The Jeep Renegade is the smallest SUV in Jeep’s lineup but the Renegade doesn’t wants people to get fooled with its size. The 2020 Jeep Renegade, draws inspiration from its other bigger sibling, The Wrangler and Cherokee. The Renegade packs in a typical Jeep design on the outside with its 7 slot grille being the most noticeable element of the lot.
Other than this, the Renegade has some cool modern touches like LED Headlights and Taillights, upmarket Infotainment system with 4G connectivity and a lot more. For the off-roading part, Jeep has supplied the Renegade with skid plates for the underbody and near the front fascia and a lot more. Buyers can also fiddle around with the 2 Engine options-a 1.3L Turbo Petrol and the 2.4L Naturally Aspirated motor.

2020 Jeep Renegade Engine and Performance
7.0/10
"If you're looking for an affordable compact SUV that doesn't just look rugged and ready for action but actually is, you'll like the 2020 Jeep Renegade.." Kelley Blue Book
Engine and Transmission
Jeep has revamped its engine line up for 2020 for the renegade and has introduced a new unit as well. The base 2.4L Tigershark Multiair 2 Engine, standard on the Sport and the Latitude trims, makes about 180hp and 175lbs.-ft. of Torque. The New 1.3L Multi Jet Turbo Motor with Direct Injection motor delivers 177hp and 210lbs.-ft. of torque and replaces the old 1.4L Multi Jet motor. The Engine is available as Standard from the Trailhawk trim onwards and comes as an option in the lower trims.
The New 1.3L Motor, despite being smaller in displacement than the motor it replaces, still belts out a lot more power than the same and has better responses to Throttle Inputs. Jeep has also standardized the 9 Speed Automatic on all trims and users can no longer have a manual transmission, even as an option. The Turbo Motor comes standard with Start/Stop Technology that aids the efficiency of the Motor on the whole.

When placed against the rivals, the Jeep manages to outshine the competition in terms of power and performance figures by a big margin. What is disappointing is the fact that the transmission in the Jeep in 2020 is not the most-slick shifting unit and can be clumsy and noisy while shifting gears.
Acceleration
The Jeep Renegade performs as well as the other cars in the segment in terms of the 0-60 runs. Things, however, become a bit less favorable for the Jeep, as it is the slowest to do the quarter-mile dash. In terms of daily driving however, the Multiair motor never runs out of breath for making the odd overtaking move on the city and on the highway.

Talking competition, the Mazda CX-3 manages to run rings around the competitors in the 0-60 timings and the quarter-mile dash as well. The Ford and the Honda match each other in the quarter-mile dash but the Honda manages to beat the Ford in the 0-60 sprint.
Braking
The 2020 Renegade comes with Active Braking (advanced brake assist that increases the brake pressure if the driver is not braking enough). Brake pedals feel firm and it stops from 60-0 in 126 feet, which is average for the class.

Speaking of rivals, it's the Mazda CX-3 that again trumps over the others with its braking performance. The compact Ford Ecosport is the second best after the Mazda, courtesy of its potent brakes while the Honda and the Jeep are separated by the smallest of margins.
Ride and Handling
You will be as happy to drive the Renegade on the city roads as well as on the rocky terrains, thanks to its relaxed and composed handling. It does not lean on sides while cornering and feels agile. When it comes to the trims, the Latitude offers sharper and a more engaging drive than the Trailhawk. The steering wheel on the Renegade feels just rightly weighted and presents the driver with a decent amount of feedback. The steering wheel feels really connected to the driving wheels and feels precise the majority of times.
On a daily driving basis, the Jeep won't disappoint as well courtesy of its very capable driving manners and a good composure on road. The Body roll is well contained at City speeds and the compact proportions add to the maneuverability of the SUV in the city. Elevate to the Trailhawk trim and the ride's Off-Roading capabilities simply escalate to an all-new level. The potent AWD setup seals the case ensuring that the ride doesn't disappoint on those tough terrains.
Towing Capacity
The Jeep Renegade manages to weigh in its off-road credentials in the towing capacity as well. The Jeep Renegade can tug up to 2,000 pounds and doesn't lose breathe in towing the same. This towing capacity can be used for hauling small boats, trailers, and snowmobiles.

The Mazda CX-3 has the dynamic edge over the rest of its rivals but in terms of towing capacity, it fails miserably and comes up with the least figures here. The Ford and the Honda come toe to toe in this aspect but still fall short of the Jeep's mighty 2000lbs capacity.
2020 Jeep Renegade Fuel Economy
The Jeep Renegade offers decent performance for the kind of engines it comes with. However, it compromises on the MPG figures while achieving the same. The base Renegade with 2.4L 4-cylinder inline has an EPA rating of 24 mpg in the city, 31 on the highways and 26 combined with both front and all-wheel drive. While the 1.3-liter turbo-4 offers 21/29/24 mpg with AWD and 22/30/25 mpg with front-wheel drive.

Speaking of rivals, the Mazda CX-3 again manages to trump over the competition by a distant margin and keeps its head above the others. The Ford, on the other hand, manages to surprise us by pulling off a decent combined MPG figure when compared to others in the segment.
2020 Jeep Renegade Interior
8.5/10
"It might look rugged on the outside, but on the inside, the Renegade is comfortable and well-trimmed. Although a bare-bones Sport does without air-conditioning and cruise control, most Renegades come pretty well equipped and have soft-touch materials for the dash and armrests." Edmunds
Seating and Comfort
Inside, the Renegade is not as impressive as others in the segment. Material quality is average with hard plastics although once you are inside the lovely texture and color choices on dashboard brighten things up. For a small car, it has plenty of space inside with enough headroom for taller folks although they might find the legroom a bit tight. The interior layout of the Renegade comes out as a sensible one with plenty of intelligent storage spaces. The newly available mesh seating option makes things a bit more interesting.

The cabin cuts you completely from the engine noise but wind noise is an issue considering its boxy shape. Latitude trim soaks up bumps better than the Trailhawk and offers a better ride quality. The driving position is comfortable and the upright windshield provides you with a broader view of the road ahead. The Renegade boasts comfy seats with a wide range of adjustments.

Exterior Features
There is some cool stuff to talk about when it comes to the exterior that the Renegade boasts. Like the X-featured in its taillight is derived from World War-II-era army jerrycans. The wheels have been squared-off giving it a more rugged look and the major difference between trims is that Sports models have flat black trim while the Limited model showcases a contrasting black roof. Top trim Trailhawk wears black wheels and a red toe hook.

2020 Jeep Renegade Competition
Jeep Renegade Vs Honda HR-V
The 2020 Honda HR-V comes with better rear-seat adjustments. It also boasts better mileage and has more cargo space than the Renegade. Apart from this, you get air conditioning, cruise control, stereo, anti-theft system, fog lights, and alloy wheels as standard on the Honda and not on the Renegade. However, with Jeep, you get a more rugged-looking SUV which appeals more to off-roaders. With a price difference of $1500 between the two, Honda with its features scores better.
Jeep Renegade Vs Mazda cx-3
It may not have the toughness of the Renegade but it definitely is a better SUV. Once inside the car, you would love its driving dynamics and sporty handling. It also scores better when it comes to fuel efficiency and its crash test results are best in the class. Mazda cx-3 also brags a more luxurious cabin than the Renegade. So, if you are in the market then do not forget to go and check out the Mazda cx-3. At the end of the day, the choice is yours.
Jeep Renegade Vs Ford EcoSport
Ford EcoSport is best suited to city driving rather than going off-roading in it. These two are completely different compact SUVs. Ford gives you better mileage and interior whereas, Renegade performs awesomely well while off-roading and is also a good city driver. It also has more space inside and comes at a lesser price than the Ford. Go for the Renegade, as it helps you in multi-tasking while with EcoSport you are limited to city and highway.
2020 Jeep Renegade Final Verdict
The 2020 Jeep Renegade is a good step from Jeep in providing its buyers, a small but immensely practical SUV. With a ton of modern features like a Touchscreen infotainment System with Apple Car Play and Android Auto, LED Headlights and Taillights, Dual-zone climate control and more, the Renegade packs a punch in terms of keeping in pace with the times. Couple it with the Jeep DNA and its rugged off-road ability and what you have in hand, is a perfect blend of a Compact SUV that can take you to the office daily with ease and satisfy your needs for that occasional adventure.
