye-catching gauge cluster are the highlights. The leather-wrapped steering wheel is power tilt and telescopic which offers a good range. Features such as voice-activated dual-zone automatic climate control, panoramic sunroof, and auto-dimming rearview mirror are available.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk SUV front seats

As for the passengers, 12-way power-adjustable front seats are available, and yes these are heated and ventilated. For the rear a 60/40 split-folding bench with manual reclining is available. Both front and second-row seats come with premium quality material and offer ample room for the occupants with a maximum level of comfort. For cargo capacity, the 36.3 cubic feet of cargo volume is one of the biggest in its class and yes, it can tow up to 7200 pounds of load.

The Grand Cherokee Trackhawk offers a spacious cabin which when compared to its rivals is somewhat bigger than the others. As for the front-seat comfort, the Trackhawk surpasses both Jaguar F-Pace and BMW X5 M50i but stays behind the 2020 Range Rover Sport. However, the Land Rover falls short in terms of cargo space, while the 2020 F-Pace SVR and X5 M50i have larger boots. Below are some of the key interior features:

  • Voice Activated Multi-zone auto climate control
  • Illuminated locking glove box
  • Day and night auto-dimming rearview mirror
  • 12-way power-adjustable front seats
  • Two-tone black grey premium leather interior

What’s there to keep you entertained in the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

The infotainment system of the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is powered by Uconnect 4C which hosts a responsive 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen. The UI is smooth but feels old. Fortunately to bypass that, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is available. Other features such as auxiliary audio input jack, Uconnect external memory control, SiriusXM, navigation system, and GPS antenna input are available. Multiple USB ports for both rows, three 12 volt DC power outlets, one 120 volt AC power outlet, and a 4G LTE Wifi hotspot are also available.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk SUV infotainment screen

The voice command system with Bluetooth is surprisingly good and rarely makes any mistakes. However, the 10-speaker sound system with a 506-watt amplifier sounds decent at best. Unfortunately, there is no upgrade available for that. Below are some of its key infotainment features:

  • 8.4-inch infotainment touchscreen
  •  Uconnect 4C with navigation system
  • Apple CarPlay support
  • Android Auto support
  • 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot

Exterior dimensions of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

If compared visually to the normal Grand Cherokee, you are not going to find any differences. So it is tough to notice if it is a normal Jeep or Trackhawk. Unless you open the hood and check out the beast inside. But then again it already looked amazing. So in the front, you get bi-xenon headlamps surrounding the traditional multi-slot jeep grille. Below, in the middle of the front bumper, you will find the radar sensor which is surely going to catch your attention.

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk SUV

On the sides, instead of chrome, most parts are blacked out. On top, you will find a sunroof which is standard. Lastly in the rear, LED brake lights with a lip spoiler on top look great. The all-new 20-inch black satin aluminum wheels certainly add more sporty character to it.

When compared to the competition, Grand Cherokee Trackhawk is certainly heavier than the others but its dimensions are somewhat similar. However, the 8.1 inches of ground clearance it offers is a bit lower than the others. While the BMW X5 is the longest and sports the best-in-class wheelbase of 117.1 inches, the 2020 Range Rover Sport is the tallest and has a clearance from the ground of 8.7 inches. The Jaguar F-Pace SVR is the lightest with a curb weight of 4,395 lbs, which does aid performance.

Safety ratings of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

When it comes to safety, the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk might not have been crash-tested by the NHTSA or IIHS. But its sibling received good ratings. Jeep has also loaded the Trackhawk with a decent list of features. Other than multiple airbags and a standard traction control system, the Trackhawk offers a forward-collision warning system, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go technology, and an automatic emergency braking system amongst other features. Moreover, a Parkview backup camera is also available which offers a clear image.

Safety features of the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk

All the aforementioned functions are reliable and work as intended, however, adaptive cruise control doesn't work below 20 mph. So one will have to get used to that. All in all, Trackhawk comes with a decent set of safety features that somehow justify its price tag. Below are some of its key safety features:

  • Blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert
  • Lane departure warning system
  • Forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking
  • Lane-keeping assist
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System
  • Anti-theft alarm system
Competition

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk vs 2020 Jaguar F-Pace SVR

When stacked against Jaguar F-Pace SVR, Grand Cherokee Trackhawk comes out as faster on the road. It also offers more room for occupants and cargo and yes better braking power. The F-Pace on the other hand offers better fuel economy, better technology, and a cabin that comes with a higher level of luxury. Amongst the two, it’s a clear trade-off between performance and opulence and if you prioritize the former, the Jeep will make for a better choice.

2020 Jaguar F-Pace SVR

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk vs 2020 BMW X5 M50i

Going against BMW X5 M50i gets easier for Grand Cherokee Trackhawk as it is much faster and offers better control over the vehicle thanks to its efficient braking system. Even the cabin and cargo volume it offers is better than what X5 comes with. The BMW, on the other hand, offers better fuel economy making it more suitable for daily usage. The German SUV also has a long list of features, just as expected, but the practicality of the Jeep Grand Cherokee is also unwavering and it definitely ranks higher in our list.

2020 BMW X5 M50i

2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk vs 2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Perhaps, the comparison between the Land Rover Range Rover Sport and the Jeep Grand Cherokee is the easiest to judge. While the former leads with its fuel economy and a larger fuel tank that allows for a higher range, the Jeep is the better choice in all other aspects. You get a finely crafted cabin in an otherwise performance-oriented vehicle. Passenger and cargo space is ample and with a comprehensive set of infotainment and safety features, the Jeep does gain ascendancy over the LR.

2020 Land Rover Range Rover Sport

Final Verdict

The Trackhawk clearly is Jeep’s trump card as it decimates vehicles in the market by its mind-blowing performance on the road. The driving experience you get from this is unparalleled for its segment. Even the spacious cabin offers a decent level of comfort and never feels boring. Jeep also managed to load enough technology to keep it relevant for years to come. So if you are willing to choose incredible performance over poor fuel economy then yes, we think you should definitely consider the 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk.
