The Kia K5 is a mid-size sedan that was introduced last year as a replacement for the Kia Optima. After its launch, the Kia K5 gained steady popularity thanks to its premium interior, and loaded to the brim feature set along with good safety and reliability ratings. The 2022 K5 sits in a sweet spot between the smaller Forte and the larger Stinger.

2022 Kia K5 Dashboard

The mid-size sedan segment is competitive, so the 2022 K5 has several rivals. It goes against the likes of the Hyundai Sonata, Honda Accord, and Toyota Camry. The 2022 Kia K5 comes with Kia’s new badge along with brown upholstery, a 360-degree-view camera, and a larger 10.3-inch multimedia touchscreen as standard in the higher trims.

2022 Kia K5 Interior Design, Seating, Dimensions, and Comfort

The interior design of the newly launched Kia K5 reminds us of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class. However, the interior is covered in hard plastics as well unlike the Merc. The dashboard design is modern and the upper part is covered with stitched black leatherette.

The dashboard in the base trim is decorated with metal-look interior accents and has a black or sand lower door panel. The higher trims get wooden inserts along with a leatherette-trimmed lower dashboard and door panel. Also, a leather-wrapped steering wheel comes standard from LXS AWD.

2022 Kia K5 Front Seats

As standard, the 2022 Kia K5 offers seats for five people. The base trims get cloth upholstery either in black or sand. The higher trims get SynTex leatherette-trimmed seats as standard while the flagship GT model gets GT-embroidered seats. Speaking of seats, both the front and rear seats are very comfortable. The lower trims get manually adjustable front seats, while the higher trims offer power-adjustable, heated, and ventilated front seats. Also, the cabin is surprisingly quiet thanks to excellent sound insulation.

Inside the K5, the front-row headroom measures 40.2 inches, which is comparable to 40.0 inches in the Hyundai Sonata. K5's second-row headroom is 37.8 inches is slightly less than the Sonata's 38.4 inches. Legroom up front in both the siblings measures 46.1 inches. However, there's a bit more second-row legroom in the K5.

The 2022 Kia K5 gets the most legroom at the front but the rear row feels a bit cramped when compared to its rivals. The 2022 Hyundai Sonata offers the most spacious seats both at the front and the back while the cabin of the Toyota Camry, in our opinion, looks the best.

2022 Kia K5 Infotainment and Features

Kia has introduced some changes to the infotainment system this year. All the trims come equipped with a six-speaker audio system. The LX and LXS offer an 8-inch multimedia touchscreen while the higher trims will get you a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen display.

All the trims offer wireless Android Auto, wireless Apple CarPlay, SiriusXM, Bluetooth audio streaming, and HandsFree as standard. A wireless phone charger, navigation, and UVO link are available in the higher trims. Moreover, a JBL 12-speaker premium audio system is optional.

2022 Kia K5 Creature Comforts

The 2022 Kia K5 comes equipped with all the essential comfort and convenience features you expect from a modern mid-size sedan. The LX comes with a urethane-wrapped multifunction steering wheel, cloth-trimmed seats, manually adjustable front seats, a 4.2-inch color MID, a dual-zone automatic AC, and many others. The LXS adds a push-button start with a smart key, remote engine start, foldable rear seats, a smart trunk, and rear USB charging ports.

The AWD variant of the LXS gets a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The EX comes standard with a panoramic sunroof, ambient LED lighting, SynTex seats, a wireless phone charger, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, heated and ventilated front seats, and 2nd row AC vents. The GT Line adds a leather-wrapped D-shaped sport design steering wheel and sport bucket seats in the flagship GT. For further customization, Kia offers an EX Premium Package, a GT-Line Premium Package, and a GT1 Package.

2022 Kia K5 Trunk and Cargo Space

The 2022 Kia K5 offers a respectable cargo space at the back- 16 cubic feet. All models except the LX come standard with 60/40 folding rear bench seats, which can be folded for extra space. Hyundai Sonata also boast similar trunk space, with split-folding second-row seats allowing space for larger items on all but the base trim.

2022 Kia K5 Cargo Space

The standard cargo space can be used to store 4–5 medium-sized bags, and the rear cargo hatch is large enough to allow easy loading.

Both the Kia K5 and the Hyundai Sonata offer 16 cubic feet of standard cargo space, which is the second-best in the segment. The Honda Accord offers slightly more than the latter. On the other hand, the Toyota Camry is the least practical of the lot with the smallest cargo trunk.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

The interior of the 2022 Kia K5 gets a few secondary storage options. The front row gets a small cubby for storing mobile phones and other small items along with a pair of cup holders and a lockable glove box on the right. The rear row gets a pair of cup holders and seatback map pockets. Additionally, all the doors offer bins, and the seats offer some space underneath.

Verdict

The 2022 Kia K5 gets a great interior for the price. The interior is spacious, comfortable, stylish, and made of good-quality materials. You also get a respectable amount of standard cargo space at the back, which can be increased after you fold the rear seats. You also get a decent infotainment system. While the base trim offers sufficient features, we recommend you buy the EX trim and equip it with the Premium package.
