Which Trim should you buy?

The latitude or limited trim are the ones that attract buyers as these offer a comfortable interior with an impressive infotainment system, unlike the base trim which is poorly equipped and also lacks standard safety features. The Trailhawk trim, priced at $27,795, is suitable for buyers looking for a performance-based off-road vehicle that comes equipped with additional features like skid plates, all-terrain tires, and a dedicated AWD system for a stress-free drive.

2019 Jeep Renegade Engine and Performance

7.1/10

The 2019 Jeep Renegade features a 2.4L four-cylinder as a base engine which delivers an engine output of 180 horsepower and 175 ft-lbs of torque. The optional engine available with the SUV is a 1.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder, offering a maximum output of 177 horsepower and 210 ft-lbs. Despite being smaller, the new optional engine provides more power and offers a better response to throttle inputs.

The SUV is available with FWD as a standard and AWD as an optional whereas the Trailhawk only comes with an AWD system. The jeep 4x4 system does an impressive job over any terrain offering impressive power. The SUV doesn’t have a manual gearbox anymore and now hosts a 9-speed automatic transmission as the only option. The base engine takes over 9.3 seconds for the 0-60 mph dash while the turbo engine shaves off only half a second.

The Renegade gets a 9-speed automatic transmission making it suitable for different kinds of road situations while its competitors are equipped with a 6-speed transmission, with the Honda HR-V featuring a CVT. As far as the competition is concerned the Renegade offers an impressive performance. However, the Ford Escape is the best performer out of the group. Although priced higher, it delivers better engine performance than its rivals.

How well does the 2019 Jeep Renegade handle?

The Renegade is a sub-compact SUV that offers an impressive ride and handling in any condition, be it rocky terrain or a city road. The 2019 Renegade comes with Selec-Terrain Traction Management System that efficiently manages the traction on different terrains to provide excellent all-weather performance with the four modes available.

The Trailhawk trim offers an amazing experience off-road with its dedicated AWD system and various off-road features like increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, and skid plates offering a powerful and agile driving experience. As far as city roads are concerned it rides pretty smoothly without any significant body roll, corners swiftly without leaning on sides, and in addition to that offers a really relaxed driving experience with its impressive driving dynamics.

2019 Jeep Renegade Braking Performance

The braking system in the Jeep Renegade comes with advanced brake assist which proves to be helpful during panic braking, if the driver isn’t applying the brakes hard enough, the system increases the brake pressure and stops the vehicle. The sub-compact SUV receives 12-inch brake rotors in the front and 11-inch brake rotors at the rear which helps the SUV shed its speed from 60-0 mph in just 126 feet. The Renegade also receives various standard features like Active braking, ABS, and traction control to aid its ineffective braking.

Even though the Renegade is equipped with bigger brake rotors than the Mazda, it is still lacking in terms of braking performance due to its heavier curb weight. Talking about the stopping distance, the 2019 Ford Escape outshines most of its competitors in the segment with a stopping distance of 112 feet in spite of its heavy nature. The Mazda CX-3 travels the farthest distance, while the HR-V has a decent braking distance.

2019 Jeep Renegade Fuel Economy

7.9/10

The 2019 Renegade enters the market claiming a better fuel efficiency than the outgoing model with up to 30 MPG on the highway and 25 MPG combined. The 2019 model receives a 1.3-liter turbo-4 and also includes automatic stop/start which improves its fuel economy to 32 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg of combined city and highway driving. The 4WD drivetrain reduces the fuel efficiency by just 1 mpg for both the engines, but the 12.7-gallon fuel tank is quite small as compared to its rivals and limits the driving range, thereby leading to frequent gas station trips.

In terms of fuel efficiency, the Renegade is outshined by almost all its rivals. The Mazda CX-3 offers 31 MPG of combined fuel economy, while the HR-V returns about 30 mpg. Only the Ford Escape has a lower fuel efficiency as compared to the Renegade. A smaller fuel tank and not-so-great fuel economy of the Renegade take a toll on its overall range which is the lowest in the segment while the Escape offers the largest gas tank here.

2019 Jeep Renegade Interior

7.5/10

While the dashboard design is modern, the Material quality of the interior featured in the Renegade is not something a lot of buyers will appreciate. It receives an impressive interior in terms of looks as the color and texture of the dashboard look impressive. Inside the cabin, there is plenty of space as expected from a Jeep. The front seats have spacious head and legroom and at the rear, the headroom is pretty spacious but the legroom feels a bit compromised.

The cabin offers impressive noise insulation from engine noise but the wind noise is still an issue. It gets a decent storage stash for cups, phones, and devices and in addition to that an adjustable cargo floor. The rear seats can be folded to create more cargo space. Features like heated steering wheel, heated front seats, power-adjustable driver's seat, and cloth upholstery offer additional comfort while driving.

2019 Jeep Renegade Vs 2019 Ford Escape

The Ford Escape is among the best-selling SUVs in the US market and is well known for offering high reliability to its buyers. Although the Ford beats the Renegade in terms of performance, the Jeep outshines the Ford in terms of in-cabin space and cargo space. However, the Escape is not just value for money but also boasts segment-leading capabilities and performance. Having said that, the Ford Escape may be a little expensive over the Renegade, but it proves to be a tough competition for the Jeep.

2019 Jeep RenegadeVs 2019 Mazda CX-3

The Mazda CX-3 is slowly becoming a popular choice in the segment and is offered as a capable, powerful, and comfortable SUV. The vehicle boasts high capabilities but could not surpass the Renegade in terms of performance. The Renegade boasts more power with an impressive braking system. While the Mazda CX-3 beats the Renegade in terms of fuel efficiency.

2019 Jeep Renegade Vs 2019 Honda HR-V

The Honda HR-V is known for its supreme reliability and premium cabin. It also boasts impressive power and torque output but it is the Renegade that outruns the Honda in this particular area. The Jeep outshines the Honda in terms of engine performance and in-cabin space, while the fuel economy of Honda is still better as compared to the Jeep. However, if someone is looking for a comfortable and fuel-efficient compact SUV, then the HR-V is the way to go, while people who crave off-road performance should consider the Renegade.

2019 Jeep Renegade Final Verdict

8.0/10

With the 2019 model upgrade the Jeep Renegade receives various new features that appeal to the buyers. With a decent ride quality, the handling is easy and attracts a lot of enthusiasts with its off-road capability. Its unconventional box-like exterior still gives off a Jeep vibe. Along with its attractive features and styling the small SUV does have some big drawbacks in terms of safety, scoring just average in various safety tests. This sub-compact SUV is an appropriate choice for urban use and for people hungry for some off-road adventure. The 2019 Jeep Renegade offers strong and versatile performance with loads of features on a budget most can afford.
