To further spice up the competition, the brand also introduced the Kia K5 GT sedan that comes with a more powerful engine, performance-tuned suspension, and aggressive exteriors. In addition to this it offers an extremely comfortable cabin with lots of space and a plethora of features.

2022 Kia K5 GT Release date

All official specifications of the 2022 Kia K5 GT are available on the official website along with the pricing details. So we think that it will be up for grabs soon, early next year.

Engine and Performance
6.0/10

The 2022 Kia K5 GT is equipped with a 2.5-L turbocharged inline four-cylinder gasoline engine, just like its outgoing model. The 2.5-L motor in the GT trim boasts supreme refinement levels while the power output is impressive too. What makes it a lucrative choice is the maximum power output of 290 hp while the peak torque output happens to be 311 lb-ft.

It is mated with a fast 8-speed wet-type DCT gearbox, making it a great car to drive. The low end however could have been better and the engine comes to life only after the turbo spools into action. The DCT is fast with the shifts and can be controlled via the steering-mounted paddles. It does a 0-60 mph sprint in 5.2 seconds and a quarter-mile drag can be done in about 14-seconds.

2022 Kia K5 GT 2.5L Turbo Engine

The Kia K5 is a family sedan and offers a great balance between ride and handling. The K5 GT trim on the other hand is claimed to be better when it comes to driving dynamics but the not so stiff chassis and comfort-oriented overall mechanical setup do tend to take a toll on the driving dynamics. While the hardcore driving enthusiasts may not like the way the K5 GT handles, others will definitely appreciate the car for its incredible highs speed stability and ease of driveability.

Despite the fact that the 2.5-L engine powering the K5 GT is not the most powerful or biggest in the segment, the car does manage to deliver one of the best performance run timings in the segment. The Avalon and Maxima are equipped with larger engines but lose out to Korean twins in terms of acceleration by a small margin.

Fuel Economy
6.0/10

The 2022 Kia K5 GT is expected to deliver a maximum city fuel economy of 24 mpg while the highway economy could be around 32 mpg. The combined claimed fuel economy stands at 27 mpg. The car will deliver almost similar fuel economy figures as the 2021 model in real-life conditions, hence it is definitely a good choice for those looking for a comfortable and fuel-efficient sedan with impressive performance.

While the overall fuel economy delivered by the Kia K5 GT is impressive, we would have definitely appreciated a slightly bigger fuel tank. The Maxima and Avalon are less fuel-efficient than their rivals. The Maxima delivers the least fuel efficiency but owing to a larger fuel tank capacity, it offers a better range than the competition. The Sonata follows it with the second-best range and a larger fuel tank than its sibling.

Interior
8.0/10

Kia has always been known to offer well-laid-out interiors that not only boast impressive build quality and finish levels but also offer sorted ergonomics and a practical layout. The 2022 Kia K5 GT is no different and comes with an attractive dashboard design and a large center console. The steering wheel is nice and chunky to hold while the leather wrap on it is definitely very premium and is of great quality. The electrically adjustable driver seat at the front offers great support and has decent cushioning. Although better under-thigh support would have been great. Likewise, the rear seat bench is comfortable and spacious.

2022 Kia K5 GT Dashboard

The sloping roofline however not only takes a toll on the rear visibility but also makes it difficult to move in and out of the car for the rear passengers. On the features front, it comes with all the features that one would expect at this price point. To name a few, the K5 GT gets dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, ambient lighting, aluminum pedals, paddle shifters, rear air vents, wireless phone charge, SynTex trimmed upholstery, heated and ventilated front seats, a D-shaped sport steering wheel, and some more.

The Kia K5 GT offers a spacious and comfortable cabin which helps it attain an edge over its rivals when it comes to in-cabin experience. The Avalon offers much better rear-seat legroom than its competitors, followed by K5 GT, Sonata, and Maxima. The Maxima comes with the least cargo capacity and is less practical than all. Other cars in the comparison come with similar cargo capacities. Some of the key interior features are mentioned below:

  • 10-way power-adjustable seats for driver
  • Leather-wrapped sport steering wheel
  • Heated and ventilated front seats
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Memory Feature for driver seat and exterior mirrors
  • Sports front seats
  • Paddle Shifters
  • Wireless charging
  • Ambient lighting

What’s there to keep you entertained?

As standard, the 2022 K5 GT is equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen system. This system is not just user-friendly but is loaded with features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, UVO telematics, and voice recognition. The audio setup comprises a 12-speaker sound system from Bose. The audio quality is great and the audiophiles amongst us will definitely like the quality of the sound.

2022 Kia K5 GT Infotainment System

The user interface is easy to use but can be laggy in some instances. The good thing is that it also supports navigation and SiriusXM satellite radio as well. Having said this, the infotainment system on offer is still one of the best in the segment. Some of the key infotainment features of the 2022 K5 GT are:

  • 12-speaker Bose Sound system
  • 10.25-inch touch screen
  • UVO Telematics
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Voice Recognition
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • Navigation support
Exterior
7.0/10

While the Kia K5 is a handsome and attractive-looking car, the K5 GT further takes the game ahead, all thanks to the aggressive exterior elements and sporty styling. The GT trim gets a GT body styling kit which makes all the difference. The car boasts a striking road presence and the sleek LED headlamps give it a very dominating look.

2022 Kia K5 GT Three Quarter View

The DRLs are bright and the GT-inspired tiger-nose grille in the center takes all the attention. Having said this, the 2022 Kia K5 GT looks very aggressive from the sides with a sloping roofline and the alloy wheels complement the overall design of the car. The rear is dominated by large LED taillights that are joined together with a LED strip in the center.

The dimensions of the K5 GT are at par with the segment standards but the car does offer a strong road presence and an extremely aggressive styling. The Sonata being its sibling shares similar dimensions with the K5. The K5 GT sits on a longer wheelbase just second to the Avalon. A longer wheelbase offers higher stability on highways. All the cars in the competition come with the same ground clearance and we expect the K5 GT to have similar ground clearance. Some of the exterior highlights of the 2022 K5 GT are:

  • GT body styling
  • 19 Inch dual cut alloy wheels
  • Full LED projector headlights
  • Panoramic sunroof
  • LED fog lamps
  • Rear spoiler
  • Solar control glass
  • Quad tip dual exhaust
  • Automatic light control
Safety
7.0/10

The 2022 Kia K5 GT scored a five-star rating in the crash test conducted by NHTSA. While the 2021 model also scored good ratings in almost all the parameters in the tests conducted by IIHS. The organization also awarded the Kia K5 GT with the ‘Top Safety Pick Plus award’. We expect the 2022 model to be on the same line.

The K5 GT is not only a well-built car but also comes with a number of features that have helped it pass these crash tests with flying colors. The car comes equipped with the brand’s latest DriveWise tech which is a suite of advanced features like forward-collision avoidance alert, lane departure warning, lane keeps assist, highway driving assist, safe exit assist, etc are offered as a standard part of the package. Some of the standout safety features of the K5 GT are:

  • Forward collision-avoidance assist w/pedestrian detection
  • Driver attention warning w/lead vehicle departure alert
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Lane follow assist
  • High beam assist
  • Rear-view Monitor w/Dynamic Parking Guidance
  • Highway driving assist
  • Surround-view monitor
Competition
8.0/10

2022 Kia K5 GT vs Nissan Maxima

The Nissan Maxima comes loaded with a long list of features and a mighty 3.5L V-6 engine that makes it an attractive offering in the segment. The car also gets a spacious cabin while the build quality levels are impressive. However, it is the Kia K5 GT that offers better performance and a more premium in-cabin experience. The Kia K5 GT is also more fuel-efficient than the Maxima and comes with a long list of standard safety features which the Maxima cannot match. The K5 GT also offers better cargo capacity.

2022 Nissan Maxima Three Quarter View

2022 Kia K5 GT vs Toyota Avalon

Backed by the trusted after-sales support from Toyota, the Avalon is a strong competitor in the segment when it comes to reliability and in-cabin experience. The car however does tend to struggle in the performance and the features department. The K5 GT is definitely a better and more advanced package from Kia. It also offers a very good safety quotient and the safety ratings are a testimony to it. The Avalon offers better comfort and legroom for the rear seat passengers. The Avalon is also more expensive than the K5 GT when compared trim to trim.

2022 toyota Avalon Three Quarter View

2022 Kia K5 GT vs Hyundai Sonata N Line

The Hyundai Sonata N Line and the Kia K5 GT compete for neck-to-neck against each other as both of these cars offer an attractive exterior design, a well laid out and comfortable cabin, and equally powerful engines. The features on offer with both of the cars too are almost similar. However, it is the Sonata that looks slightly better than the K5 GT. It also offers slightly better performance and better range too, owing to a larger fuel tank. The Hyundai Sonata N-Line is more expensive than the Kia K5 GT.

2022 Hyundai Sonata N Line Three Quarter View
Final Verdict
7.0/10

The K5 GT is a great car for anyone who is looking to own a sedan that not only looks good but in addition to this, also offers impressive performance and a comfortable cabin. The 2022 Kia K5 GT also offers a long list of features, an affordable price tag, and a super-refined powertrain that works in its favor to help it have an edge over its rivals.

The car boasts aggressive and sporty styling while the long-term reliability is not a matter of concern. The cabin is spacious while the fit and finish levels make it a great car in the segment. However, for those who are still not convinced with the Kia K5 GT, cars like the Hyundai Sonata N Line are worth checking out.
