The 2016 Jeep Renegade is a small and carlike subcompact crossover. This vehicle debuted last year and hence does not get any major changes for the year 2016. The Renegade is a very practical crossover and offers great driving with its precise and agile handling. The Renegade is one of the most feature-loaded subcompacts in the market today.

The 2016 Jeep Renegade is priced at $17,995 and is powered by a turbocharged 1.4L Inline-4 engine. This latest offering from Jeep faces a tough fight from the 2016 Honda HR-V, the 2016 Subaru Crosstrek, and the 2016 Mazda CX-3 for the crown in the crossover segment. Let’s see how it fares against its competitors.

7.0/10

The 2016 Jeep Renegade is available in four trim levels: Sport, Latitude, Limited, and Trailhawk. Pricing for the trims starts at $17,995 and goes up to $26,495 for the top trim. Standard features include 16-inch steel wheels, power windows, cloth upholstery, tilt-and-telescopic steering, and a four-speaker audio system. We recommend

We recommend the Latitude trim. With the Latitude trim, you get a better array of features over the Sport and a good capacity at handling bad roads. The 4WD version is the recommended one, with the optional safety package. If you want to get that extra push, it's better to go for the Trailhawk trim. Otherwise, the Latitude suits most.

2016 Jeep Renegade Engine and Performance

7.1/10

The 2016 Jeep Renegade comes with two engine options. The first is a 1.4-liter Inline-4 engine that puts out a power of 160 hp and a peak torque of 184 lb.-ft. This engine is paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The second engine is a 2.4-liter Inline-4 that produces a slightly higher power of 180 hp and peak torque of 175 lb-ft. This powerful engine is paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission by default. You can also equip your Renegade with a Trailer Tow package. This package when mated to a 2.4-liter engine and all-wheel drive we get a towing capacity of around 2000 pounds.

The 2016 Renegade handles exceptionally well. The drivetrain decides the kind of ride you get. On the FWD, the car’s suspension has been mounted slightly lower and makes the car more stable and sportier. This is complemented by its small proportions and its quick steering. The 4WD adds some body roll but never puts the Renegade off balance.

2016 Jeep Renegade Interior

7.5/10

The 2016 Jeep Renegade has ample space for the front seat travelers and provides a good view of the road despite its small size. The rear legroom can get slightly tight for tall passengers, but the headroom is generous. Cloth upholstery is standard while leather upholstery and heated seats are optional. The cabin feels truly upscale and a lot of it has to do with the way the dashboard has been designed using soft-touch plastics.

2016 Jeep Renegade Exterior

7.0/10

The best thing about the little Renegade SUV is that it retains the traits of a traditional Jeep while boasting modern aesthetics. On the front, we have an easily recognizable 7-slot vertical grille coupled with round headlights. Moving to the sides, we have a extremely old-school boxy design. The subtle lines flowing through the car, from hood to the tail, give the Jeep design a much-needed rejuvenation. Trailhawk, which is the off-road trim of Renegade comes with an impressive ground clearance of 8.7 inches.

2016 Jeep Renegade Final Verdict

The 2016 Jeep Renegade is a pleasant breath of fresh air for Jeep lovers. It has everything that you'd expect of a Jeep, while bringing the fresh latest designs to the table. The cabin is among the biggest assets of this car with impressive styling and capacity. However, we are wary of the reliability scores and fuel economy of the car isn't great either. When it comes to choosing a subcompact SUV for off-road capability, we are left with little choice other than the Jeep Renegade.
