The 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer comes in as a spanking new full-size balls-out Luxury SUV from the house of Jeep built on top of what essentially is the RAM pickup truck underneath. Even though we were impressed by how the overall performance, packaging, and pricing have come out in our short review, the owners seem to be far from being satisfied with how the actual experience has turned out to be.

As with any other vehicle at launch, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer has been caught in the loop with its fair share of niggles that has been affecting owners throughout the states. This SUV has been squarely aimed at taking the likes of the 2022 Cadillac Escalade and 2022 Lincoln Navigator, with base MSRPs on one starting from around $88,640. Does the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer have what it takes to go against these established behemoths? Well, that is something that needs to be proven in time as current odds do not seem to be working in its favor.

2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer User Complaints and Problems

Even though there has been only one officially recognized complaint on the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer by the NHTSA, the unofficial SUV forums have a different story to tell. The new Jeep Grand Wagoneer is riddled with problems and customers have been having a tough time getting things fixed or replaced with the colossal backorder the automaker has in place for the vehicle. This brand new full-size SUVis said to be affected by software/ technical glitches from the factory and many of these issues are turning out to be intrusive to the comfort/convenience factor this SUV boasts with some even detrimental to occupant safety as per owners.

Listed below are the most common problems of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer and their implications on the ownership experience.

Mechanical Complaints

  • Transmission/ AWD system issue- The only recognized issue on the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer by the NHTSA. Owners have complained about the vehicle shifting itself into 4-LO mode while on the drive. A “4WD Error” message is also a pretty common problem found with this system. This issue has a high risk of a crash as engaging 4-LO while on the move compromises the stability of the vehicle. Resetting the drive control module software was found as a temporary solution to this as no official software update for this problem has been released by the automaker. No crashes or injuries have been reported against this complaint.

Electric System Complaints

  • Infotainment- As complained by many owners in the forums, the Android Auto/ Apple Carplay connectivity features in the UConnect system of the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer are prone to glitches and drops connectivity multiple times when paired wirelessly. Unresponsive touchscreen, random screen reboots, static lines on the screen, and partly blank screens are also common issues that have been brought up by owners, which in most cases needed a screen replacement.
  • Seat heating functions- The touch capacitive buttons for the front seat heater are said to be unresponsive at times. The underlying software which controls these functionalities is also said to be buggy as it overheats the seats in some cases while in others, it turns itself off before the seats reach the desired temperatures. Most SUVs with these issues are said to be delivered with this complaint off the line.

Structural Complaints

  • Windshield- Multiple owners have complained about the distortions on the center of the windshield on the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer. This has been said to obstruct vision and throw your vision off the road increasing the risk of a crash. Also, the replacement windshield received still has the issues persisting, as per the owners. No official statements have been released on this issue yet.
  • Rear-end noises- At least 4 owners have noticed low-pitch groaning noises and slight vibration from the rear end on the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer while making U-Turns. The source of this noise is unclear and no further information is available on this issue.

Even though NHTSA records only one complaint against the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer, the actual number is relatively high. Given the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer is loosely based on the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer, which invariably has clocked in more complaints, we expect the more complex and tech-loaded Grand Wagoneer to stack in more registered complaints with time. The table depicts only the number of official complaints lodged on NHTSA, so the data shown should be taken with a grain of salt.

 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer Recalls

The2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer already has 3 factory recalls on its name as per the NHTSA. All three issues are related to compromise in passenger safety one way or another and are identical to what we have seen with its lesser twin, the 2022 Jeep Wagoneer. Having seen many other new launches from Jeep in the past, we shouldn’t be surprised to see more recalls reinstated by the automaker in the near future given the enormous number of complaints piling up from the customer end.

Compared to the main competitors, the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer does not sit in a good position when it comes to recalls. Both the closest competition, the 2022 Cadillac Escalade, and the 2022 Lincoln Navigator have no recalls on their names to this day as per the NHTSA. Before concluding, we would like to mention that both the competing SUVs have been in their latest generation for quite a while now and have received time to sort issues out. So comparing their current performance status to the brand new Jeep Grand Wagoneer wouldn’t come out all that fair in our books.

Which Jeep Grand Wagoneer model year should you avoid?

You are limited with options here when it comes to the 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer as it is a brand new introduction for this model year.

Should you buy a used Jeep Grand Wagoneer?

Used 2022 Jeep Grand Wagoneer with mileages as low as 1015-miles have started up popping on websites and dealerships for sale. Even though we think that this full-size SUV is worthy of the money it commands, the sheer number of complaints and recalls it has piled up in a short period makes us refrain from recommending it to prospective buyers. Being a brand new model for this year, the automaker is still facing backorder issues on spares and most of the complaints mentioned haven’t been approached officially. So it would be safer to wait it out before putting down over $100,000 on this full-size SUV.
