Don’t let the peculiar shape of the Kia Soul fool you, for it is a pretty classy vehicle with its own style. Yes, the weirdly shaped boxy styling does not mean that it is going to accentuate aesthetics, but it makes up for it by offering practicality and an array of impressive tech. 2022 Soul just comes with an inline-4 and may feel underpowered at times but it won’t be a bother if all you need is a vehicle to get from point A to B in comfort and with a ton of cargo.

2022 Kia Soul Dashboard

The 2022 Soul has been in the game for a long time and a recent redesign in 2020 made the weirdly-shaped wagon even more modern. The 2022 Kia Soul starts at a price tag of $20,505 and it competes against the likes of Hyundai Kona, Honda HR-V and Subaru Crosstrek.

2022 Kia Soul Wagon Interior Design, Dimensions, and Comfort

Looking at the boxy exterior design of the 2022 Soul might fool you into thinking that the interior might not be attractive and it must have weird edges. However, you would be wrong to assume so. The interior of the Soul is nothing like the exterior; the design and styling looks appealing and it also offers quality materials, even though it doesn’t cost you a fortune. The interior is simply an A+ for us, especially considering the price point. The base trim comes with woven and tricot cloth seat trim. You also get vinyl door trim, a full cloth headliner and urethane wrapped gear shifter. The X-Line will offer you black woven cloth upholstery, but the highest-end trim, the Turbo, comes with black SynTex synthetic leather and cloth combo. The interior makes use of hard plastic, but it is not inherently apparent. And we must also mention that the higher end trims come with sport heated leather steering wheel and leather gear shifter material.

2022 Kia Soul Rear Seats

The base trim comes with a 6-way manually adjustable driver’s seat, but the mid-level to higher trims upgrade to a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support. All the passenger seats are 4-way manually-adjustable. The seats are generally very comfortable and even though you get a manual tilt and telescoping column, you still won’t have an issue finding the perfect driving position. It has more interior space than its contemporaries; and in this regard, it is a champ. The boxiness of the Soul actually favors it. No adult should have any issue being seated at the back. And this is the kind of space that is generally not common at all in this segment.

Seating Capacity

Interior Passenger Volume (cubic feet)

Front Row (Head/Shoulder/Leg) (in)

Rear Row (Head/Shoulder/Leg) (in)

As it is clear, only the 2022 HR-V, which is often dubbed the “king of practicality” actually offers more space in the rear row than the Soul. The Kona and the Crosstrek simply don’t offer as much.

2022 Kia Soul Wagon Infotainment

The base trim of the 2022 Soul comes tacked with an 8” touchscreen display while all the other trims sport a 10.25” touchscreen display. The UI is decent and fair. For the price, it offers you mostly decent functionality. However, don’t expect it to be extremely smooth and intuitive. Also, the top trim is the only one that comes with a heads-up display as standard, and a digital instrument cluster.

2022 Kia Soul Infotainment System

The tech features are actually commendable, especially on all the trims barring the base trim. The base trim comes with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, Bluetooth, AM/FM radio, USB port, etc. However, the other trims build up on that by adding SiriusXM Satellite radio, HD radio, wireless phone charging, and also navigation. Music duties are handled by a 6-speaker sound system. However, the Turbo trim sports a Harman/Kardon sound system. The system is sure to boost your mood and lift up the ambience.

Key Infotainment Features

  • 10.25” touchscreen infotainment display
  • Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
  • Bluetooth
  • SiriusXM satellite radio
  • HD radio
  • Wireless phone charging
  • Navigation
  • Harman/Kardon sound system

2022 Kia Soul Wagon Cargo Capacity

Another aspect where the 2022 Soul shines is cargo capacity. The standard capacity behind the rear seats is 24.2 cubes, which would allow you to carry a ton of items at the back. Grocery shopping, bags and suitcases for trips, vacations, camping, and even some light furniture can fit in at the back.

2022 Kia Soul Cargo Space

Because the Soul has a high flat roof, it makes loading higher items easier. Fold down the rear seats in a 60/40-split and you will be presented with a total of 62.1 cubes of space, which would open up a bunch of possibilities for you to store items.

Maximum Cargo Capacity (cubic feet)

The 2022 Soul offers similar cargo capacity as the HR-V, which is quite a feat in itself. It also offers the maximum cargo capacity when the seats are folded down, which even beats the likes of the Honda HR-V. Truly impressive.

Additional Interior Storage Spaces

As standard, you have two cup holders at the front, with deep door pockets to store water bottles. The glove box is also sizable at the front and the center console storage is pretty good too. And you also get a holder for your sunglasses.

2022 Kia Soul Wagon Creature Comforts

The base trim of the 2022 Soul also comes with a decent array of standard creature comforts. Some of it includes remote keyless entry, multifunctional tilt and telescoping steering column, cruise control, dual-zone automatic climate control, wireless charging and more. However, the true comfort experience comes with the higher trims. They offer features such as heated leather steering wheel, dual-level cargo board, remote start, power-adjustable heated front seats, LED interior lighting and more. We think that the Soul comes pretty well equipped for the price.

If you are looking for a highly practical and spacious SUV/wagon, then the 2022 Kia Soul is an excellent choice alongside the Honda HR-V. The Korean SUV might have a weird shape and a boxy styling, but it translates to excellent interior room. The quality of the interior and the materials used are also quite commendable for the price; and so is the list of tech features on offer. Overall, the interior of the 2022 Soul is very impressive and we think you should definitely consider it.
